People die every day. Some of them are famous, some important, many newsworthy. This thread is for announcements of deaths in the news, discussions of the legacy of those recently deceased people, and memorials of same.
Please observe the usual rules about posting ettiquette and note that this is in On-Topic Conversations.
To start with, the last of the original Von Trapp Singers has died, Maria Von Trapp, 99, in Vermont. (This is the daughter of Captain Von Trapp, not her stepmother who was also named Maria. In the musical, they called her Louisa.) http://news.yahoo.com/maria-von-trapp-99-dies-vermont-005546425.html
2023 mod note:
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.
This doesn't mean that you can't discuss their life or legacy, or express an opinion as to whether they escaped justice for their actions. But if that starts to become a longer conversation, there are other OTC threads that may be more appropriate.

Celebrities are dropping dead left and right these days...
Sorry, I had to fire the last Grim Reaper. This new one is young and inexperienced. Please be patient with him.

"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"You actually thought you could fire me? How very...egotistical.
Rest in peace, Muhammed Ali. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee, wherever you are.

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)T_T RIP Muhammad Ali. You will always be the greatest boxer to those who grew up looking up to you.
RIP Ali, aka Cassius Clay, aka the man who knocked out Superman.
You'll always be the greatest.
One Strip! One Strip!RIP Muhammad Ali. This year is only just approaching the half-way mark and we've lost so many....
Final Fantasy, Foreign Policy, and Bollywood. Helluva combo, that...Anyone else genuinely find themselves surprised when Ali died? After lasting thirty years with Parkinson's it often seemed like he was going to last forever. Despite knowing how sick he was, I was honestly shocked to see the news.

Yes, personally i was surprised.
Watch me destroying my countryOh god, I just found out about Komodin's death...... I can't believe it. I use to see him around all the time on various Sonic websites and I even talked with him briefly on here too. I was not expecting to hear about that. Rest In Piece.
Another sportsman lost: hockey legend Gordie Howe passes at age 88. Quoth /r/canada:
He played 32 years of professional hockey.
He won 4 Stanley Cups.
He was married to his wife for 56 years before she passed in 2009.
He had four children, and got to play pro hockey on the same team as two of them for seven years.
I'd call that a goddamned life.
Didn't know her but nobody should die that young. Unbe-fucking-lievable.

I didn't know much about her, but it was tragic, truly. She had so many years ahead of her...
"Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life." ~ Omar KhayyamJesus, that's fucking horrible. I'd never heard her music, but that made me very, very sad...poor woman, RIP.
Well, this had to happen nearly two days before another shooting incident in Orlando, Florida: this time at the Orlando Pulse nightclub, where 50 people were shot dead by a gunman who then killed himself! So sad!
Michu Meszaros, the actor who wore a bodysuit to physically play the titular alien in ALF, has passed away at the age of 76.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)... Oh man, I remember the days I watched that show as a kid. I'll miss the guy, that's for sure.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Rumble Roses Character Designer Shiro Kotobuki Has Died
As someone who enjoyed the Rumble Roses games, i'm kinda sad.
However, i'm very impressed and didn't learn until now that the artist Kotobuki was paralyzed neck down and did all of his drawings using his mouth. RIP good sir.
... That is simply amazing.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Lester Haines, head of The Register's Special Project Bureau, best known either for making often-nsfw illustrations of major news stories using Playmobil, or for the several months he, with the Bureau, held the record for the highest amateur space flight of a paper aeroplane.
Dead of a heart attack at fifty five. He is due to be cremated and many fans are suggesting suitable projects to scatter his ashes in space.
As discussed in the British politics thread, MP Jo Cox has been assassinated. She was 41 and had kids aged 5 and 3. :(
Star Trek's Anton Yelchin been killed in a crash crash. He was 27.
