Not hard to be reference overdosed. I would dare say his writing is far more clever then the general contents of tvropes to boot.
Though I will concede there is a chance he has perused the site or even possibly drawn a few ideas from it.

I suspect that John Hodgman visits this Wiki. His books have the sort of Reference Overdosed eccentricity and wit common to TV Tropes. And he stated that Martin Van Buren is a Time Lord . John , I'm onto you .
