It's an alternate Earth, not an alternate timeline.
Yes, it certainly is not. But tell that to the fandom.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Wait, do people really headcanon Earth 2 and many of the other Earths as merely alternate timelines?
Not in the comics but for the Flash TV Series many think of it as an alternate timeline instead of an alternate Earth.
What they need to do is show that these characters in the main Earth are completely different in Earth 2.

Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre AdventureYeah, there needs to be an episode in season 2 featuring some of the Earth 2 counterparts of the Earth 1 Flash characters in the show.
Most of the characters probably won't have any direct counterparts, so they might get creative with it.
Barry's Earth 2 counterpart is Jay. Iris' counterpart is Joan Williams. Thawne's counterpart is probably Edward Clariss, but that's pretty much it for characters who have an exact counterpart between Jay and Barry's lives as far as I know.
I was thinking before that it'd be really fun if Ollie's "counterpart" was one of the other JSA characters, like Sandman.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Did anyone else get the feeling Lisa was talking about an entirely different type of gun?
What exactly is the difference between "alternate timeline" and "alternate universe", given the current theories of subatomic physics?
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Alternate timelines are generally the result of something specific going in a different direction, i.e. "What if Hitler became a painter?" or something to that effect.
An alternate universe, on the other hand, can be different without any sort of divergent point. Jay Garrick is the Flash because he became the Flash. That's it. There's no divergent point.
Still pretty much 100% not here for Cisco X Lisa, but it's looking like that's gonna be a Thing so I guess I'll try to learn to accept it.
(heh, fun fact, my new workplace is named for one Lisa Goldman, and it makes me giggle.)

So hopefully Metakitties will be up in the next 3-5 hours, and the nerf gun thing by tomorrow nightish. (two days off work! woot!)
Edit: metakitties is up.

Got a degree in Emotional trauma via fictional characters aka creative writing. hosting S'mores party in Hell for fellow (evil) writersEarth 2 has to be at least sort of an alternate timeline, at least if it's remotely like in the comics. Earth 1 and Earth 2 share almost identical history and geography; the differences only seem to crop up where superheroes and supervillains are concerned.
I'm thinking of it a bit like the worlds in Chrestomanci, since I know about as much as Jon Snow on the subject. Some people are the same/follow similar paths in the same worlds, some don't for reasons, but it's not that the two worlds split off from each other because of a divergent point/ pivotal moment in history. they've always been separate, or have been for a Very long time so that thinking of them as once the same doesn't really work.
is that it? or am I way off the mark?

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! It's Atom Smasher, who is usually a superhero but appears to be evil in this continuity.

Well, there was the time with the War Crimes and Coup'd'etat-ing and stomping on people.
"You can reply to this Message!"thanks! I've been planning that bit with Iris for weeks.
Got a degree in Emotional trauma via fictional characters aka creative writing. hosting S'mores party in Hell for fellow (evil) writersHonestly I'm declaring that scene better than canon.
~blush~ Thank you! I think it came out pretty good.
I was glad that Iris put it all together herself in canon instead of being told, but wish it had happened a bit sooner than it did. So I used kittens to fix that.

Trump delenda est
That was definitely an interesting trailer - it seems like they're going to be getting a lot of mileage out of extradimensional villains this season.
Also, I like that they seem to be emphasizing Earth 2 as another world rather than an alternate timeline.
