What happens if a non-happy memory gets into the core memory? Would that be something like a traumatic experience?
This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...Presumably. Sounds like a pretty good instigator for the plot, actually.
Oh God! Natural light! It would have to be something that helps develop who you are overall, that contributes to who you become. So yes, if a sad memory winds up in the core group, Riley could become a tiny bit depressed but she'd need to be that way for a long time.
.... In the trailer, we see Joy carrying around five memories when she's lost. ..... I think the core memories got lost with them, so they're no longer in the headquarters, and the other 3 emotions do a horrible job at trying to cover for Joy and Sadness's duties without them!
.... God f***!

That's what happens!
The Protomen enhanced my life.I still suspect the movie will be, at least in part, about Riley learning to appreciate her sad memories as well.
Puberty.
It's about puberty.
Maturity, I eventually realized, was about learning which things to take seriously (and which not.)
Logically, a story centering around puberty would deal with the arrival of Lust, but I don't think that's a can of worms Pixar and Disney would ever want to open. Expect a lot of fanfics on the subject in the future, though.
Yeah, you'd like that in fanfics.
My secret? Don't take anything seriously. Don't grow up. Stay a kid at heart forever and you'll never face an insurmountable problem.

A Spanish trailer I just saw provided more details on the movie at the second half of it, such as an elephant from Imagination Land (or Goofball Land), played by Richard Kind.
I really hope Riley's parents end up being less stereotypical than they look, because they really seem the weakest part of the movie so far. IOW, they are the only thing I'm not excited about.
Why are international trailers always better!?
Sorry to say this, but anything outside of her mind looks totally stereotypical. White, blonde preteen with problems. She has a nerdy-looking best friend with glasses. Nothing interesting.
As long as there's not a stereotypical gaggle of Alpha Bitch bullies I think I can cope with that.
You expect something interesting out of a 2-second shot of slurpee-drinking?
This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...No but I'm expecting something that isn't something I seen a ton of times before. Lasseter says Pixar will now try to write heroines who aren't white. I hope they get on that after this one!
Did he? I know he said something about a Polynesian princess movie, but I thought it was for the Disney Animated Canon.
Peace is the only battle worth waging. On it's own, Riley's half of the story probably is nothing new. But, the point of the movie is to see how it is affected by/affects the events going on within her "mental word". That's the story. Not every part of every story these days needs to break new ground. Inside Out strikes me as unique enough as it is; now to see if they make me *care* about the characters (including Riley.) I expect they will!
Technically speaking, this movie has non-white heroines. Yellow, blue and green to be exact.
Well yes, Lasseter was applying that to both Disney and Pixar.
Disney has a far better record than Pixar on the subject of multiple cultural portrayals. And don't bring out how Disney has a longer history, since they really started being multicultural only relatively recently themselves. Still trump Pixar in that regard, though.
@Sijo I would actually argue that the climax of Riley's journey is actually pretty daunting. Sure, it's not exactly like facing Dante's Inferno and welcoming death but it actually manages to pull on a few Adult Fear tropes.
Also according to the novelization, I'm pretty sure Lust would fall under the department of 'Abstract Concepts'

You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.
Yeah, her.
