Well, that's kind of what I expected. Usually if the plot ends, there's just an OVA left, and those are usually not released on the same schedule. Which is still better than nothing more at all.

One thing I've not mentioned is that I like how the romance side was handled, what little there were of it. First, it wasn't between the main guy and main girl (and that's not even going into the specifics of the characters). Second, the girl who did get involved with him was more important in other aspects of the plot. Third, it was neither tacked onto the plot for the sake of it, nor did it overshadow anything else of importance.

Do you think the ending is hinting at an actual continuation of the series or is it just a And the Adventure Continues type deal. Liked that Zvezda actually conquers Japan in the end.

[up]It was probably a little of both. I wouldn't be against a second season. It sounded amusing.

Seems to be an anime original series as far as I can tell. Feels kinda like a LN adaption however.

Very unique series. I can't think of anything that is particularity comparable.

Well, that was a thing. I don't regret watching it, but I don't think I'd ever recommend it, either

Zvezda is Anime First, but there are going to be manga and book follow-ups, so while the animated adventures of Zvezda are over, it's still going to putter along until Hoshizora Meteor moves on to another project (likely more Type Moon, specifically Girl's Work).

Personally, I feel cheated that we got a Black Falcon in the end, but no Black Robin. Well at least Kaori marrying in sets a precedent...

That said, yeah, aside from the "American Zvezda" (with their own counterpart to Kate!), it does leave somee questions, like:

  • Who the heck is leading White Light now? Both Renge and Maki seemed to have been sincerely surprised that they still have a boss.
  • Who are "they". I mean, Smokers are Evil are a thing in this world, but when people literally disintegrate while smoking, something is up.

WTF. Just WTF.

Goro got married!?

Also, Roboko's transformation.

And the disintegrating smoking people, and the Tokyo mascots and well, everything.

Finale:

  • I was getting worried that funny moments were long dead. I worried too much. Quirky final boss battle!
  • The real Itsuka showed herself. The way it came about was unusual.
  • Goro and Kaori, huh? Also, I just realized that the code names for Miki, Renge, and Kaori are their last names in English. Also, here's your Black Light representative!tongue
  • So...I guess Yasu didn't back-stab them, but he kinda did back-stab them...tongue
  • Smokers in the shade, acting all menacing. Then they just went poof for a power-up?
  • Nice disguise, Roboko. I honestly did not think it was you.
  • Aw, I thought Renge was gonna be in charge of White Light now. Who's the bird behind the rainbow screen?
  • After the battle, Kate became a household name in West Udogawa. Now Zvezda has been issued a challenge from their evil counterpart in New York. A new battle's on the horizon. And Kate and pals will get some souvenirs while they're at it!
  • Oh, silly Asuta. Kate has conquered you. You just don't know it yet.evil grin

With that, this show has been... Conquered! *insert victory fanfare*

I don't mind all questions left unanswered. They makes it interesting, if anything. Makes it feel like the world doesn't just end at the plot here.

I think some of the unanswered questions, like "them," just come down to the show's weird dream logic, same as, "is there really a tunnel between Ukgraine and West Udogawa?" No, probably not, it's a metaphor. Similarly, Kate, as a child, is likely to imagine any real opposition as a vast, faceless conspiracy. It's kind of a kid thing.

Take things too literally in this kind of show and you just end up confusing yourself.

@Dorkus: That seems really likely. Maybe a new season would tell us more about the supernatural causes.

[up]Haha, yeah. If you try to take Kate seriously, then Kaori and Asuta's dad were right, it's all bullshit.

I guess the true reason for what Kate does is to experience the world and create a family.

[up][up]Well, Last episode they sort of explained that's there's a temporal rift beneath West Ugogawa that leads to the ancient Udogawa culture, so I think that's how Natasha got from Ukraine to Japan.

Other things:

  • Pierre's alive! Glad he didn't bite it in the end. His cakes would have been missed. So...Everyone Lives?
  • Check out mah Zvezda skillz. So, should I assume that all Zvezda operatives have milk-drinking as a part of their skill-set?tongue
  • Kate put a skill she learned to good use. I liked that. Especially since I never expected it to be used.cool
  • I also liked her Super Mode black dress.

Loved it. There were a lot of things to like, but I think the linchpin of all of it was Kate. If she wasn't as pitch perfectly designed and acted, the whole would not have worked. I especially give major props to her voice actor (though not enough to look her up, as I try to be actor agnostic). She was basically the linchpin of the linchpin.

Eh, I always felt Kate was the weakest point of the show.

That's just biased. In this sort of show, either everyone's weak together, or nothing is strong. If I have to compare, this show is like 12 slices of bread, each given different amount of jam to spread. It doesn't pretend it can spread all of them evenly. Just need to spread them where they count.

Same as usual.... Wing it.

Well, that's how I feel, but I was speaking to whoever has beef with -only- Kate or the setting as a whole. I do think this show has well spread out strong parts, and as I said, it's not often you come across a show where every episode makes you learn something new without resorting to Once an Episode format or Negative Continuity.

Same as usual.... Wing it.

Okay, been out for a while, but anyway.

OVA. In which there are idols and singing.

Cute pictures.

Not crazy enough of a suggestion. That's one weathered crowd.

She seems happy. And reminiscent of Miss Monochrome.

She's sneaky. She earns a cool point.

Back to squealing pigs.

I've never found the "sing this tone" kind of training particularly useful until you're good enough to sing decently anyway.

Nice glasses.

For a robot to blush, it would require quite a lot of heat. Enough to fry just about every circuit inside.

I like Renge here.

Of course it would turn out that way.

More sneaking around. Also, it would be better to not dress like that. Just dress in pajamas. Preferably something that doesn't look perfectly adjusted. Then you can just pretend you're sleep walking if you're caught.

Not so sneaky.

Well, the charm worked, at least.

How nice of her. Just push him in.

Not sure she needs the charm.

Oh, her. Shouldn't be too surprised. And exactly what is she wearing? Well, not more strange than the rest of the characters.

Nice timing.

Ruined his vacation mood? And he says that laughing?

Everyone's just silent.

I wonder how comfortable it'd be hugging someone with that... collar.

Lesson of the episode: If you're going to do something, do it with all you've got.
