I wonder if Miuna ends up giving her heart to Manaka to solve things. The opening could could be said to indicate this. Would be an interesting twist at least.

[up] Doubt it. Unless Hikari and co. are big enough jerks to be fine with that.

Finally Tsumugu confesses. Props for the nice choice of words. Let's tie up one romantic plot thread please!

I'd say Manaka should regain the ability to love, primarily because she's being shut out of some pretty important memories because of the "deficit". And that sucks.

Episode 24. In which a hero goes after a heroine.

Now we're getting to the point where just about anything is a spoiler.

So, he was rejected. Well, putting someone on the spot like that is kind of harsh. But sometimes necessary, and the reaction doesn't necessarily tell the truth.

I wonder how much this will switch from All Love Is Unrequited to I Want My Beloved to Be Happy... Well, it's been a bit of both for a while, but still. Though in Chisaki's case, it's less her beloved and more her friend.

I also wonder what Manaka really did feel, since it's a little different if Chisaki's the one saying Manaka loves Tsumugu.

Yeah, she knows something's missing.

Okay, Miuna's really cute when she's being sly towards Hikari.

Getting the Ofunehiki going again is somewhat easier than last time. Despite everything, people are still willing to do it. Even more than before.

I heard you like people listening to people...

And then Sayu crashes Kaname's façade like train running over a crossing. Quite succesfully, in more than once sense. Go Sayu the hero!

Hikari admits he's actually in love with someone.

That was one of the more Jerkass confessions I've ever seen You probably shouldn't tell her how she feels. Even I know that. Even if your right.. Sounded worse than he meant it however.

Kaname and Sayu deserve each other. They both arn't idiots. I liked his response too. Pretty reasonable on both their parts. The train was kinda silly though. Television often seems to underestimate how loud they are. Or long.

Glad all that scienciey stuff turned out to be useful to Tsumugu.

I kinda suspect that you may need to send a person rather than a statue to Manaka's heart back.

Episode 24: Tsumugu messes up his confession from last episode, big-time. HOW.

I want to feel sympathy for Kaname, but he simply never interested me. Glad for him though, and congrats on breaking the unrequited love streak this show had going. Speaking of which, Akira's letter! Frickin' cute and hilarious.

Chisaki needs to realize that Tsumugu and co. wouldn't let her stay as the Wooden Maiden for long if she ever decided to be one. She also needs to sort out her feelings, but yeah let Tsumugu mull over his botched confession for a bit more.

And obligatory mention of how cute Miuna is.

[up][up] I laughed at that part, the queue of listeners. Reminded of the line of stalkers from Zetsubou.

[up] Botched confession?

He was dead on. Don't blame him because Chisaki's a coward, scared of change who keeps using her friends as convenient excuses to feel better about herself. He wants to move forward as the young adult he is. Chisaki's so stagnant she wants to become dead inside. She needs some meds or a bright slap I hope someone will deliver. She keeps running away and hurting everyone's feelings with her grotesque selfishness.

Slapping someone, contrary to what fiction claims, doesn't help. And she's been afraid of change since the beginning of the series. It's probably her main character flaw.

The show is blaming Chisaki, she's the one cast in a pathetic light as a coward running away who can't move on. Kaname rightfully lectures her. The one with a glaring flaw to overcome is Chisaki, the ball is on her court. She's not a kid anyone, she needs to step up and mature and stop running from anything that makes her uncomfortable. While Tsumugu's cast as the hero who is solving the world issues and moving forward after overcoming his passivity. You'll notice two different reactions to what happened: Chisaki being a suicidal selfish wreck hurting the ones she loves (stuck in the past) while Tsumugu taking action to save the world from an Ice Age and return Manaka her feelings rather than be a self-absorbed mess who covers his issues with an excuse (matures to move forward the future).

Tsumugu did the right thing. Chisaki wasn't an adult to handle the situation because she still wants to play middle school student in her mind. Of course this is her main character flaw, that's why it's entirely her fault if she can't overcome it. Tsumugu overcame his already.

[up] Which I agree with. Tsumugu's right. Doesn't make Tsumugu less of a jerk, and doesn't make Chisaki less of a wreck.

Episode 25. In which there is a sacrifice.

So the truth is revealed through a clumsy little kid. Well, not exactly unexpected.

Just struck me that the two people underwater there are the two not from underwater.

Okay, this time Tsumugu got through to Chisaki. But honestly, getting to a point where the other three are happy would automatically solve her issue, so for the sake of the drama in the show, it's better to solve it earlier on its own, so they can milk it a little more. Strange as it may seem. It's nice to hear her laugh, though. And that scene kind of shows that it's less that she's selfish and more that she isn't, which is the problem. Putting others before yourself doesn't help if you're first in the line and they can't get past you.

Miuna kind of reminds me of Shichimiya. (Spoilers for that show too.) Wanting the one she loves confess that he loves someone who isn't her.

Okay, him arriving in a tiny car is all kinds of wrong.

Namaka getting ena again feels right. And it sort of makes sense.

So, with a proper wooden sacrifice drifting to them, can they swap that one with Miuna? Who otherwise is the one left alone.

Wow, I was right in #76. Didn't expect that. Although it basically got foreshadowed all episode(Independence day class foreshadowing also).

Tsumugu may have the worst social skills I think I've ever seen in anime without being an actually jerkass. He got forgiven at least.

Kaname saving Saya was cute. At least someone gets to be sane.

I'm kinda wondering how a ceremony that causes a mini-natural disaster each time got popular. That can't be good for fish stocks.

Honestly, the easy solution is If Manaka's heart doesn't come back. Then you can end up with everyone happy(Manaka did actually seem happy that way).(here you assume the statue works) This doesn't seem like one of those writers who could recognize that however. So its just a matter of which M-girl ends up the unlucky one. And they may need to send someone to the sea to save the land. Not sure the statue would work. I'm kinda betting on Manaka swapping with Miuna.

I'm pretty sure previous ceremonies didn't end up like these.

I don't think Manaka's that happy. She seems rather concerned over her lost feelings, and considering how she felt with Miuna there, I wouldn't say that happy is the first word I'd use to describe her. It would also assume Hikari could change his feelings, which is just about the same as Miuna changing hers.

I'm sure the previous ceremonies went better also. I just though it was amusing that the village was all fired up to do it again considering what happened last time.

Well, I'd assume changing is better than giving up, which is what Miuna would have to do. Or be trapped at the bottom the sea I guess. You end up with either one person unhappy or one person half-unhappy no matter what.

Poor Miuna. Guess it's her turn to wake up in the future?

Being blunt is more acceptable if it comes with laughs. That's how you do it Tsumugu.

I will kill you, sea god, if that's what it takes. Alas, sadly, Hii-kun, PROTECTOR OF SMILES x manaka is kinda probably the OTP, so even if Miuna is okay(which she will be), she won't win ;_;.

Man, the Hikari we ended up with is so different from the Hikari we started the show with.

He was so bratty and unlikable at first, his Character Development was kind of amazing.

Hikari's Character Development is definitely the highlight of the series for me; the Scenery Porn is a close second, to be fair, including the sound landscape and effects for the underwater segments. the slight delays in the sounds, the echoes, and the slight distortions were all great ways to convey the location.
