[up][up] Sorta like Gunstar Heroes I guess? One of them stops while firing.

Definitely should be an option.

What part are you having difficulty in?

Try taking it slowly and carefully. Spread attack or homing attack can help.

You can parry the pink spike balls (needed to get a coin).

Is that the one with the woodpeckers? The beginning with the rollie pollies is HARD but after that it's not too bad until the end.

I'd use smoke charm for the woodpecker part and generally extra hearts are good for run n gun levels. The miniboss isn't too hard at all, just pay attention to the trajectory of the fireballs. There should always be a bug availible to land on.

And stop using only the peashooter...use either the spread for the first segment or roundabout due to its ability to fill up the screen really fast with projectiles.

Forest Follies is the other isle 1 run and gun which doesn't take place inside the tree trunk.

Unless sickasfricken actually meant Treetop Trouble, as it would be an easy mistake to make since they're kinda similar.

I've seen folks complaining about the difficulty here, in other threads and other parts of the internet. This has made me curious.

How many deaths folks had overall by the time they either beat the game or gave up?

In addition, what are you playing the game with, controller or keyboard?

For clarity: I call beating the last boss on regular as beating the game and you can check your death count at the well in the south side of the second world. I know it doesn't let you check what your death count was if you've gone for S ranks and higher difficulties after beating, so at that point just guess. The well also doesn't help if you're stuck on the first isle.

This isn't about bragging rights or anything, I'm just sincerely curious on what people consider a due investment into the game, how much they're willing to grind at it and at which point they get results or give up.

To beat the Devi it took me 231 deaths, playing with a controller. Spoilering to not set a precedent that people feel they need to match or beat, though I'm not that great at these games so doing so shouldn't be too hard.

[up][up]I’m stubborn. Unless the game stinks, I’ll get through it. I got through PS 2 Shinobi, I can get through this.

yes the game is difficult but its mostly because some stay in place and dont move and the enemies start to spawn faster, but playing with keyboard seems difficult, i play with a controller

213 deaths here at 65% of the game (so Isle 3 and 2 bosses there down), but I tend to restart very quickly if I get hit on early phases. with a controller.

First world isn't much of a deal, imho. I probably died around a hundred times in it because I suck, but objectively, the large majority of the attack patterns are extremely straightforward. it's very simple to understand how to position yourself to avoid most of the attacks and get the tells of the ennemies. Slap the invincible dash on top of it and you won't have much trouble.

Second world takes off the gloves and starts throwing complex patterns and require to choose your shots type according to it if you want to ease the trouble. i'd start making comparisons to dark souls and furi around there.

i'll finish it without much of a doubt tho. The game's good, and it's challenging in a way that never bothered me. I went through the whole souls series and through Furi, I'm not gonna get stopped by this one.

I has tried it out. It is awesome! It is bloody HARD! It reminds me of old school games way back in the days of the NES, SNES and Sega Genesis.

I've beaten The Root Pack but nobody else so far.

Oh, I want to say, I freaking loved the bird stage. Every phase of that stage was solid gold.

First island clear! Best rank on any stage/boss is A-.

I noticed what's her name's astronomy motif. The first plane boss. She has attacks built after 3 zodiac constellationsnote  and the Moon.

The Moon phase gets really weird.

Beat the game the other day with 307 deaths total. Got 100% on the save file which isn't actually too hard surprisingly (you just have to get all the coins + the hidden ones in the overworld). I have a Let's Play [[here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bo53P-26Bck&t=764s]] going on as well on my second save (hopefully I'm allowed to mention that).

It's really, really good. I contest the idea that you need to be a difficulty fanatic or fan of a small handful of specific older games to enjoy this. As long as you're okay with dying a bunch I think just about anybody can power through this.

It's rare that a game is a showfloor darling at stuff like PAX and then comes out and actually 'exceeds' the hype. The fact that it's dropped a million copies is astounding to me.

edit: apparently I have forgotten how to type links and the markup help tab won't open in Vivaldi. How embarrassing.

Done with isle 3. Dear giant robot, I would have to politely ask you to fuck off. The train was such a breather compared to that guy.good thing the super in plane is really good, it really helps a lot in the fight.

Only the final isle remain. I think i'll save it for tomorrow, I'm too sick for continuing tonight.
