[up]

I do find it odd to see Supergirl on that list given she isn't a part of any marginalised group. I hope it isn't clumsy inserting of a character with a tv show.

Well, she is a girl. (It's right there in the title.) And girls have had to put up with some bullshit over the years. Mind you, if they're doing a strictly modern take on the DCU's history, then I don't know if there's that much you can do. On the other hand, if they take a page from Marvels — look at the DCU from a quasi real-time perspective, going from 1938 to now — then they'd have a hell of a lot to work with there.

[up]And it hasn't. But we've still made a number of strides in women's rights and harassment awareness regardless. So if you were to choose between a story being set today or, say, 60 years ago, which is going to have more to work with?

It could be viewed as unfortunate that Supergirl is a female derivative of a popular male character, which is unfortunately the case for a lot of female super-heroes. Even in the case of Spider-Woman, who really doesn't have anything to do with Spider-Man, the uninitiated tend to view her as a female Spider-Man (which would apply more accurately to Spider-Girl, and Spider-Gwen, and Silk, etc).

... You know what ****ing annoys me

EVERYTIME I have a serious Titans discussion

There is that one doofus. that says the real reason the Titans book currently sucks is cause it needs the Original Titans back.... but what they really mean is they want the New Teen Titans setup so we can have Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy and Cyborg on the team and will casually throw out Garth, Lilith, Roy and Karen without addressing the books actual problem!

My misgivings about the overall plot aside I still enjoy Titans for the character stuff which is still the books strong point. Its just the main plot... or namely the second arc has been kinda scattered brained and dragged its feet. 'Lazarus Contract didn't help'

I mean the Titans disbanding is nothing new infact the Titans disbanding cause the JL came down on them like a ton of bricks is nothing new either...

The current problem is the JL's justification right now is really weak at the moment unless there was more to the sudden cutaway between Bruce and Dick when Dick suddenly rolled over for the League

[up]JUSTICE LEAGUE: You have one teammate on your team that used to be evil. And depending on the continuity, so have we. And nearly everyone else. YOU MUST DISBAND! No hard feelings?

Someone said it have made more sense if Barry and Diana had shown up to take Wally and Donna on Sabbitical cause the recent traumas have made them realize they've been neglecting them and that was the focal point its not the JL forcing a disband its more like a forced R &R session, IE the titans need to breath

instead having Bruce basically punish them for saving the day cause they did things out of EMOTIONS and Not the way he'd have done them and WE might let you be a Team reeks of abuse of my authority!

Honestly I feel someone should have Bruce take a break himself. God knows, he's put more people in danger through his need to single handedly police the entire DC universe.

Too bad most people don't say "Brother Eye", or right now "Metal" to shut Bruce up.

Wake me up at your own risk.

I mean Dick outright says how hypocritical this whole thing is... and then we cut away and dick agrees to have the Titans stand down and kicks eveybody out of the tower

I really hope there is a real good reason for Dick to roll over like that... Dick's caused intergalactic incidents for less!

Though one bit I think you don't appreciate unless you are a fan of Titans history is when Dick decides to cave both Roy and Garth look like they are about to kick Dick's nice ass

Roy that was his place in the dynamic to be the passionate one... but Garth's is funny is when you remember alot of the original Teen titans run had Garth trying to quit or get off the team to the point Garth was almost more a part time recurring member then a full fledged member 'cause he'd always show up to quit but get guilt tripped into staying'

Garth being on the more adamant ones with Roy that the titans are his home is very heartwarming

Remember in JLA/Titans when the JLA wanted to destroy cyborg but the Titans were like "fuck you if you want to do that you have to go through us." Good times.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?

Atleast that was

JLA: Cyborg is eating the Moon... We kinda need that

Titans: I'm sure he's eating the Moon for a Good Reason!

It's always kind of irritated me that Clark is a kind, humble guy of lower-middle-class origins who works as a highly ethical and principled journalist while Bruce is a perpetually-pissed-off billionaire he-man who thinks of ways to kill his friends and is a big advocate for mass surveillance...

...and yet it's Clark who always goes fascist in AUs. tongue

[up]I think the closest we've come to Facist!Bats is the Justice Lords. And that still had Facist!Supes. At least they were both facists.

Batman was less evil there, though.

Yeah but Facist!Bats turns good in the end while Facist!Supes stays evil. [nja]

At this point I want a story where Batman is the genuinely evil motherfucker beyond redemption.

The closest representation right now is Metal where the Dark Knights are a bunch of self-righteous douche bags but their still alternate exaggerated nightmare versions of Bruce.

For the record, I like Batman, I just prefer when these traits of his are treated as character flaws rather than signs he's a nigh-messianic ubermensch who's the hero we need against his eeeeeeeevul ex-friends.
