The problem with temporal order is there's no way to see it. If a casual reader is just looking at the page, they cannot tell if the first example was written first or last. You have to leave the page to determine temporal order, and the servers delete very old edits from memory. Which means everyone eventually loses the ability to determine temporal order.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here. The official policy is still first and foremost "Respect the ordering method currently in use on the page."
In general, tropes on works pages, indexes and comparative lists (like the canonical and Laconical lists of distinctions) are listed alphabetically, examples on trope pages are listed in order of their addition, and entries on sliding scales are listed according to where they fit best.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.So, what does this default into? The page as-is is a mixture, and I doubt that there was any kind of ordering before the alphabetization.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanBumping again, for input.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'd say default to alphabetical of it's not clear what the original order was
So, what about the issues I said?
Well, if nothing else, the discussion here suggests to use the alphabetic order so that it what I am going to do here.
As for your issues: Making a YKTTW for example pimping seems the only way to go.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWhat is entry pimping, as in what you suggest?
As a side note: that bit in the edit reason about entries referring to entries higher up in the list. Correct me if I a wrong, but all entries should stand alone, correct? I always edit entries that say stuff like "like the blahblah above except blahblah" so that they do not reference any other entries (although they may reference other works if that adds anything).
Personally I prefer alpha because it encourages people to start with the work's name, which makes it easier to fix indentation errors and helps discourage people from making those errors in the first place. I have to undo a lot of entries written like
- blah blah and blah blaha does blah in work name blhadeblah
- also blah and blha!
in order to fix example indentation and it is a pain.
Clock is set.
Clock's up; locking for inactivity.
From what I've heard, alphabetic order is preferred, and the only reason it's not used everywhere is that it takes a lot of work to order all pages.
