"He just wants to watch the world burn"
, with maybe a link to Meet the Pyro for posterity.
He doesn't, though, he just really wants to make the world a better place. Kind of.
really?... because I'm not very familiar with the context of the image.
I don't mind a quote that has relevance to the character or work but I wouldn't want to get too esoteric with what you'd use.
Which caption were you referring to?
I think a link to meet the pyro would be nice.

The ones suggested so far that seem highly reliant on knowing things about a character. Don't like the "hey, if you want this to make sense then watch this too" linking suggestion either, either it works as displayed or it doesn't.

so should we go with something blatantly obvious like, "single white male, smoker, likes to start fires and wear masks"
It's not a binary equation, there's a middle ground but right now I think no caption is good enough.

Good enough but adding a cute little joke about the character doesn't take away from anything.
Oh really when?yeah no caption is fine. The pic is large enough without it.
Edit: would it not be wise to pothole it to the video explaining who the character is? Or at least to the TF2 character page.

It wouldn't. We could have a caption, just not one which is meaningless to anyone unacquainted with the work or asks the reader to go offsite for no real reason. Figure we should let Wiki Magic handle the caption because this is very done now.

Agreed, moving on...
No consensus on a caption; locking up.
"Do you believe in magic?"
Oh really when?
