I was thinking about the amount of resources required to clear the event maps. Assuming 6 maps, and 50k of each resource for maps 1 and 2 combined, as well as each of maps 3 to 6, I'll need 250k in total to clear Midway. Assuming I can gain 5k of each resource (probably only 4k for bauxite though, but I doubt the bauxite cost will come from the maps), I'll need like 50 days of hoarding. Since I have around 30k of each resource now, I'll need 44 days of hoarding. In other words, I can clear Midway if it takes 37 days i.e. 30 May. So if Midway takes 21 days I can clear up to E-3. Even if I can clear E4 with the resources I'll have hoarded by Midway (which I highly doubt), I'll still need 30 days from 23 April to get 150k resources i.e. 23 May. Which will allow me to clear up to E5 if the event lasts 21 days.

Ugh. Guess I'll have to try 6k... which will allow me to gain the required amount in 37 days from now for the first case (23 May/E5), or 25 days from 23 April for the second case (18 May/E5)... which will leave me 4 days short for E6.

Looks like the most I can hope for is E5 I guess. Unless they extend the event for a week or so. Best if they make it last a full month, but highly unlikely. Then again, considering the historical Midway took place in June, one can still hope, I guess?

Welp, it's as some people feared. Medals. Urgh.

The basic gist:

  • Medals are now important, as they're going to be exchanged for the special remodel items (needed apparently for Tone etc), with the exchange rate being 4 medals to 1 remodel item. This guarantees that you HAVE to do the special operations, including 5-5. Spring event maps will give multiple medals however...
  • Confirmation of Tone-class and Bismarck getting Kai2 and Zwei.
  • New Scout Plane bonuses only take effect when you get air superiority.

It'd have been more acceptable if the medals had been for Ibuki and Shinano's alternate remodels, instead of the ships that apparently will get them (Tone class and Bismarck). Unfortunately...

Not like we can go against what the devs do.

Given how you can only finish Special Operations sorties once a month, I'm guessing people will try to farm the event maps (if they're repeatable) as much as possible for the medals.

More event details:

We will need high LOS in order to reach the boss, which can be achieved in 3 fashions: -Using Kanmusu with high LOS -Using Recon Seaplane, Observation Seaplace, Seaplane Bomber -Using Carrier-Based Recon Aircraft

No wonder the Tone Sisters are getting the attention, as they have the highest LOS of non-carrier ships.

For this event, boss hp gauges will -not- regenerate (applied to all maps). Please bear in mind that it is very likely that there won't be any chip damage. As result, the fact there is no regeneration doesn't mean it will be any easier since you will have to sink the flagship properly 5-7 times. That said, there won't be any risk that your successful attempts will be nullified over time.

So, sighs of relief for people, as one can take on the bosses on their own pace if there is indeed no regen. However, getting there...

[up]So it's another mini-event. A pre-Midway, if you will, because part of Midway's failures was due to failed scouting by the Tone-class CAs.

Aaaaaand the event is upon us. I think I'll spend the first day of the event waiting for confirmations on what's needed for event maps 1 and 2 before sending my girls into the grinder.

Still can't get used to the revamped interface.

Oh well, hope I can get used to it soon.

New ships are adorable, especially Amatsukaze. The Tone and Chikuma Kai Ni designs were unexpected, but holy hell are they amazing.

Also, once I get home from my trip, I intend on actually beginning to play this game.

Terrible, terrible spat of RNG-induced stupidity last night. While I didn't have any problems with E1, E2 was a nightmare. 27 tries, only a single boss node hit, and what's worse, just as I managed to beat the boss, I suffered a sudden error cat, which meant that my win was invalidated.

Getting to the boss node is entirely dependent on surviving both the node with the Ta-Class battleship, and the night battle node after it; the former because the Ta has an annoying tendency to crit, and the latter due to the sheer troll levels of Cut-In attacks, even with a Spotlight equipped. Urgh.

E3 is relatively easier apparently (just a matter of whittling Darwin-chan's HP), but the next two "Special Operations" ramps up the difficulty again, as apparently E4 requires you to take five D Ds to even get to the boss, while E5 is yet another Boss Rush, with the Remote Island Demon escorted by the freaking Battleship Hime.

Took me a while to realise that 4 seaplanes wouldn't cut it for E1. In the end I sent 7, including flagship Suzuya with 4 seaplane bombers for the node with submarines.

I hate Ta-class BBs already. I should just leave E2 for after my Kongou-class BBs get to level 75. Halfway to level 74 now...

From what I heard, E4 isn't that hard; you only have to worry about the RNG.

Yeah, Ta-Classes are proving to be massive pains. There's just got to be SOMETHING there to explain their unnatural ability to crit level 90 ships. The only comfort I'm getting as they're singular so far, and they only shop up in specific nodes, but they still hurt when they hit.

[up][up]

E4 isn't that hard if you use everything provided to fight against RNG. Fleet composition: decently leveled D Ds(75+) x 5 and a BB or BBV, with all non-flagship D Ds carrying 1 damecon each.

Basically, the idea is advance if you have no more than 2 D Ds in red. The damecon will protect your DD. Not to mention the boss node's S Ss accuracy stink so chances are you may not used up any damecon at all. Reason why I said no more than 2 D Ds because you still need at least 3 ASW damage dealers in order to sink the boss for sure.

Your BB will very rarely get blown up at the pre-boss node if she's in good level. I gave my BBV 2 guns + 1 Sanshiki + 1 Observation Plane instead of ASW planes to attack enemy ships in pre-boss node for a chance to knock them to orange, which will reduce their firepower + accuracy aka less chance to get hit for your D Ds.

And lastly, support fleet. USE IT. Killing the D Ds and perhaps the CL means less chip damage to your D Ds. With some luck, you might even knock the FBB and ECA to orange, reducing their power against you.

I was able to clear E4 within 10~11 attempts with that, where only 2~3 times I chose to retreat due to having too many red D Ds, and got sent home once at the first node by an unlucky torpedo crit. Met the boss 7 times and sunk it 7 times.

It's expensive. But it beats banging your head against the wall again and again in frustration.

Up to E-5 now, and the bar looks like it's just under the halfway mark. However my fuel's gone below 50k (48k actually), so I'm thinking of recouping some resources first before continuing.

Still sticking with the 3 BB + 3 CV setup, as there's no way for me to get superiority with just two carriers. I'm also dependent on support fleets, but eventually may have to just do Boss support when things become tight.

Very thankful there's no regen this time around, but I've found that success basically requires a) the Battleship Hime in the middle node doesn't reduce anyone below orange and b), your fleet at the boss doesn't have anyone that drops below orange. Even with the latter though, you're still going to pray REALLY hard that your ships focus fire on the Demon, or the sortie is a wash.

Ahaha, had to happen eventually, but I hit a RNG-induced roadblock with about 10% of E-5's health bar left. The third node is simply not letting any of my attempts through, and my resources have suffered as a result. As there's no regenerating health bar though, I can take my time for the rest of the week to recoup resources, then try again Thursday evening hopefully. ^^;

This is definitely one of those situations where stats do matter, as higher levels guarantee some defense from criticals done by bosses like the Battleship Hime, something my level 70 Mutsu and Nagato, or my level 62 Kaga, don't really have (most of my sorties have to end at the third node, when my mostly-healthy fleet has one member reduced to red by a Battleship Hime crit).

Finally finished my E-5 run this morning. :) The last three runs had to be done at 85% sparkles though, as it's the only real way to ensure surviving with just scratch damage at the midstage node.

Glad to have the main maps over and done with, now to see if I can farm both Hamakaze and Maikaze in the time left. And welcome last chubby sister!

The team and final resource count. 270 buckets left out of 740 at the start of the event. Note how only Akagi is in the level 90 range, so it's doable with low levels, but you MUST have resources and a few items of note, many of them holo-rarity planes: Reppus, Ryuusei Kais, Shinden Kais, Type-3 Ammo, and 46 cm guns.

Given how LEVEL 90+ was the average level suggested in Wikiwiki for the event, yeah, would you rather have me call my fleet used "mid-level" instead?

It's more like a high level fleet is recommended for the map, as always, seeing that most of the battles are in the day. Your fleet is just mid-high level.

Of course, to those with married girls, yours are mid-level, yes.

New update! New Ship Girl! And who here expected RJ-chan to ALSO get a Kai-2 remodel?

And the new Extra Operation for world 2 more or less makes use of the LOS gimmick from the anniversary event. Hmm.

MyssaRei Since: Feb, 2010
#225: Jun 7th 2014 at 4:45:42 PM

Well, kind of late, but yeah, we got another Kai-2, and another Carrier of sorts. The former is Hiryuu, who gets a boost to her plane slots, but yet another ridiculous level to grind to (77-ish), and the latter is Taigei, who is a sub tender that converts into a carrier —Ryuhou, who the fandom immediately loved due to her combo of Shigure and Yuudachi (yes she says Poi too) AND voiced by Ogura Yui... Given how she has the same kind of hair flaps that Shigure and Yuudachi have, well, it's likely become an artist trademark, rather than the "loyal dog" motif excuse the artist used to give.

Oh, and as for me not really talking about my own misadventures, that's because I got banned in Palau sometime during late May. I was surprised by it too, as I was able to use the API while I was on vacation to play, but was greeted by the ban once I got back home. So I had to make a new account and start anew. I'm still a bit disgruntled, as I was THIS close to completing the picture album folder, and I had all those event ships too (Akashi, Tanikaze, Sakawa, Shioi, Hachi)... oh well.

Anyway, I'm playing in one of the newer servers, but its slow going, but hey, I'm at world 2 now, so it's something.
