Why is that a troll fleet?
Exp gained from Pv P is based on the combined levels of the first two ships in the enemy fleet. According to the table in the wiki, two level 1s give 0 exp. What's worse is that the rest of the fleet are high leveled and remodeled ships meaning I'm more likely to lose and gain 0 exp

By the way, what does it mean when you get that hexagon background with no girl from map drops?
Don't worry, you still got a drop. The cg is just not loading

I wonder why it's not just 40% of the total combined levels, then.

It's just how the system is set up.

As for Quests, you have to work out a habit of completing the daily quests, as they're an easy way of building up buckets and Development Materials (which can't be farmed efficiently on maps). Yeah, Play Every Day is an important thing here, with regards to resources.

Experienced admirals do it like this: Daily Development (craft either a Depth Charge 10/20/10/10 or Sonar 10/10/10/20 for low-level admirals, Yamato 10/10/20/20 plane for experienced ones) ==> Daily Construction (30/30/30/30 recipe) ==> Daily Dev 2 (again either Depth Charge, Sonar, or Yamato plane) ==> Construction 2 (use the 30s recipe again). You should be seeing a good net GAIN if you do this.

If you don't have a good fleet use the results from Construction 2 to fill in your roster. If you've got doubles however, use those instead for the Daily Modernization quest.

As mentioned, don't worry too much, just focus on unlocking the 3rd fleet quest (needs Sendai sisters for this). Once you have fleets 2 and 3, start cycling them through the Expeditions, and try unlocking as many expeditions as you can. Expedition 2 is for Buckets and Ammo, Expedition 4 is also for buckets, Expedition 3 is for Steel, Expedition 6 is for Bauxite, expedition 5 has good returns for Ammo and Fuel.

My fleet now has sufficient amounts of poi.[awesome]

I've gotten started on those quests now, just waiting on a few things to finish, like Jin getting hurt. Again. Not much of a hassle, but I've never really liked the limited-activate-to-begin type of quest system. It basically just forces you to revisit the quest screen every time you do something, especially since many of them can be inactive as long as you don't do that specific task.

Looking at the quests, I can see that A7 quest blocking a bunch of useful stuff.

For modernisation, is there a limited number, or is it just to raise whatever stats you want, and when those are maxed, take something else?

You can see what each ships you use for modernization adds to your target ship. For example, light cruisers almost universally give + to both Torpedo and Defense, etc. Once a particular stat is maxed out, the other stat that isn't maxed out gets affected, and so on.

In this example, if you've been using Light Cruisers as mod fodder, sometimes the Defense stat of your target ship gets maxed first. This means that the target ship only gains the Torpedo bonus until THAT is maxed out too.

Speaking of which, I DO HOPE you've heart-locked the ships that you want to keep. Seriously, do it — I've heard enough stupidity from kuso-Ts who've somehow used up event-only or LSC ships in their modernization because they forgot to heart-lock them.

So it's basically just to upgrade the stats you see there and not worry about any max limit other than the ship's max for that particular stat?

So far I've heart-locked one of each ship I have. No idea how viable that is in the long run, or if the list just gets very bloated or maxed.

Next priority: Sendai.

"Keepables" really depend on personal taste, but there are a few ships you need to keep an eye on because of quest requirements. I think the wiki has a comprehensive list, so you can build from there. Take note however, if you bring all of those together, they're not an event-worthy fleet, so you'll have to fill in the blanks.

What's an "event-worthy fleet"? But yeah, I know there are a bunch of ships required for various quests (still looking for Sendai). I found the spreadsheet you were probably talking about. Going to have a look at that. Thanks.

So, anyway, a while ago I was doing some light combat (1-1) with Yuudachi and Jintsuu while waiting for others to finish repairing and/or getting in a better mood, and I wanted to check some stuff out about how some stuff worked. I found the battles rather predictable.

  1. Battle 1:
    1. Jin one-shots the single destroyer 90% of the time.
  2. Battle 2 (regardless of which):
    1. Jin hits one destroyer, leaving 1-2 HP.
    2. Yuu hits another destroyer, leaving 1-2 HP.
    3. Enemies attack Jin with a combined 20% chance of making her cry.
    4. Enemies attack Yuu with a combined 10% chance of actually hitting her at all.
    5. Both Yuu and Jin aim their torpedoes at the same 1-2 HP destroyer.
  3. Night battle 2:
    1. Yuu annihilates the enemy flagship with two criticals.
    2. Following events are less predictable if anything is left.

The RNG is very funny in this game. 2.5 was especially predictable. Granted, somewhat low sample size, becuse if I actually grind, I want to do it where I get decent returns.

I also tried 1-4. Was rather difficult. Had one DD, three CL and two CA. Naturally, at the boss battle, Poi-chan nabbed MVP. Then again, she does that if it goes to night battle.

I find getting Shoukaku for my first carrier seems reasonably lucky. Mainly because I like her; not because of stats (haven't checked all too much how ships compare that isn't a DD or CL). Would've been nice to have a light carrier for some quests, though.

Also, is it mean to place Kisaragi as the last ship in the fleet?

Event-worthy means that you have a flexible number of ships for the format usually expected in seasonal events. When I was prepping for Midway for example (I just recovered from the ban and started on a new account) I very quickly tried to amass the following:

4 fleet carriers 6 light carriers 2 Aviation Battleships 2 slow battleships 4 fast battleships 8 heavy cruisers 8 light cruisers 2 torpedo cruisers 16 destroyers 2 submarines

Throw in a CAV (Mogami is fairly common in world 2) for spice. This gives you enough ships for Combined Fleet's two configurations, Map Support, and Boss Support.

If you go back a bit here (and on the Asuki thread I started), you'll see that I was able to complete 5 of Midway's 6 maps with my fleet, even after barely a month and a half of rebuilding.

Well, you sink a lot more time into the game than I do, and you know what you're doing, so things are going to go a little faster for you. But I do plan to keep a diverse fleet. I mean, I change the girls around all the time, so I need backups, and so far more than I can optimise decent fleet configurations and equipment.

Actually, as far as equipment goes, I'm still just using stock stuff. Mainly just doubling up on the guns. Not sure what's actually more effective, but I'll play around with that later, when I have more stuff.

Skimming the thread a bit, seems I got lucky with Yuubari. Got her on a minimum recipe. Got two of her.

Neat, just got Kaga. That makes two CVs.

[up] If you have the spare recon seaplanes, I suggest equipping them to your C As for special attacks since you have C Vs now for air superiority

Speaking of which, you're lucky you got Kaga. AFAIK, she has the best AA of the C Vs

I have one recon sea plane; Kuma's standard, and one spare plane (Type 96 Fighter). Other than what Kaga and Shoukaku came with.

Now, the number of the specific planes depends on which equipment slot you use, right? What strategy is best for those? I suppose it doesn't matter much for Shoukaku, who's rather even, but Kaga has most in her third slot. Also, if you have two carriers in the fleet, is it best to spread the planes out, or focus them on specific tasks? And if not planes, what's best to equip for carriers?

Well, time to read up on equipment and special attacks.

Also, finally got through 1-4. Naturally, Kaga took single-digit damage, and that was all for the entire map. Finished all encounters before nightfall (and Poi-chan still managed to take one or two MVPs).

It's kind of funny how the anime talks up Akagi, while Kaga's better in the game. Except Kaga requires more resources, which is also funny.

Until you get better planes, you mean. My standard starting setup is usually two green planes in the largest slots, then torpedo bombers for the smaller slots (until you get a Saiun, which in that case you put it into the smallest slot). They're usually enough for non-event maps.

For event maps, you're basically going to be forced to turn your carriers into Reppu mules (what with the proliferation of Hellcats), with one carrier carrying a torpedo bomber in their smallest slot, and the OTHER carrier carrying a Saiun in their smallest slot too.

While some people like carrying red planes against armored targets (B Bs and heavy cruisers), torpedo bombers are a better bet I've found, especially since divebombers can't hit Installation bosses.

*sigh*

I miss my subs. I had forgotten that dailies used to actually take at least some modicum of effort and resources to complete.

Add to that a miss click at the end of 3-2-A run and sending 3 CV(L)s full of torpedo bombers right into a Wo-class and you get a less then fun past two days. I lost like 400 bauxite on that. X__X

Got my first Kai-ish ship. And I kind of forgot I hadn't done the Akagi quest. So three carriers. Also, Kirishima says hi. Finally a battleship.

1-5 really is easy mode levelling for the first three nodes.

Do you gain anything from equipping expedition ships, other than specific expedition equipment?

Late, but welcome to Kancolle!

The only things that really matter for expeditions are: Flasgship level, Level total, number of ships, fuel and ammo, and morale.

Equipment-wise, you'll be needing some drum canisters later on for the efficient expeds which give you really good resources. Apart from that, maybe Akitsu Maru's stock equipment? That's not something you should be concerning yourself with anyway at this point in time.smile

Thanks. Mostly I just run expedition 5, since fuel is what I most frequently lack.

Also, starting to get some of the heavier ships, so I can run the somewhat more difficult (for me, anyway) maps more frequently without using too many buckets. The last four ships I got were Tone, Jun'you, Fusou, and another Choukai, so I'd consider that pretty lucky with the drops.

You can conceivably just play casually until you hit the beginner's roadblock that is world 2-4, which needs either one of two things: a level 30+ fleet of 4 battleships and 2 carriers, or b) 2 level 25+ subs and a whole lot of luck.

Either way, it's best that you start thinking about the long run by that point.

I didn't struggle with 2-4, but that was likely because I had Winter E-2/E-3 behind me, so I already had a good battleship/carrier team from clearing that. I'd imagine that if I had encountered 2-4 before doing the winter event stuff it would have seemed to be more of a difficulty spike.

5th Taihou attempt: Shokaku. I got Zuikaku from attempt number 1 so it completes the set, I suppose I can't really complain.

My fleet now has closer to sufficient amounts of torpedoes, boobs, and love that is also on fire.

Still not sufficient amounts of idol replacements.

2-4 seems hard, but not as hard as presented to just clear. I got to the end there with some bad luck, and the last battle kind of followed that luck. Might even had done it if Kitakami hadn't eaten a salvo and got taken out, although her surviving the entire run is probably rather lucky anyway. With a few tries, it seems doable. Not consistently, but doable. Well, I need to focus on other things anyway, since trying it even once costs a lot.

Also, is it just me, or when you get a new ship, you often get that ship much more frequently after that? Or is that just the RNG being a troll?
