Yeah, and they just closed the deal on some new SAM systems. All the better to scare those US allies with claims in the area.
All night at the computer, cuz people ain't that great. I keep to myself so I won't be a case on The First 48Indonesia sinks a Chinese fishing boat illegally fishing in it's territory.
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.
I like the way you think Indonesia.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleI thought that headline implied something else, namely sinking a occupied boat with guns. Glad to see the conflict has escalated that quickly.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.China buys Tu-22 production line from Russia. A major threat to the U.S. aircraft carriers in the region
For the third time in 7 years (first one being in 2005, second earlier in 2012) several websites in China (link in Chinese) are reporting that China and Russia have agreed for Beijing to buy the production line for the Tupolev Tu-22M3 bomber at a cost of 1.5 billion USD.
Once in service with the Chinese Naval Air Forces the Tu-22M3 will be known as the “H-10″.
Is China really going to start building these supersonic bombers?'
"Unless the Chinese military budget grows at a near-breakneck pace, a development like this would likely impact other equipment procurement and systems development priorities, including ones that are less conventional and more asymmetric," said Aboulafia.
Even if China does build a few dozen Backfires, they may be more for show than anything else.
You think this is a way for them to figure out how to finally make their own engines?
Those islands aren't going to bomb themselves after all.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleBejing Buthurt China has expressed disapproval about the US flying planes over "it's" airspace and photographing "it's" islands. Of course the fact that these are in international waters and airspace is not one China likes to point out. And because the US government has finally grown a bit of a spine
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.Patrol Planes in the South China Sea
The US recognizes no Chinese sovreignity over the disputed areas, and maintains its rights to freedom of navigation in the area. And to do so, they regularly exercise those rights, often via Maritime Patrol Aircraft such as the P-8A Poseidon. Recently, to show how this plays out, a US Navy P-8A brought along a CNN crew to show just what is involved.
This seriously reminds me of a militarized Whale Wars.
These are not international waters.
Lazy and pathetic.Unless it's within 12 nautical miles of actual Chinese territory (artificial island don't count) yes it is.

Check the definition of "international waters". The claim of the PRC on at least a part of this region is legit.
Lazy and pathetic.Mischief Reef? Well they couldn't have picked a better spot.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleI did and the UN convention on the Law of the sea says that territorial waters go 12 nautical miles. Hell I copy pasted nautical miles from the Wikipedia page because I don't trust myself to spell it right.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ Cyran
International wars are not just waters outside of territorial waters, but also the economic exclusive zone.
Lazy and pathetic.Economically the waters might belong to them but I'm just seeing "regulation" being required for overflight and passage, while territorial waters demand "innocent passage".
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranUninhabited islands don't create an EEZ according to UNCLOS. It's debatable if China's "nine-dash line" claim to the South China Sea is even valid in the first place.
Schild und Schwert der ParteiThe only Islands China even has a remote claim to are the Seneko's. Beyond that their claims are utter BS.
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.Senkaku?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanYeah those ones, sorry for the bad spelling. Japan took them from China during the First Sino Japanese war or so I recall.
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.
Yes. Nobody ever lived there, they're just some rocks. However, they have good fishing waters around it, and supposedly some natural resources. Japan has been managing it ever since. They've done basically nothing with them for a hundred years. Until the recent shenanigans of course.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleChina needs to learn to live with the territory that it actually controls. If it was able to recognize independence of Mongolia, even after Mongolia stopped being communist, why not recognize its present boundaries instead of going after islands? (Yes that goes for Taiwan and Fujian islands too.)
Why are the Chinese claims BS? They have claimed the Spratlys since the 1940s and since 1946 the largest Spratly Islands is also Chinese-controlled.
Mongolia is not Chinese.

Lazy and pathetic.
Clever Bastard's. By the time anyone realizes what a threat China is nobody will be strong enough to challenge them.
