There was a black Turn A though. Y'know, the one that got shoryuken'd in the nuts by Mirai's Puchi Guy.

There were four Turn A suits that appeared in the two series, three of the four were just color swaps the Sumo colored Turn X, the black Turn A and the Gundam colored Wa Dom.

One has to wonder if they just didn't put the effort into a custom due to lack of kit popularity or couldn't due to licensing issues with the original designer.

Or just ideas of what people will customize their kits into.

Rx-78 color is always popular. [lol]

Or Char's Red/Salmon pink color scheme, which automatically makes the kit 3x faster.

I just showed Build Fighters to a friend who wasn't particularly fond of mecha anime. He loves the shit out of it. :D

but HOW?

It's been my experience that GBF is a fantastic gateway series into the Gundam franchise, which amuses the hell out of me, considering the fact that it's jam-packed with references to earlier shows. Really, the series itself says it best. The great thing about GBF is that it's fun. There's drama, sure, but it's harmless drama. The fate of the world isn't at stake, and nobody's life is on the line, so you can just sit back and enjoy it.

Plus, meatbuns.

It's true, as I stated way back earlier, GBF got my girlfriend more into Gundam and started her on Gundam modeling. You guys saw the results.

Well other than Alia's... or Yuuki's... or all those people in episode 25 when the Arista Crystal went wild.

So there is drama but it fits in with the odd setting.

That was pretty tame in comparison to the ridiculous crises that you see regularly in normal Gundam series, though.

Try was a disappointment because it took out a lot of the fun things they did for the tourney, all the clever planning and tactics plus tiny details for victory. The cast never suffered a loss in battle for the actual tournament.

Plus all drama was less impactful. Being easily resolved and not in the fun Reji way.

Agreed, Try was not as much fun as the original. From a visual standpoint and some of the things they tried (re: Gunpla Academy vs. Nemesis) were damn spectacular, but I'll always recommend first GBF over Try.

Admittedly, one of the very few things that Try did better than GBF was the final battle. In GBF, yeah, there was something weird going on and it was never entirely sure if people were in actual real danger or what. In Try, everyone throws down in a giant free-for-all because why the hell not, it looks like a lot of fun!

Also, Try's battles were not as exciting as GBF's battles. In GBF, there is still the element of strategy with Sei and Reiji's fights, even if they ended in the same way (by build knuckle). Try simply goes for jigen haou-ing every thing, which gets old after a while.

Build Knuckle spam was easily my biggest complaint about GBF, but Jigen Haoh spam was far and away a worse issue, yeah.

Especially since there really was nothing special about the moves, it was just a straight punch or straight kick even named as such...

A flaming punch. Which is only fun with Captain Falcon.

I never finished Try. Should probably do that sometime.

The worst thing about Jigen Haoh is that it abuses Stock Footage so damn often.

If it is one of those children's animation that goes like 100 episodes it would be more understandable, but this has no excuse. I mean, at least Build Knuckle almost never used stock footage.

S2 was on a shoestring budget compared to S1.

If so then the S2 should have waited a bit more to get ready.

I mean come on, if I heard correctly, Sunrise entered Reconguista's production for almost 5 years. They could have afforded at least two year or so.

And look at the rushed mess that is S2. Oh sure, I'm positive it did the advertising job it was supposed to, but I'm pretty sure it didn't do as good of a job as S1 did. For instance, S1's BD box set sold 8,000, while S2 sold only 2000, according to Oricon chart.

Huh, I thought Try has the same budget as Build Fighter. It's just most battles focus on three gunplas against each other rather than just one. Numbers makes a huge difference, so the animator will get rid of the lesser known mobile suit to save budget for more major battle.

Oh god no they cut so many corners when it came to Try, there were so many rushed off model stuff and such. Heck they even resorted to Clipshow segments in it.

They pulled a DESTINY and rushed it out while it was still fresh in people's minds.

Of course we can't hate all of Try, it did give us Shimon and Gyanko.

And TRYON 3.

You know what?

Try was actually pretty good until episode 3. Then episode 4 came along and things started to go downhill. It first featured Sakai, who was at the time not Awesome!Sakai and still Jerk! Sakai. Then the final episode ended in a pretty darn good note.

Note how episode 4 was the episode when Fumina decided to ditch Cardigan and the final episode saw Cardigan sort of returning as the color and design scheme of Super Fumina.

The conclusion:

Try was under Cardigan's curse.
