When I've made maps I use gimp, but that isn't what you want, correct.
It comes. The corrupter comes. Don't let it touch the tower lest all reality crumble.Do you have a map planned, and just need to get it formalized, or are you starting more or less from nothing and looking to make sure you avert Patchwork Map?
Mostly the latter
I found this not long ago googling 'map generator'. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but it's worth playing around with.

"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."@OP: Are you talking about a map generator, or a program for 'drawing' a map by hand? Or some combination of the two?
Join my forum game!Either, but the former particuarly
Hmm. That's more within my realm of experience; I've already made two map generators for WarCraft 2 and one for Half-Life, and implemented Perlin noise in three languages.
Depending on the features you want, some tools can be hard to implement on the Web, because image processing with Javascript is slow unless you use WebGL (and I don't yet know any form of GPU programming). Vector processing is faster though. What features are you thinking of?

Join my forum game!Having some degree of controlling the shapes/locations of the landmasses, how many 'islands' (I mean continents), and ratio of water to land. Stuff like markers for mountains, plain, deserts would be nice but aren't necessary.
Hmm. What kind of map size/shape are you thinking of? A finite-sized flat square (wrapping or otherwise), an infinite flat plane, a sphere, or something else?
Join my forum game!Just a flat, finite style one.
Does anyone know where I could find some good online map making programs? Ones that are free perferably and if they don't require the downloading of any speciifc software, that'd be great.
