Well the basic setting is kinda like Xenoverse, where various beings from alternate timelines meet up.

I'd go with a religious overtone, so I'll share my idea.
The world's been overrun with mutants from ancient science experiments gone wrong but people think they're demons because societies today have turned into post-apocalyptic theocracies. You get to be a Paladin armed with "holy" technology to combat this threat. You'll get to command common soldiers because your status as a Paladin is the equivalent of the rank of a senior officer.
