Forgot to mention that there needs to be strict checking on who's going to play a public domain figure like Nobunaga and Toyohisa. But given that they're in the manga.

The second one may go techno thriller like Tom Clancy stuff, depending on what happens aside from the usual cloak and dagger stuff.

[up]I'm honestly just a sucker for big-scale crossovers, but having things span entire universes is a bit TOO big for me.

[up]Big-scale crossover? Hmmm...

I was always interested in an RP where every fictional good guy ever is in one military, fighting a multiple-universe war with the bad guys.

please call me "XionKuriyama" or some variation, thanks! | What is the good deed that you can do right now?

I think every fictional character EVER might be a bit of a stretch there. Also, that's still pretty cut-and-dry, good against bad.

I liked that idea I saw a while ago about the Eastern and Western cartoon and tv show franchises fighting a world war against each other. It was more morally ambiguous.

I'd really want to do a sort of crossover RP involving characters from different video games being in a single universe. Something similar to Dissidia, almost, in its execution. Villains from various video games would follow a particularly powerful villain, to take over the Video game world, and a bunch of video game heroes would band together to stop the threat of evil. Something really diverse and interesting like that.

This is about as generic as a crossover can get. But it could still be immense fun anyway.

Well, sometimes it's nice to do something simple and enjoyable in between less generic, more in-depth R Ps. Plus, I've seen an RP like this get REALLY obscure in terms of characters, and it tells a lot about Tropers' interest in certain video games. For instance, I once chose to play as Domingo from Shining Force in an RP like this. For those of you who haven't played Shining Force, Domingo is a baby squid-jellyfish-thing that specializes in Freeze spells.

I played a short-lived game like that at one point. In fact, it explicitly was Dissidia Multiverse, although the sides were Lawful vs Chaotic rather than Good vs Evil.

Alternatively, I'd want help hosting an RP for my homebrew D&D setting, but there are so many R Ps up about medieval fantasy that I'm a little leery about it.

What'd honestly be rather interesting is something Myst-inspired. In the sort of "hapless anyones open a book and find themselves in a strange land" sort of RP. The RP would focus primarily on the interactions between the characters, their new surroundings, and each other, as well as them trying to find a way to return to their own world. I'm kind of seeing it as a spiritual cross between Myst and the first season of Digimon. If this is making any sense whatsoever. I hope so.

I have a deep fondness for characters that take the 'stuck in a fantasy world as the chosen one' thing with practicality and such, so if you'd be willing to put up with that sort of thing then I'd be veeery interested in playing.

That's the thing, I don't see it as a "chosen one" scenario. If the characters become legends, that's IF, they do so through their own deeds rather than because some prophecy said they would. I'm not even sure whether or not this other world would be inhabited by sentient beings. If it is, though, they'd be quite a bit different from human beings. Either in the "much smaller and weaker", "not humanoid", or "godlike" flavor. Like I said, I'm pretty much inspired by Myst, where the local "human" analogues, the D'ni, may look human, but they're anything but, and their Art of creating linking books to other realms can be seen (and misinterpreted by some) as godlike ability.

[up][up][up], [up][up], & [up]

Hmm... It's got my interest to maybe GM something like that. There's a way I could fit it into something else I'd been thinking of GMing. How's this sound: There is some old "chosen ones" prophecy in the place they initially end up and the people there just assume that these inter-dimensional travelers are part of it, so they're treated like they are. But in reality they're not, so they're not automatically destined for greatness or guaranteed to win.

I really want to downplay the involvement of another race as much as possible. A lot of other dimensions are characterized by the people who live there. I want this one to be characterized by the land itself. Things may not need to follow the laws of physics in this realm (floating rocks, rivers that flow upwards, odd day-night cycles, multiple moons and yet Earth-like tides and gravity, et cetera). Something that really shouts to the group, "hey, we are DEFINITELY not in Kansas anymore." I'm starting to imagine that the people who live on this realm may be almost completely extinct, leaving behind dwellings, villages, writings, and all that. Something very Myst-esque. The "beautiful void", as Douglas Adams famously described about it.

However, maybe we can add a sort of "pseudo-prophecy" to the whole thing, by having the group called to a specific area by one of these mystical, almost-gone beings.

The downplay of other races wouldn't work with the idea I've been wanting to GM, but the rest of that still fits.

Specifically I'd been getting an idea for running a fantasy world turn-based simplified Civilization style RP, complete with rules and a hex-based world map.

All I'd have to do is add in the inter-dimensional book travel stuff. The Player Characters would get thrust into leadership roles because these races struggling to survive in this fantastical world just assume that they're part of the "chosen ones" prophecy.

Oh, no, the idea I had was more of a "Group of buddies in Wonderland" sort of idea. A sort of surreal adventure story of a group of people lost in a bizarre world whose primary objective is to go home. A Civilization-esque RP wouldn't fit the tone I'm going for at all.

I see. Well I'm still keeping the civ RP on the back-burner as something I want to do at some point.

A Myst-style RP is still something I could maybe go for GMing, but I'd have to think on it. Partially because while I know the general idea and some of the plot of Myst, I haven't actually played the games other than a brief foray into the first one.

So if I did GM something like that, it most certainly wouldn't be based on the actual Myst plot-line.

Pretty please do more with the races than human/dwarf/troll/the elven rainbow/ etc. standard races. Stuff like, I don't know, gorgon-folk, batlike subterranean races of dragonfolk, selkies, would be so awesome.

Of course. It's not BASED on Myst, just inspired by it. Myst itself would be EXTREMELY hard to RP, what with its focus on visuals and puzzle-solving. A text based RP like this would kind of flounder if it was just that.

I guess a better way I'm thinking of it is, like I mentioned earlier, the first season of Digimon, minus the parts with the Digimon fighting. All the bizarre areas of File Island, like the savannah filled with vending machines, or the 'toy town', or gears sticking out of a mountain. Creative things like that, and seeing a bunch of Earth-born humans suddenly thrust into a surreal environment and seeing how they'd react, and how they'd try to return home.

The main reason I mentioned Myst was the aesthetic. When I imagine this sort of world the characters get thrust into my mind keeps going to Selenitic from Myst; somewhat barren, completely uninhabited, but surreal and beautiful in its own right. Somewhere alien.

@Karrin: What, for the civ RP idea? On that I was just gonna let the players pick what races make up their civs. I'd already decided that the advantages & disadvantages selection would be completely separate too, so players could follow or subvert tropes about certain fantasy races at their own discretion.

@Thrall: I'm pretty sure I get what you're going at, though I'm not sure I would completely remove combat from such an RP if I ran it. Probably not make combat the central focus, and have fights be more in the range of "this thing would annihilate you, RUN", but not completely removed either.

Yeah, I see combat, if anything, very much like you suggested. What comes to mind is the Kuwagamon encounter at the very beginning of the Digimon series. There would be wild creatures, hostile to humans. The difference is that unlike the Digidestined, the main characters would have to use their wits to defeat these beasts, or otherwise simply escape with their lives.

@Thrall: Yeah, something like that.

Again, I'm gonna have to give this some thought. I'm already GMing one game, and a Myst-style RP isn't my first choice for my next RP. (Instead that would be the Civ RP I mentioned.)

That, and the last thing I want to do is jump into GMing an RP without being properly prepared; having a game plan and at least some things into the beginning planned out so I wouldn't end up stalling the game to come up with stuff.

So if it is going to be me and not some other GM, it's not gonna be happening for a while, I'm afraid.

@GOA: I do believe this thread is for seeing if someone else could GM an RP idea. If you're planning to GM the game yourself and are looking for interest, that's what people have been using this other thread for.

EDIT: Wait... You made this thread, so you should already know that?
