Filanticu Chocolate Convention — With Rosemary and Maros

Rosemary reviewed the changes that had been made to her resume. None of the actual content had been altered, except for the fix of a few misspellings and grammar issues. She nodded, approving the changes. "This looks fine to me. Thank you, Mr. Bobby." She added a few files to the resume and attached them. "I've attached two letters of recommendation; one is from Nilas Azari, the head of Azari's, a restaurant on Tharr in the Izeran Empire. The other is a steakhouse on the planet Kaladia, owned by a Mr. Alan Sharpley. I hope these credentials are to your captain's liking," she told Bobby. Maros nodded in approval.

Filanticu, Chocolate Baths — Erruan

Erruan came skidding to a stop as the chocolate splattered across her visor's face plate. An amber warning to the effect of " CAM NET " alerted her to the fact her helmet's micro-camera network was currently blocked by chocolate, but it hardly mattered to her. Scrubbing her face plate a few times, the gooey substance was quickly cleaned off, causing the amber message to disappear. The sight that greeted her was equal parts comic and absurd.

This is turning into a complete mess... The Sirian spared only a moment's pause before she dashed into the confines of the establishment - just barely avoiding one of the Golems - and grabbed the first towel she could find. Ducking back out again, she practically threw the towel at Linda. "Here. Let's get moving before this gets any worse."

Tranquility, GN Committee Room — Azunn

"With pleasure," said Zirien, rising to her feet before Azunn could even fully process the information. Azunn wasn't sure what service branch Zirien had served in - though his gut told him it was the army, or maybe the Space Corps. However, she definitely knew her stuff. "The Achilles class carries firepower suitable for their intended role, but are notably fragile. The Hercules class is only somewhat better in this regard, but for all other intents and purposes is the same as the Achilles class. Their sensors are poor, but they can share data between themselves and other warships to increase effective sensor resolution. All analysis suggests that although they can handle smaller vessels, those of the same weight class are likely to win an engagement. And considering their low numbers, they are likely to perform sub-par."

She returned to her seat, allowing Azunn to finally get a chance to talk. "Thank you to my colleague. In light of this information, I feel that although the Norb representative is well intentioned, they are perhaps overestimating the capabilities of the pirates. Although this represents an unwelcome surprise, it is likely that maintenance and keeping these warships supplied has been a difficult task for the enemy."

"Thank you, I will now present this resume to our captain in an in-person meeting," Bobby said. "If you will please excuse me, I will get back to you once there is an update in the application process."

He casually knuckle-walked away, quickly reaching Solaris. "Captain Veila, I apologize for the interruption but have a matter which I wish to discuss with you," he said. "I have forwarded you the resume of a culinary specialist which Maros and I encountered, who is currently seeking employment. If you would be so kind as to peruse it at your leisure, it would be an appreciated gesture."

Linda couldn't really get out of Hrof's grasp while his suit was in strength mode, but he did let go as soon as it was evident that she was standing on her own feet. She couldn't see his face through his helmet, but if she could, she'd see he was rather confused at both her look towards him and her comment about the robots.

"The robots are not after us; unless they switch targets, they are not my concern" Hrof answered her in his usual neutral tone as his suit switched back to armor mode. "The safety and health of captain Solaris' crew however, is" he added in a very matter-of-fact tone, turning his attention towards wherever the golems were now.

"Therefore, I would highly suggest that we leave before being caught in any more collateral damage of this... Scuffle" Hrof said, pausing at the end as he almost said 'battle' or 'fight', but even to him those words just didn't quite seem right for this.

Meanwhile, Ligia was still just hiding down in the chocolate bath, feeling the need to surface for breath getting uncomfortably closer and closer.

[Filanticu Choco-Con's Famous Choco-Baths]

Linda caught the towel thrown to her. "Best idea I've heard all day!" She said to Erruan, before wrapping the towel around herself and scampering out of the bath. She paused by Hrof's side. "Isn't eliminating the only threat the best way to ensure the crew's safety?" She shook her head. "Whatever! Doesn't matter!" She was going to run away, but hesitated, looking back at the small building behind the choco-baths. "My fuckin' stuff's still in there!" She said. Then she cast another glance at the golem and sprinted across the street, deciding that she could live without pants for a little while longer if she had to.

Filantacu

"You - who - what?" Solaris groped about for the proper response to Bobby, all the while never taking her eyes off the ensuing scene of nonstop ridiculousness.

The Golems continued rolling over to Ligia, slowing as they neared the baths. The thick, bubbling fudge obscured the Nisi from the robots' sensors. Both rolled to a halt, communicating with each other in that silent robot language of theirs. One leaned in close to the bath and dropped it's arm into the chocolate, poking around and trying to grasp Ligia through blind groping.

Solaris might have breathed easier after that. It was clear the Golems had no interest in anyone besides the cat person. Might have, except another problem arose from the previous one. Ligia crashing into their corral had startled the cows. Golems whizzing by and people shouting and running only made them even more jittery. One started to hightail it away from their enclosure, no longer enclosed courtesy of one flying Nisi. Another followed, then another, and another. Soon the whole herd of cows was running and mooing down the street, heading for Solaris and Bobby.

Bobby took a step forwards to put himself between Solaris and the herd of cows. "It appears that I must now sacrifice myself to shield you from an approaching herd of stampeding bovines," he said to Solaris. "In the event of unit termination I have left a subroutine in the ship's systems that will forward any pertinent information - and last paycheck - to an approved representative of the Norb Network. The self-paced tutorial I have left will allow my replacement to acquaint themselves with the ship's non-standard systems. It has been an honor working with you, Captain Veila, but now you must head to safety."

He turned around to face the cows, but rotated his head back to look at Solaris.

"I have also left schematics and a bill of materials for an upgraded seat warmer for the Captain's Chair."

Jenny let out a long sigh. "Oh, for the Maiden's sake! Can't I just have a vacation? She's right over here," she said to the golems, pointing a hand at the other end of the bath. She used two of her legs to try and prod the cat-woman-person-thing-alien.

An ancient, and now-public-domain, Santana Song began to gently play from Bobby's speakers, targeted towards Solaris.

"I will retrieve your belongings; get to safety" Hrof told Linda, then moved towards the building she'd indicated to look for her stuff, making sure to give the golems a wide berth.

Inside the bath, Ligia could not see, and could only sort of hear the Kuhneebo's comment; but she definitely felt the two feet prod her, and reacted with the best plan she could come up with in her current state of panic. She moved suddenly, grasping up at the Kuhneebo in an attempt to pull her under the chocolate.

Angrily blowing bubbles out of her ears, she twirled a little bit around to build up some motion in her other feet, and used them to initiate what was probably the first chocolate-submerged Kuhn-Nisi slap-flight Heiwa had ever seen.

Filanticu Chocolate Convention — With Rosemary and Maros

Rosemary simply watched as Bobby knuckle-walked off with her resume. She and Maros were about to follow him when a large ruckus began to occur nearby. Rosemary and Maros turned towards the source of the sound— a whole herd of cattle, heading right for them.

Rosemary shrieked, diving for the sides of the road, while Maros backed off and stood in front of Rosemary to shield her from the cows. Hopefully the stampeding bovines would ignore them.

Tranquility Rhizon Embassy — With Rhizon Vei

"The pleasure is all Ours, Mr. Blue," Rhizon Vei replied with a smile on her face. "This one returns your wish. It wishes you a pleasant evening as well, Mr. Blue. Farewell," she told him with a coquettish wave and a wink. She then sauntered back over to the Rhizon embassy, staring at one of the plants in the corner to send the details of the contract to the Collective. She had realized that in her time at the station, she hadn't explored all that much. She would seek to rectify that. Exiting the embassy, she sauntered down the hallway, not caring who saw her. She was certainly attracting a lot of attention, and quite a few pairs of eyes were on her as she walked. On one hand, Rhizon Vei liked the attention. However, every fiber of her connection to the Collective dismissed them as Other-scum. It didn't quite sit right with her.

Despite the danger the situation presented, the sheer absurdity of it all was actually producing a calming effect on Solaris.

"Where did you even find this music?" she shouted at Bobby before noticing the slap fight at the baths. Which drew her eyes to the Golems, the source of this whole mess, that only drew her eyes to the Caroline crew members nearby.

"Take us over there to the others!" She said, pointing at the robots.

Meanwhile the cows were continuing their rampage down the street. Hitting stands and whatever vehicle stuck in the road in their way. Most of the people around the judging panel had enough sense to run away, but a few seemed lost over just where to run to.

Ligia could only hold her breath for so long, but fortunately, it felt like the other person had been submerged into the chocolate bath as well; she could've gone without said person trying to slap the crap out of her though.

She finally broke the surface of the chocolate, gasping deeply for breath even as she swung her arms about, trying to gain herself some personal space. She couldn't really see what with all the chocolate, but she knew the golems must still be nearby; her best chance as she could figure was hoping they couldn't tell the difference between her and the other bath attendant while they were both covered in chocolate; that said attendant was a Kuhneebo with easily distinguished extra limbs was knowledge Ligia could've done well to know sooner.

Erruan was hot on Linda's heels. She only spared Hrof the briefest of glances; he seemed to be able to handle himself, and the priority had remained firmly the same. "I have no idea what that means." Solaris said with a shake of her head. "Just keep running!"

When they got close enough to be heard over the general ruckus Solaris shouted at Linda and the security team, "Other way! Go the other way!". She pointed at the advanced herd of cows for emphasis. She saw the Golems but did not even notice the Nisi until she came up from beneath the chocolate.

For that matter, the Golems could not find Ligia until she came up from beneath the chocolate either. Once she did though, the one closest to her grabbed the feline alien by her torso. Grasping firm enough to keep Ligia from escaping, but not hard enough to crush her already damaged ribs, the Golem moved away from the chocolate baths with captive in hand.

That would have been the end of it were in not for the fact that the second Golem, under the assumption that Jenny was an accomplice, grabbed her too.

She wasn't sure if he'd head that part, as he'd already disappeared by then. Noticing Erruan next to her, she opened her mouth to say something snarky, but was interrupted by the hellish clatter of a bovine stampede. Linda stared, dumbfounded, as the herd charged in her general direction. Luckily, Erruan was there get them both to cover, and the process, Linda was lifted clean off her feet for moment. "Mila!" She said, startled by the sudden movement. A moment later, she glanced around their impromptu cover at the cows as they trampled their way through the choco-con. Tranquility - GN Conference Room

"Your postulates are what we have gathered to be most likely, Ambassador." Seo said to Azunn. "In fact, our best guess as to why we have only noticed them now is that Black Phalanx just did not have the resources to get them out and about until recently. We never saw them because there was nothing to see."

"They could have been holed up in some asteroid for the last ten years for all we know." Summed up the Snailian ambassador.

"That still doesn't answer her question." Zelophehad said.

"I was getting to that!" Seo snapped, casting an ugly glare at Zelophehad. "As I was saying, we know from Kaladian records that they did not make many of these ships, about forty, if I remember right. We also know that all the ones they did complete were sent out to Arrowette, where the fleet was defeated. The remainder were then lost at Neandar.

Arrowette and Neandar. Everyone in the room was already familiar with the twin battle that had destroyed any meaningful space forces Kaladia still possessed at that point in the war. Pressed from all sides, Kaladia's last ditch effort had involved sending the entirety of their largest fleet to defeat the Galactic Nations forces advancing from one side, then send it back to the other front, where it would meet the remaining Kaladian space forces and attack a second coalition fleet already heading their way.

The plan had gone wrong from the very start. The Kaladian fleet failed to claim victory against the first coalition force, losing decisively at Arrowette. The gloom of the hasty retreat was tempered by the hope that by rendezvousing with the second fleet, they could still pull out a miraculous victory against one of the advancing coalition fleets before they also joined together. That hope was dashed in the Neander System, a lifeless collection of rocks orbiting a white dwarf that had no importance except for it happened to be where the Kaladian fleet needed to go before they proceeded further, and thus it was where the second coalition fleet, moving much faster than anticipated, intercepted the surviving Kaladian ships from Arrowette. The fleet was destroyed. Kaladia's remaining ships thereafter avoided engaging the Galactic Nations in a fleet battle, not that they had much of a fleet after that. The war ended five months later.

"The thing is, the number of ships that were counted leaving the Arrowette System did not match the number encountered Neander." Seo explained. "All reports from the leaders present at the time were of the opinion that the difference was due to malfunctioning ships being scuttled or destroyed because of internal damage. There were bits of wreckage found in the systems the Kaladians use as a route between the battles, and if they were destroyed in FTL space then the wrecks were as good as lost out in the void. The simple truth is, we all thought these ships were destroyed in those last battles."

Ligia struggled at first; a mostly instinctive response to suddenly being grabbed and lifted off the ground without her consent. She kicked and clawed at the golem's arm for a moment, before reigning in her instincts and wiping away at the chocolate on her face enough to see what she was doing. And more importantly, think about what she was doing.

She almost started tearing at the golem's arm again in an attempt to get at the circuits and motors inside, to disable it. Almost. But, Ligia managed to stop herself as she thought of what the golem might do with its other arm while she did that. The thought of going to Heiwan jail, or whatever is it they did to punish criminals around here, was bad; the thought of having any number of her limbs and/or organs crushed into paste by an angry robot, was worse.

But Ligia was still a Nisi, so she was not content to just lay back and accept her punishment, so she did the next best thing she could do instead: Whine. She felt like whining anyway. Her mouth opened up and let out a high pitched wail as she struggled about a bit more. "STUPID BIRD PLANET WITH STUPID HUMAN ROBOTS! LIGIA WANT TO LEAVE!" Ligia continued in her cries.

Meanwhile, Hrof had not heard Linda's request about the chocolate, but he was not stupid. That said, he did not currently wish to take the time to find somewhere to rinse his armor off, then the time to do said rinsing; he settled for grabbing a nearby towel and quickly drying off the wet areas. A bit of dry chocolate residue would probably still get on Linda's things, but he at least wouldn't be dripping wet chocolate into it profusely. After gathering the engineer's belongings from locker A23, Hrof headed outside, seeing the Nisi and Kuhneebo getting hauled away by the chocolate golem-robots. Being a Grexian, Hrof felt a tiny bit of subconscious, smug satisfaction at seeing the two aliens' fate, (Though perhaps a little more than subconscious in Jenny's case.) but for the most part Hrof kept his neutral professionalism as he scanned around the scene further to see the rampaging cows and Captain Solaris riding on Bobby's shoulders.

"Captain!" Hrof yelled simply and waved one arm, to just make her aware of his position.

"Yes, yes it does," said Erruan, the frustration evident in her voice making a fine substitute for the lack of emotion her helmet betrayed. Peeking back out of the alley, she called to Solaris, "Meet us back at the ship! Perhaps Hrof can stay with you!" She felt that it was important to have at least one member of the security team with the others so that they weren't wandering about by themselves.

Returning her attention to Linda, she said, "Keep very close to me. We're going to loop back to the ship now to regroup. If you can't keep up, then I'll carry you. If I tell you to do something then do it. Go on my mark." She barely left any time for Linda to respond as she began looking out of the alleyway again. "Mark!"

Not possessing a Concom, Solaris had an unreasonable fear of sticking things into her eye, the captain took the second option and yelled in Bobby's ear.

"Hrof! You and the others get out of there before you get run over! Do not break anything, for the love of God! These people are crazy about foreigners damaging their stupid pretty stuff!"

They were also liable to just arrest anyone in the area after a mess as big as this one. Stupid over-eager bird people. Solaris' first goal was to stay alive and keep her crew alive. Her second was to get away as soon as possible so they did not have to deal with security.

She could hear Erruan shouting and waved to indicate that she had heard. "Take us to the docks!" she yelled at Bobby again.

The golem paid no head to Ligia except to shake her a bit in some oddly programmed attempt to calm her down. The one being eaten by Jenny did not seem to notice that it was being consumed. Every time she took a decent chunk out, the chocolate reformed itself to cover the exposed golem.

Now there were sirens. The cows were coming.

Tranquility - GN Conference Room There was a few moments of pause as the translators of each person in the room searched for suitable substitute in their own languages for Capri's idiom. Murmurs of agreement turned to light chuckles after Azunn's quip.

The rest of the afternoon was spent drafting the resolution that would be sent to all the participating states. Much debate went into how precise or how open the wording should be. More debate on the order of precedence for each item of discussion raised. The last hour was a debate over whether "inalienable" or "unalienable" was the correct word to use in a certain sentence.

At long last they had the rough draft of a document. Calling it a day, the group disassembled, only to reassemble at the restaurant across the street. Long debates make people hungry.

Seo was talking to his immediate neighbor, comparing the food they had just received with that he had sampled during his travels. Those who had never met him before would find that he came alive when food was involved.

"Wine tasting? Not going. The stuff they sent last time was poison anyway."

"I am taking a walk."

The business in the Verandi lord's office came to a halt at the surprise announcement. "My lord, are you -" One secretary started to say but Tebigon cut her off with a wave of his hand.

"I need some fresh air. I shall be going alone." He said loud enough so that the security guards outside the office could hear. Taking his leave, Tebigon exited the building, coattails flying. Turning from the grand street to one of the smaller districts, the noise and smells struck him like a sudden jolt of life. Flashing lights and speakers hawked goods and services. Restaurants, salons, specialty stores competed to overwhelm his senses. Tebigon hated such gaudiness most of the time, but right now it was a refreshing change of pace.

He stopped in front of one building in particular. The words KARAOKE flashed in hologram displayed from all over the front. A small smile flickered across Tebigon's expression as old memories of younger, more rambunctious days surfaced. Those cheesy songs, that drunken revelry, ah to be young again.

"However, archival data from Norb frames who have eaten the dish you are discussing rate the spiciness as two tetrahedrons, and a hypercube. That is significantly above average."

"If you do not enjoy the presence of such extreme levels of spice in your dishes, I suggest you visit the Sushi Goat when given an opportunity," he added. "The food is self-spiced by end-users who add wasabi to their own dishes, allowing you to have mild, medium, or any other level of intensity you desire."
