Yeah, I know it's a lot harder than French. But I figure I might as well try. Who knows what will happen?
And I don't read manga mainly because I find the backwards format annoying. And besides, I don't read western comic books either (with the exception of Watchmen)
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI just think there's no point in saving shows to watch later. Your interests will change, or you won't have time, or you'll just forget about them. There's always going to be new good stuff, and the backlog will grow and grow until it feels like homework instead of entertainment. If something looks interesting, just watch it. You don't have to learn Japanese if you don't want to, and if you do want to, this doesn't have to be what you start with. It can be a preview, or just something unrelated that you like.
But I never have time anyway.
I don't know, maybe I will give in and just watch LWA, but I don't know why it's so important.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayFantastic Mr. Fox is a phenomenal movie.
I should look into more Wes Anderson movies as well. I've liked what I've seen from him.
Well, I didn't particulary care for The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, but I was much younger when I watched it, so I dunno.

Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.I wasn't mainly talking about LWA with the language topic, Story. I meant anime in general and only brought up LWA because that's what started this conversation.
It just seems like I never have enough time, so it's hard to tell whether LWA is so awesome that I should watch it anyway.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayWell it's not a Shakesphere masterpiece or anything, but I had a decent amount of fun with it. It's kind of like if you mixed FIM with the early Harry Potter books {Before they got all serious and gloomy}.
Nah man, it's not important. That's why everyone's making such a big deal about it! This is TV Tropes, after all.
In other news Re Life is freaking awesome. Most of the first episode left me feeling cold because it kept ruining dramatic scenes with badly timed "funny" stuff. But everything after the twenty minute mark of the first episode is pure, character-driven, comedy gold, with some seriously heavy dramatic stuff mixed in too.
There will be hell to pay if there's no second season.
If you get the chance, read the Re Life manga too. You won't regret it. It's so dang good.
"That's a to-go order. See! It's already gone!!"I'm kind of torn on whether I should or not. On the one hand, I typically like seeing these things in anime form for the first time better than the manga if the adaptation is faithful. On the other, there is no guarantee that there will ever be a second season, and I can't just drop this story. I have to know how it ends!
I get ya, I get ya. There's also the question of just what the anime will adapt, like how far into the story will the adaptation get. Some get a rush job anime bulldoze through the manga, I remember Magi cruised through 100 something chapters in only 20 something episodes.
"That's a to-go order. See! It's already gone!!"From what I hear, this one did a 100+ chapters in the thirteen episodes we got. I wonder how much was cut. The story didn't feel like it was missing anything. You can usually tell, like with Nausicaa and Akira. Good movies, but when you watch them, you just know that you're only getting a fraction of the story.
Then there's stuff like Death Note, where the just cut all the padding.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI guess I'll add that to the list then.
As far as watching stuff with subtitles or not, my personal experience is that I enjoy things most when I'm watching them just for enjoyment rather than for some ulterior motive. I mean, if watching it helps you learn Japanese or something, that's great, but I feel like I wouldn't be able to enjoy it as much as I would otherwise if I was being distracted by trying to pick up the language as I was watching it.
In other news, I have arrived in Kansas and spent the day eating way too much. Now I am going to bed.

Of course, there's always the reverse and they run out of material and you get filler.
This song needs more love. The ideal case is where you can watch something for enjoyment and practice language skills at the same time.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayYeah, from what I've heard they cut out a good bit and most likely rushed things along to maintain that 13 episodes for Re LIFE. I was looking through an anime discussion about the last episode and I was plain shocked when I found out what arc they ended it on which I think, and in the current manga we're about 33 chapters ahead of that arc which isn't a ton when it comes down to it.
Like with Sousei No Onmyouji, there's a ton of filler for a manga that's not very long at the moment.
"That's a to-go order. See! It's already gone!!"And then you have stuff like Bleach, which had so much damn filler that it eventually led to the anime getting canceled.

And then there's Naruto, man am I glad I decided to read the manga instead of re-watch the anime. I had no idea that that first anime didn't end at Sasuke's departure. They spent 83 episodes of filler after that arc before they finally started Shippuden.
Fairy Tail and One Piece are on the other side of the spectrum, in that they usually treat their fillers a bit better. With the exception of the two Fairy Tail filler arcs that probably weren't that good. Not counting those their filler mostly come from omake chapters.

"That's a to-go order. See! It's already gone!!"so i saw that Life is Strange was on sale for just 10 bucks, so I decided to buy it.
I know virtually nothing about the game other than the teacher is the killer(?) and there might be a tornado involved. also time travel i think.
anyway, i guess i'll liveblog the game here since i know a few people on here absolutely love the game.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-Mae^Send Scott a PM about it. He's the one here who loves that game.
so, uh, this game is definitely a tad too in-depth to do a live commentary on.
but it's definitely making me consider my options, and this game definitely just feels real.
really upset that i got spoiled on what i did, though.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeThose darn unclean spoilers. Ah, darn them. Gosh darn them all to heck.
I wouldn't mind a text let's play of a game I will probably never get to. But if not, I will probably have time coming up this month to finish off those comics.

A short story I wrote a couple of months ago was just rejected by another Magazine. Bummer.
Still, the editors were kind enough to give me a brief review, and they mentioned that they actually really enjoyed the story. Their main complaint was that the setup felt too long for a Short Story, which is pretty low on the scale of issue severity(And is fair enough since the majority of the story was built around suspense and setup), and they encouraged that, "with some tweaking, it could make a fun novel".
So, I'll find somewhere else to submit it to in the meantime, but that's definitely something good to bear in mind. I was thinking of starting up another story to try and sell soon, and I'll have to remember to be more direct and focused about it.

French is one thing, but Japanese is a whole other game. I mean, more power to you if you wanna learn, but I don't suspect it'll be as fast as you learned French.
