Until yesterday, I was feeling better than ever, due to a newfound interest in video game videos with commentary, as well as L Ps. Unfortunately, when I finally got around to recording a video of an actual playthrough, I was so displeased with my commentary that I lost much of my excitement. You see, what happened was that I found my commentary to be far too matter-of-fact, obvious and monotone, and therefore stunningly boring for most normal people. It doesn't help that I also perceived that commentary as soulless and devoid of personality.

If anyone can understand portuguese, view my channel intro for an idea of how I sound. I also have some snippets of failed attempts at commentary that I can put up on Mediafire or something if people want.

So there. I need help in becoming more expressive while commenting and talking alone...

True, it does sound quite factual rather than enthusiastic, but I don't view that as a bad thing at all; quite the contrary, it gives you a touch of professionalism. If that is the way you naturally speak, stick to it and build upon that. Don't try to force enthusiasm that may come across as insincere and put-on in the end.

Have you taken a speech class or public speaking class in svhool? Those are helpful with figuring out how to vary tone and project your voice. Just think of it as talking to an audience instead of a screen. Put your personality into it!

[up]Never really took them, but people seem to think how I speak is alright. As for the video, I'm not forcing myself or anything, that's pretty much how I naturally speak.

I agree with Tape (I don't understand Portugese at all, so I'm going strictly be your delivery, here). You sound very good. It's not flat or monotone, there's a great deal of pitch and tone variance, and some nice speed variance as well. It sounds quite professional. The delivery is smooth, and sounds very natural; the timbre of your voice is pleasant.

Yeah, I'm not hearing any monotone either. Your voice sounds fine to me.

You aren't quite up to the narrator of this piece, but you're miles more interesting to listen to than the narrator of this.

Since I'm Portuguese, I can say the way you speak our language is quite clear, so for factual stuff you're practically spot-on.

In order to avoid sounding less monotone, why not trying an emphasis on certain key words relevant to the game, or thinking of the camera and the screen as other people you're talking to face to face?

Also, try practicing. It certainly helped when I had to do a couple of radio shows.
