Nal Hutta. A planet-sized den of thieves home to smugglers, pirates, and other criminals the galaxy would prefer to forget about. Decaying urban environments and hutt palaces are scattered across the infinite wasteland, as countless souls try to make it through another day in the harsh environment. The city of Ishtaas is one such den, the rising sun illuminating the gas clouds that hung over the streets.

The Rough Rancors, formerly a mercenary outfit with a decent reputation - formerly - has been reduced to a baker's dozen of men and women, most of them just hired today. While not completely bankrupt, they've been forced to find more humble accommodations. A broken-down garage that had belonged to one failed crime lord or another was all they could afford. It had some perks, namely that the large interior had parking space for at least three dozen landspeeders, though right now it was empty save for several military cots; the water, air, and heat all worked; and the brothel and spice den that had been hidden in back now provided several rooms of varying size.

In one of the larger rooms, all of the new hires and one long-time employee were assembled near the door, as their boss sat behind a desk. One could only guess what the room had been used for before, but it was now his office. His bedroom as well, as the mattress over in the corner indicated. Behind him and with her back to them, Talanis was working away at a terminal on her own desk, dealing with some sort of data. Despite all this, he carried himself professionally. Somewhat. "Alright, first day on the job for most of you. Pretty exciting, huh? Well, that's enough for introductions, so if you haven't remembered each other's names by now, you sure will once you've been in a foxhole together. But for now, I've got great news: I lined you all up with a simple enough security job tonight. You hear of the pop singer Zoreynna? She's pretty big - well, not that big since we're being hired." A mute recording a twi'lek singer appeared on his terminal. "Point is, do a good enough job, impress her, impress her manager, and we'll be on the inside with her and her circle. Mess things up, and you're stuck shooting rapists in the slums for 30 credit bounties. No pressure. That's later tonight, though. Meet here a couple hours before dusk in fifty hours or so. Job pays 1410 credits each, and lasts just a few hours. For now, I've got three jobs for you to pick. That's right, doesn't matter who does what job as long as long as someone's making me credits. That's employee empowerment right there. I'll even let you make an informed decision."

True to his word, he brought up a few images on the terminal and began to explain them. The first set was a map of the surrounding area, with lines and circles drawing a path from the city to some place in the wastes out by a river. "First thing you should know is that Kelmo the Hutt's got a job opportunity for some mercs looking for quick credits. Got a chemlizard problem down at one of his mines, and he's shuttling anyone who fits into the bus there in about..." he looked at his watch, "thirty-seven minutes. Pays 74 credits per critter you take down. And cause I'm such a nice guy, I'll make you a deal. If one of you manages to shoot more of those things than anyone else there - leave a good impression with Kelmo's guys, make sure they know you work for me - you'll get an extra 129 credits."

He clicked a button again to close the map, and two young and undressed twi'lek women - one red, one blue - kissing each other as they rolled around on what looked like one of the beaches of Manaan appeared for a brief instant. They were quickly replaced by a map of the city as he pressed another button, casting a glance over his shoulder at Talanis, who was still working at her computer. "Whoa hey anyway, next job's simple enough. Extra security for a transport. Make sure no one steals what they're loading, shoot anyone who tries to knock it over, and then make sure no one steals that same stuff when they unload it. Pay's 591 credits, split between whoever takes it."

He tabbed to another display, and this time a bounty notice popped up, showing an ortolan. "And here's the last one. Contact I know at a cantina recognized a bounty from the posters, and I cut a deal with him. Go there, he'll clue you in with more information, he's got some holorecordings for you, and then you just have to find and bag the chump. Target himself is an ortolan named Nindo, says he's wanted for "crimes against the hutts", but what's important is Orleon wants him dead and pays well - you'll get to split 852 credits from the bounty. Get this done, and that means we've got a happy hutt who might hire us in the future."

Hob was slightly disappointed. He liked shooting rapists. But...that was neither here nor there. Hob was one of the few from the "old crowd" still left and his comrades' deaths still hurts.

"I'll handle the critter problem. Got plenty of practice shooting womps in Mos Eisley." he told his boss.

Nith considered the options laid out before him. While guard duty is fun and I arguably could make more money than anything else on the critters I think that having a friendly Hutt may be the most useful asset in the long term.

The nautolan frowned. That is assuming he doesn't betray us at some point. All the same though... Nith's smile returned to his face. "I will go after the bounty with anyone else who wants to go looking for him. Or by myself. Doesn't really matter."

The mousy-looking human woman standing next to Nith raised a hand and gave a shy smile, looking back and forth between him and Johnny. "I'd like to hunt the ortolan as well," she said quietly, one hand resting on her belt. "It's my kind of work." She turned and extended her hand to Nith, smiling. "Fera Dianiss. What's your name?"

It's been fun.

"Good, 'cause I don't exactly scream 'social person'," responded Jenns, leaning forward when the holovid of the two twi'lek came on. And then with a quick look, he realized that he'd seen in before. The former trooper sat straighter. "Anyway, I'll take the escort job. Bad guys think twice about robbing transports when the guy in the cab has a gun bigger than a Hutt hatchling."

Jenns reached and patted the huge package by his seat for emphasis.

"I think I'll take the truck. Lizards are no challenge and there are already too many on the same bounty." Kal said with her arms crossed over her chest.

Jenns turned to the female who carried herself in the style of the most feared mercenaries in the galaxy. You knew where you stood with the Mandos, he remembered wisdom from old campaigns, hard-won and passed down through the generations of troopers. Away from them.

But there was no sense in being impolite. "That means it's you an' me. Jenns. Amos Jenns."

"Res, Kal Res of the clan Res." Kalres responded coldly as she glanced at Jenns

"I trust you know how to aim that thing?" She than said and nodded at his package

Fera nodded, smiling over at Hiro as he introduced himself. "Good to meet you," she said, offering him a handshake as well. "So what do you guys specialize in? We can't all just go in and start gut-slicing people."

Towering over her, Jenns gave the Mando, Kal Res, a cold smile as he reached down and patted it fondly. The profile of the bundle radiated a dangerous kind of familiarity. "Like I was born with it."

In truth, the weapon was a rather recent purchase. An earlier incident had forced him to get rid of his black market Republic Repeater and only through hard bargaining had he been able to acquire a new weapon of roughly the same caliber. Unfortunately, roughly was the operative term. Especially when he opened the package and found he had to assemble the thing he bought. But, as the saying goes, beggars can't be choosers. And as of right now, Jenns was close to the begging bit.

Hiro smiled his innocent smile at Fera. "Well, I talk. Sometimes I shoot," he said, gesturing to his rifle, "but I prefer to talk. I can talk to distract, talk to weasel out information, or even..." he hesitated for a second. "Well, normally I'd pick you pocket right now to demonstrate, but I have a feeling it wouldn't work on you or end well for me. You're a bit sharper than most marks."

Nith continued to smile. "Crack shot, quick draw, all around anything you need done with a blaster I can do. Also I cheat, a lot." He should have told them about what he could do with the knife, but it helped to keep something in reserve.

Fera paused for a moment, then her smile widened, until she was positively beaming. "Sharper! I like that," she laughed. "I want to see that, though," she continued, her eyes dancing. "I've never been pickpocketed before. Does it still work if they know you're going to do it?"

As Nith explained his credentials, Fera nodded, impressed. "I'm not a very good shot, so that should be really helpful," she said, leaning in place to get a better look at Nith's holster. "Hoo, that's a piece of hardware! Ever made anyone's head explode?"

The gunslinger shrugged.

"A few, but generally speaking its a better idea to aim for center mass. Besides its hard to get headshots with a bar fight going on in the background." Nith gave her a once over.

"Nice equipment you've got there, and your weapons look good too."

"It can, in fact," said Hiro. "You see, it's all about misdirection. The technique you use when you pickpocket someone who knows it's going to happen is to make them think it's going to happen a different way. You make them focus hard on one thing, and then go a different route. Of course, it's much easier with a partner."

Fera smiled at the compliment, then reached down into her thigh pouch and pulled out a short, functional-looking carbon blade. "This is my best piece of equipment, though," she said modestly, holding it out on her hand to show Nith. "It's never once let me down. Never once."

Adriac coughs into his hand- remaining where he stood near the back. "The security transport sounds most apt for my ears." He felt his eyebrow twitch at the socialization of others then resigned himself. He had to get used to it. And keep reminding himself that no one knew who he was- or had reason to kill him. Yet. Sitting on top of a cargo box, a particular mercenary had stayed quiet all this time. A relatively new hire, the human woman stared with dark eyes at her gathered coworkers... sizing them up, hearing their words and aspirations after the job at hand was explained to them. So far, she had a good impression... the gathering was a little disparate but the people around seemed quite competent.

As for what they would see in her... well, she was fit, she was strong and limber. When she arrived at their base she was wearing her full Trooper armor which might have drawn a few gazes but at the moment she wore only loose camouflage green pants, boots and a black sleeveless top.

"Well, seeing as how the other jobs seem to be well under hand, I think I'll take pest control with hotshot here" says Laira, giving an approving nod to Hob before she extended her hand to him "Laira Orlan. A pleasure. I got an idea or two about this task if you don't mind me saying"

As the mercenaries discussed their plans, the terminal displayed the relevant information for the three jobs. Those with datapads or holocomms would be able to download the address as a file or message, respectively. Even without a portable computer, the locations were quite clear and simple enough to get to just by memory. For those planning on dealing with the chemlizards, they would need to meet at a lot outside of a warehouse about twenty minutes away by foot. The transport job's location indicated that it was at a factory in one of the more industrial areas of the city, and would require slightly more walking to reach. The cantina was about as far away as the warehouse, but in a different direction, heading towards one of the more populated, albeit poorer, areas.

"Ready to go?"
