I'm thinking of going back to something I never really managed to get off the ground, a deconstruction (in the actual sense, not TVT sense of subversion) of an old, obscure Broadway show called The Desert Song, which is about— well, look at its tropes!

Is this doable? It wouldn't just be a response to that show, but a general deconstruction of the rich "Arab Oil Sheikh" stereotype. (although the protagonist isn't an oil sheikh. He's also very young.) He is known as the Red Shadow (L'Ombre Rouge), though. And he's leading the Riffs of his own tribe, the Oulad Qamar, in battle in the Sahara desert. My idea is to take the plot, basic character types and some character names from The Desert Song and use them to comment on the subtexts of both desert romances and the original operetta.

What are some important things to remember when doing a critique of something else? .
