Mighty No. 9 - Spiritual Sucessor to Mega Man by Keiji Inafune himself

It's only in a Kickstarter phase right now, but I have no doubt that the fans will support this.

It actually looks pretty bad-ass. It's basically Mega Man in everything but characters and name.

I saw it it looks great the whole team behind it worked on Mega Man on the NES.

It appears to have hand drawn sprites. Not sure how I feel about that but it certainly does look like classic Mega Man.

Why are there eight evil robots but only six stages though? I get that it's probably an homage to Megaman 1 but it still seems weird.

Anyway I'll have to keep an eye on this.

Looks amazing and a beautiful spit in Capcom's eye.

Whats wrong with hand drawn sprites? Those are the best kind.

Hope he remembers to put in more female characters from the start.

Not that I think that will sink the game or anything, just for the sake of variety.

I don't know if the game itself will have hand-drawn sprites. Everything we see now is concept art.

It usually looks weird to me but I'll definitely get used to it.

I hope he doesn't get slapped with a lawsuit by Capcom. I'm all for a spiritual successor but he seems to be going out of his way to make a Megaman game without actually using the associated names.

Hopefully she isn't the only one. I'd like a few female Robot Masters or whatever they're called in this universe.

Yeah.

It looks like he took the Mega Manning concept, and turned it on it's ear.

I also noticed Not-Roll, and a girl who looked similar to that girl who was going to be in Mega Man Legends 3 as well.

You know, I'm kind of worried Capcom will sue because this game is virtually identical to Mega Man.

I see they're continuing with the theme naming. I wonder what the Protoman expy will get called.

Thorn: I know he's not using any trademarked characters but everything we've seen so far is basically Megaman while not being Megaman and he isn't even trying to hide it. Even if they don't have much of a case I could still see them harassing him out of spite.

Hmm... so it takes the classic Mega Man formula, and expands on it? Hmm... I wonder how that is. Looking forward to it. I'm a fan of the Classic series, in spite of only playing 3 or 4 games from it.I hope Capcom doesn't get asshurt over this, but then again they don't do much with Mega Man anyways.

...give me strength. These kickstarter rewards are too tempting.

A gold-colored costume for Beck? An in-game transformation that non-backers don't get? A plushie of one of the Mooks?

I kind of hope Capcom does give Inafune some shit over this and the fandom just completely destroys Capcom.

Also, a combination of Mega Man 1 and Mega Man 6's setups (industrial robots turned dangerous, and a robot tournament)

Hm, Tear Ring Saga, which was to Fire Emblem as this game is to Mega Man, did have to pay damages to Nintendo, but not for copyright infringement. Not sure what happened, exactly

Also, I'm kind of amused that after all of Inafune's big talk his next project is just to keep doing what he always had been

I do adore how he's expanding and growing the concept, though.

And have you guys played the sample of the game's main theme? It's amazing!
