So, I'll just get right to the point: The main element of Runes of the Arcanic is magic runes. The only source of magic is derived entirely from runes, though said runes can be made on anything and made to do anything. Here are the only rules of the rune system: The size & design affects the rune, runes are safer/easier to make when understanding what you're trying to do, and the runes always affects the world in some way to function.

So if you have a fire rune or ice rune, the resulting area becomes colder while a speed rune will always have the speed bonus as the object's default speed. Runes are a very specific, unpredictable magic so always be careful as the slightest derivation of that fire rune could make it an explosion rune.

Further with the world: Runes have been around for a long time that its considered a normal part of life. Nobody really questions where they came from, and runes are even used with science & technology to create a better world. Though, given the nature of runes the government keeps a close eye on all rune-weavers they know of and they have outlawed several types and/or applications of runes.

Runes dealing with creating life and resurrecting the dead are taboo when it comes to humanoids or making monstrosities. Additionally, rune-weavers altering minds or manipulating souls are considered criminals. The government tries their best to have runes seen positively, and have squads outfitted to fight rune-weavers or their creations.

Finally, the world takes place in current times. The size of runes decides their power while the design decides their specific effect. Another important part of runes is having intentions behind it, so just drawing shapes won't make a rune. Additionally, runes applied to organic life can often have nasty effects ranging from simple lack of bodily energies to death. One more thing, if a rune isn't fully designed to take something into account it can often have unexpected side-effects. Which is one of the reason life/death/mind/soul runes are considered dangerous.

  • Character Name:
  • Race: (Given rune madness, Humans aren't the only race. Just go nuts if you want, just remember all non-Humans are the result of runes)
  • Inventory:
  • Main Rune Usage: (You don't have to be a Rune-Maker, and this is just what kind of rune you'll use more often)
  • Bio: (Besides backstory, Appearance/Age/Gender/Job/Whatnot goes here and it includes if you have any runes etched on your body)

There's really no way to mess up the application. The only problems would be obvious ones, like two hundred feet tall soul-eating demons running for congress or characters who don't use the rune system to use magic. Beyond that, there's little I'll say no to. Heck, if your character is convincing enough I'll even allow players to be the main guy in charge regarding runic affairs world-wide.

Additionally, there's a constantly updating list of approved/official runes and given the presence of runes history is a bit different. Nothing too major, though you should probably ask first regarding majorish stuff.

Wait, you can't be a two hundred foot soul devouring demonic congressman? Dammit.

Well, not if they're permanently in that form. Really, just make anything you want and if I honestly don't think it can work at all I would probably say so. Even then I'll probably figure out a way it'll work.

Which Runes would be the most fitting for manipulating and reanimating dead flesh?

Probably Reanimation, Mind, and Soul-based runes. Though really, feel free to use any combination of runes to achieve an objective. Like, using Ice and Organic runes to make a super Snowlem. Though would they just be straight-forward reanimation or would they also be inscribed with other runes?

Inscribed with other runes sometimes, like creatures made as bioweaponry, spreading plagues or a giant flaming ball of corpses.

You probably want to study Organic Runes as well. So, any estimate on when the character will be done?

Why would he inscribe a Reanimation and Plague rune on his back? Additionally, what are the actual effects of said runes? Furthermore, since you mentioned a kingdom and he has a Reanimation rune inscribed on his body I take it he's kind of old? I would also like more information on these Charnal Legions.

The Reanimation is kind of a Failsafe, if he gets killed, the rune allows him to rise after a few days, the Plague rune allows him to exude an aura of sickness, a way to gain more bodies as well as giving him immunity to illness

As for the Charnel Legion, do you want like the types of creatures or, just a general overview?

Anything that would be important. Is this RP idea a bad one? I expected more people by this point.
