So there's a couple romantic subplots over the course of my story. One of the major ones happens to be a relationship one if the main characters has, which features two guys. However, I've noticed it has some 'cliche' aspects of the standard 'Romantic Comedy Plot' (boy meets boy, they don't like each other very much at first, they eventually become very friendly, but have some conflicts due to personal issues, but in the end, they make up) This isn't the main focus of the plot in the slightest, but still, could I get away with this?

Probably, considering most people get away with some cliché or another.

yeah you could get away with it, you could easily do it well, usually by having the personal issue be an actual personal issue as opposed to a misunderstanding, which is really what most Rom Com's actually do. (seriously an actual issue being the problem seems pretty rare in the fluff that has become the Romantic Comedy)

but of course that's assuming your focusing on them in a relationship as the major part of the arc, which it doesn't necessarily have to be. most of the tension could be at the boy meets boy part, either at them hating each other (Foe Yay perhaps?), or them having a friendship naturally evolve into romance.

or you could skip those steps entirely and have them hook up very quickly. again it just depends on what you want to focus on. is there a certain part your you wanna tell specifically, or do you wanna go the whole nine yards? since you said it was more of a subplot I don't know how much time an energy you focus on it.

I'm afraid I can't explain myself, sir. Because I am not myself, you see?
