Wack'd announces the opening of a new Welcome To Night Vale thread at the New Media topic, near the Webcomics. They would like to remind everyone that discussing Welcome To Night Vale is not allowed in the thread. People are not allowed to post in the thread. It is possible you will see hooded tropers in the thread. Do not approach them. Do not approach the Welcome To Night Vale thread. The link is electrified and highly dangerous. Try not to look at the Welcome To Night Vale thread, and especially do not look for any period of time at the hooded tropers. The Welcome To Night Vale thread will not harm you.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

So yeah how about that City Council? Always denying the various paranormal ongoings. Such Scamps

I think my favorite thing about the City Council is just how damn bad they are at what they do. I mean, yes, they're still menacing. They can make people disappear and are basically accountable to no one. But they're only menacing because anyone in this position could be. Given unlimited power over the populous, they fund pointless public works programs and try to summon dead rock stars. They barely attempt to cover up their mistakes, and their secret hide-out is public knowledge.

There are '80s kids show villains more competent than they are.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Still, gotta respect anyone who can just casually eat a solid brick. That's fairly impressive. If they have normal human teeth and jaws, anyway (and that is a big "if").

Honestly, I prefer not to picture the characters as being in any way supernatural. Which, yes, does make that instance particularly weird, but I stand by it. Giving, say, Cecil a third eye or crazy tattoos just doesn't sit right with me for some reason.

I'm mostly the same way, except for Cecil and the Librarians.

For Cecil, I do like imagining him with one paranormal trait (purple eyes that turn red when he's angry). Besides that, I just imagine him as a normal guy. I do imagine him with tattoos, but not tattoos that move or anything like that.

As for the Librarians, I think of them as humanoid half-hyena half-bat creatures that were once humans who weren't allowed to leave the library. I don't know why I went with that specific idea of their appearance, but there you go.

I do think imagining most of the citizens as looking entirely normal makes things funnier. Like when the mayor climbed up the side of the dog park, imagining her as a totally normal woman in a business suit who just happened to be able to go Spiderman was funny.

Yeah I like to imagine Cecil as a totally normal dude too. Most of the citizens probably have smaller oddities like slightly sharp teeth or odd eye colors.

I like the idea of tattoos, mostly because tattoos are normal and mundane, but can carry spooky implications, perfect for cecil.

I dunno. Cecil seems too straight-laced for a tattoo.

Maybe he got an embarrassing one in college or something, I dunno.

Maybe they're town mandated to pay tribute to the glow cloud.

Also I don't think being straight laced have stopped people from getting tattoos before.

I dunno. Cecil seems too straight-laced for a tattoo.

Dude wore a tunic and furry pants on a first date.

Also, I subscribe to the theory that, while Cecil has tattoos, he does not remember getting them. He just woke up with them on the morning after he officially became the Voice of Night Vale.

Out of curiosity, what do you envision Cecil's tattoos to be?

Personally, I imagine them as crop circles and tentacles up-and-down his arms, and eyes on the backs of his hands.

Hm, I do like the 3rd-eye-being-tattoo idea, but I like to think that's just fake and non permanent design he applies every day cause.

As for the other tattoos, I am woefully inadequate with figuring them out, but I do tend to default to the idea that he's got the intricate designs on his arms, so it's hard to figure out any one design at first glance.

Any tattoo'd eyes, I'd see on the shoulder blades or the back of the neck. You know, to scare off potential predators.

...It's funny that that's actually a genuine concern in Night Vale.

By the way, fun fact: the real Cecil Baldwin does have a tattoo of an eye on his chest.

Ahaha, seriously? Awesome. Honestly, I do have an enjoyment of dark skinned clean shaven cecil, but the actual guy who voices him is not that bad of a clash, of course, it sounds weird to say "yes, the man who provides the voice looks like he could have that voice."

I started listening to this today and I love it so far. Did this just become popular now? How long has it been around?

I don't know the exact timeframe. It's at least a year, given the whole one-year-anniversary episode they did.

According to the web Welcome to Night Vale had a spike in popularity due to the Hannibal fandom somehow.

Podcast about bizarre and often disturbing supernatural phenomena that is played for Dark Comedy, show about a cannibal whose eating of people is played for Dark Comedy...

Sounds about right.

[up][up]Well, it's just a guess on the writers' parts. They admit they have no real evidence to back it up beyond WTNV gaining popularity sometime into Hannibal's first season.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.
