The 4th series of The Great British Bake Off has started tonight!

Anyone else watching? For the unaware, it's a reality-TV baking competition credited with reviving the fortunes of baking as a hobby in this country. A total breakout hit, it's now become something of an institution despite its relatively young age.

So far, there's an interesting mix of contestants, some of whom I can see being very early candidates for the exit door. The first showstoppers are nearly finished, and there's some very ambitious projects already. It will be interesting to see the results.

Anyone else watch this?

I missed this weeks episode but I have watched it in the past. I don't really like Paul Hollywood much, but Mel and Sue make the show watchable.

I like it. Like most of the other people who like it, I don't understand why, but I do.

Hell of a turn around this week for Ruby after last week. Bread Week is usually indicative of the major talent in the series, so could well be the case that it was just nerves last week.

Definitely the biggest curb-stomp in the entire history of the show though in terms of the loser, possibly tied with episode 4 of series 1, when David forgot the eggs in a soufflé of all things.

That's physically hard to read. How the hell could anyone forget the eggs in a souffle and call themselves a cook?

I'm kind of sad for Lucy, I liked her in week one. This week she just didn't seem to be making an effort.

Really hoping that Howard gets kicked off sharpish. Boring fuck, way too much like Brendan and he's not even half as good.

Also a bit disappointing from Rob lately - his ideas are sharp but the execution keeps failing. Hoping that next week goes well as it theoretically should be great. More positively, Ruby and Kimberley have really stepped up their game. Clearly with the former it was just 1st week nerves as she's excelled every other week, and the latter at last got Star Baker which was great. All three should be top 5 by my reckoning, unless Rob's mishaps go too far.

Among those in trouble...Glen seems to be circling the drain for me, despite this week being the first in which he was either among the best or worst bakers. Frances absolutely has to stop going all out for style at the expense of producing tasteless crap or she's out soon. Becca I do not see lasting more than a month longer. Christine has also been highly variable, but she did well enough for star baker in week 3 so I'm not ruling her out.
