And yes, we need a much better reason than this.
For the record (since the OP seems to be a newcomer), disuse (insufficient usage) or misuse (wicks using it incorrectly; see also How To Do A Wick Check) are good arguments in favour of a rename.

For what it's worth, there are at least thirteen famous people named Chris Carter. It strikes me this trope has the same issue as Christie Time did.

The Chris Carter Effect is, well, a trope named after a character (er, creator?) which is very, very vague.
The trope refers to the tendency of works to not resolve plot points nor answer questions (see also Kudzu Plot).
The Trope Namer is Chris Carter from the X-Files.
I think it needs a rename.
