Actually, Putin is extremely popular in Russia.
Yeah, they want him. They keep voting for him. Makes his election rigging kinda weird and pointless, really.
We've talked about that in the Russian politics thread.
Oh really when? It'll last until the oil runs out.
Police Nationale raided an apartment with an arms cache with two men arrested for potential terrorist activities.
They met while they served time in prison.
What the hell....remember the attack on Borussia Dortmund? Well, the police made an arrest....some German-Russian who did it in order to make money at the stock exchange. Honestly, how sick can you be?????? Trying to kill someone just for that.
So we just had another islamic attack in Paris, just two days from the first round of elections.
Guys…please tell me this won't mean we are going to have a repeat of the US's elections.
Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.You try telling people "if you vote FN you'll give the terrorists what they want".
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.x2 I say this as someone who's lived through that election: Prepare to be disappointed.

Not sure how big the impact will be, but I think it was a good thing that the press reported very clearly that the goal of those attacks was to push the voters towards the FN. In general, people don't like to be pushed in a specific direction.
The suspect is named Karin Cheufri (Hope I got the name right), who served time for trying to kill PN officers.
On a slightly different note: I really have to praise the German press. They learned a lot from the Munich incident and didn't jump to conclusions this time around, reporting fairly calmly about the Borussia attack (unlike the English press). This did a lot to keep people calm until the facts were known, despite some right wingers naturally using the attack for their agenda. A similar reporting about the current attacks on police officers in France would be desirable.
Recently I kept thinking about an episode of Numbers. It has the following set-up: There is a serial shooter on the loose, and the police is unable to figure out if the attacker is even a good or a bad shooter. Until Charlie realizes that the shootings are some sort of trend...meaning that a lot of people decided to do their own murders like the shooter, either because they want to get away with it (Borussia) or because they have pent-up aggression and that is the inspiration to let loose, too (might be the case with some of the Police attackers in France). Well, in the episode they carefully figure out the copycats and are then able to find the original shooter based on the information which are left. But my point is: It is currently nearly impossible to say what are actual terrorist attacks and what is something else, and a lot of those attacks which do qualify as such are committed by people who don't have a direct connection to any of those terror organisations but are radicalized way more carefully.
Afghan army says a Taliban raid on one of their bases resulted in 140 dead,
AP Link. 10 or so taliban wearing stolen uniforms entered the base in what as described only as an "army vehicle" and attacked/detonated suicide bombs at the base's mosque during prayers.
Why am I not surprised that religious fundamentalists chose to attack during prayers...
Ahh, the hypocrisy, got to love how much the Taliban respect prayer hours.
Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.I don't have enough profanity left in me to hurl at these... individuals.
I can't even.
Scum.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Taliban released a statement and mentioned the attack is payback for killing most of their senior leadership.
Apparently some wild boars charged an ISIS camp and killed three militants. Even the wildlife hates ISIS. And they got killed by pork of all things, how ironic.

Alright, I try not to laugh at terrible things, but that deserves a mirthless chuckle.
If it's true, this is divinely ordained justice from Allah, and nothing/nobody can convince me otherwise.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. In Terrorist Caliphate, pork eats you!
Inter arma enim silent legesI can think of worse ways to go than being gored and trampled to death by a wild boar...but not many.
Disgusted, but not surprised
Putin however is a monolithic bloc, and rules Russia with an iron fist. What the Russian people want doesn't seem to matter much in international politics.
