Kinda confused about the Sphere Grid. Seems to be a lot of things Yuna can't learn at first even if I have the Spheres for them. Also can you teach anything to anyone?

Tidus seems pretty useless. His attacks aren't great, doesn't have good magic like Yuna or Lulu, and can't hit flying enemies like Wakka. His Overdrive seems to be the only thing going for him.

As you travel the grid you should be able to learn everything but those behind locked spheres which you need key spheres to open. Early on in the game it is stingy with ability spheres to unlock abilities though you might need to wait where you are till you get some or use a Distill Ability skill to force to get some if you are grinding.

Tidus is good vs quick enemies like the wolves, later on he becomes your time mage of the group with Haste and Slow as well as Quick Hit. Flee is also great as your only 100% escape move.

And yeah everyone can eventually learn everything but unless you are playing the expert sphere grid everyone is locked in their own section till you use a key sphere to break into someone else’s grid.

The thing with FFX is that, in the early game in general, there's two kinds of characters. Lulu, and people who fill space when Lulu isn't acting. tongue

@darkabomination: Sadly, while Alis was an absolutely awesome character, nobody in the games afterward could match her - and while I respect the desire in PSIV to lay down a well-executed Player Punch, I'd have liked to have another female main.

Interestingly, while she wasn't as heavy as Odin, Alis was the only woman in the franchise to be a "heavy fighter," using swords, shields and full armor. Future Lady of War types were ranged light fighters with slicers.

I despise hypocrisy, unless of course it is my own.

In many ways, the first PS was the most ambitious and greatest of the series, it's just a shame several games in that decade could never live up to the benchmark it did for the genre. And Alis is rarely given much recognition for how ahead of the game Sega was for the time. It's why I feel Metroid's kind of overrated in that respect, having fanservice as a tease at the end of her first game. Alis was never hidden on the cover, the manual, nor the title screen, several boys didn't seem to have any problems taking up the role of a revenge-driven confident girl in pink armor with a sword.

It's not much nowadays, but back in 1987, detailed character art and full sentences along with a reason for the hero/heroine beyond collect the crystals was cutting edge.

Well, no Phantasy Star game (at least in the original tetralogy; the online games are dead to me) can ever be accused of lacking ambition. But I agree that PSI is horribly underrated - though in its defense, it was on the Master System, and the Master System was horribly curbstomped in the Console Wars. Alis remains one of the most awesome heroines in gaming though.

That said, speaking of Metroid and Mother Brain, I want to give a shout-out to the later games in the PS series for how they averted A.I. Is a Crapshoot. "Robots are tools and work as designed, and they're only dangerous as a result of their programming" is very clever and consistent design.

I despise hypocrisy, unless of course it is my own.

Yeah, the whole mix of scifi and fantasy was a huge thing lifted from PS other games would adopt, and Alis's still a pretty cool heroine. Just wish she'd get more recognition for how ahead of her time she was, she could still teach RPG heroines a thing or two in wanting straight up revenge and none of the usual White Mage cliches. Velvet seems to take up that mantle, from what I've heard.

Still want a new mainline entry if Sega would be willing.

Completely different. Phantasy Star is a Science Fantasy turn based RPG that turned into a hack 'n' slash with the Online series, while Star Ocean is a Tales-style action game series that draws more heavily on the Sufficiently Advanced Technology side of Science Fantasy.

Oh man you really should play Wrath of the White Witch, it is so good. If P5 wasn’t on the PS 3 I would say it is easily the best JRPG of that generation and I am not even remotely joking on how good it is.

So, after finishing Nier Gestalt, I've started playing Persona 4 again. I never got to finish it so I'm starting from the beginning. I just finished rescuing Chie. I've also going to get back into Tales of Vesperia.

Bandai Namco Trademarks "Also Sprach Zarathustra" in the US

HD Xenosaga Trilogy remaster? Yes? Yes? YES???!

Don't get my hopes up for nothing you jerks!

Also if they could put it on the Switch, I'd appreciate it since I need to buy one anyway for Shin Megami Tensei V.

Or how about a PC port? I'm saving up for my first ever gaming rig. Maybe this is a sign from above.

Thank you, Yeshua.

Well, in Persona 4, I'm about to do the boss fight with Shadow Kanji, so I'm trying to get as prepared as possible.

I managed to beat Shadow Kanji in Persona 4. It was a pretty hard battle, especially with those two lackeys besides him but I managed to win. I'm glad I was able to win before the deadline.

So I'm wanting to make an RPG with RPG Maker MV. Issue: I actually have relatively little experience with the sort of JRP Gs that RPG Maker MV is designed to make.

As such, I'm wondering-what sort of games would you suggest playing to learn about the genre?

Why not start with something that's well known? Like Final Fantasy VII.

From what I know of RPG Maker, the games it makes are specifically designed after older JRPGs. I'd suggest either Final Fantasies IV-VI or Dragon Quest V.

Actually, I'd say bunk both of those. You're in a unique position of having little to no experience with what would typically come out of RPG Maker. Why not try and design a game you would want to play as is, at least at first?

I'd support [up]'s suggestion. Plus those FF's are getting old and it might make it hard to get into those nowadays. I never managed to actually enjoy FF 7 discovering it in 2014. Just focus on doing something you actually enjoy playing, that's already a lot.

Anyone here played The Alliance Alive? I can't find much info about the game, though the character designs remind me of Stella Glow.

Its trope page is...lacking.

So I just jailbroke a PS 3 finally. So I can play a lot of of the PS 2 and 3 RPG titles I missed. Any suggestions?

Shadow Hearts, one of the PS 3 Ateliers, Persona 5 just to see what all the fuss is about, and if it's good, Xenosaga looks neat.
