It depends, really. I don't see them getting any more mileage in the long term out of Hater eps. I see Wander/Hater more as deuteragonists/foils.
That being said, there was some amazing playing with tropes.
That was the funniest episode for me. so much work the animators went through to comebine pencils, spray, and digital. It's all so seamless.
So Hater has his very own Prison Pit, eh?
From The Void, one of my favorite episodes along with The Box.

It's spelled wrong on purpose [citation needed]So... the stinger at the end of The Rider. Who is it? My money is on Hater's Dad.
Click for more crappy pixel artNo... Wander's dad!
No... Sylvia's MOM.
Even if I had different face, I AM STILL DISGRACED.When Sylvia is talking about missing Wander in "The Rider", she says, "It's as if he's... magic." The tone of her voice and the expression on her face when she said that makes me wonder if Craig is going to reveal anything about our furry orange friend in season 2...
Same. If it turns out to be significant I don't get the impression Wander knows. I just caught up on a few episodes at once and I have to say, The Funk gave me legitimate warm fuzzies over the unequal and borderline abusive relationship between an evil overlord and his right hand man. Should I be concerned.
I'm glad the Funk wasn't all about how Wander keeps winning that puts Hater down this time. Also, it was nice to have Wander and Sylvia just pop in at the end thinking nothing ever happened here.
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceWell, we do know his hat is alive and possibly magical - like Felix's Bag of Tricks.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. No Argument There. Episodes like these do somehow manage to endear me to Lord Hater. Just a shame I bet we're not supposed to like him, despite how likable he is.
Even if I had different face, I AM STILL DISGRACED....about that. Here is what Craig McCraken said in an interview with Jim Hill in the Huffington Post:

Yeah, Hater is the fan favorite and crew favorite.
He's too childish and incompetent to not feel sorry for, and we're presumably going to learn more about why he is the way he is.
In that same interview, Craig basically confirms that they're working towards making Hater a more redeemable character, too.
bogleech.com for my writing, comics and cartoons.Maybe they'll introduce a straight villain who IS IN NO WAY appealing or identifiable, to help steer Hater toward redemption a bit. I don't think he should turn 100% good, because that will never be him, but we do have some sympathy for him.
I feel like that's going to be the type of character we saw in the stinger of "The Rider".
I still can't stop chuckling at how Lord Hater is wearing sneakers.
When you wish upon a side of beef, soon will come an end to all your griefEven if he sticks to villainy, Hater has a very strong classic cartoon villain vibe, where the focus is as much as if not more on him than the good guy. Kind of a Wile E. Coyote sort of feel.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I just watched two episodes yesterday, and found myself laughing. Not just smiling, or thinking, "that was clever". I'll be keeping an eye out on my channel guide for this show in the future.
(Lonely Planet and Brainstorm, The Gift 2 and 1)
Gift 2 was awesome. Rewatching it was just as fun as the first time but Gift 1 was weaker due to the change in soundtrack. The music was obnoxious but I still like Gift 1.
Dumb snowflake... bein' flaky...
At some point Wander is going to say "grasshopper", Hater will first think he's mocking him, then consider that perhaps Wander does have a lot to teach him, and finally notice that Wander was talking to a passing bug all along.
"Show us the Galaxy Warp."Don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but I think this show should be the page image for something. Maybe Freeze-Frame Bonus, or White Void Room.

Current WVR source is a better match to the concept of actually having a room that only seems voided.
"Show us the Galaxy Warp."
Hater works much better than Wander for a main character.
