So, having heard the buzz about this game actually being quite good if you're patient, I picked it up as soon as it became a flash sale during this Steam Summer Sale.

I did not regret it. It's especially good if you've got a setup where you can use a 360 controller and kick back and relax a good distance from the screen. It produces the same kind of effect that playing a more conventional driving game on a forgiving track with low difficulty settings does - no worries, no tension, just you, some music of your choice, and the open road.

Heh, I'm intrigued by how engaging this truck sim appears to be. At least Giant Bomb made it look interesting, anyway.

So I'm basically playing a game where I do a job similar to what I once did in real life, except without the decent pay?

Yeah, gonna pass.

So, I bought this game way back during the Steam Holiday Sale for around $6.24. I didn't get around to playing it until recently, when I randomly decided one day to attach my grossly underused Logitech Driving Force GT to my computer to try out some of the driving simulators lying around it. As of now, I've put in around 15 hours into the game according to Steam, and perhaps more than I expected, it turned out to be a pretty engaging experience. Who knew that driving around Europe carrying out boring delivery jobs turned out to be kinda interesting?

Currently, I'm on Level 10 with 3 trucks, 2 of them being taken by a couple of people I've hired, and one of them being driven by me, and around 23% of the game's map covered. I've also maxed out my Long Distance stat (which means I can get jobs that can take me pretty much anywhere in the game's rendition of Europe), and am working on trying to level up my Ecodriving skill.

The game also just got updated with new traffic AI and some other additions like Oculus Rift support and some truck improvements. I get the feeling I'm gonna play this for a while, with or without mods.

I rarely play this. I'm currently in debt and my truck is badly in need of repairs. Paris is the nearest city I can have it repaired, meaning I have to go back to the direction I came from (I started in London; my destination is Prague).

I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.

Did you get into that situation before or after the patch came in?

If you continue your game now, after the patch, your job (if any) will be canceled and you'll be transported to your nearest garage from your position. From there, you could probably go to the mechanic and have your truck repaired.

Alternatively, why not use the towing service accessible in the truck's GPS unit thing? Press F7, then Enter, and then someone will be able to tow your truck to the nearest city for a fee.

Reviving this thread to let people know that there's a multiplayer mod being made for this game, and it's currently in Open Alpha. You can get it here. It's a separate exe file that you have to install.

It's been a year, and the game has received at least one other expansion since then: the Scandinavia expansion. I waited until the recent Steam Sale to buy it as part of a bundle with a bunch of paint jobs and a cargo pack. I figured this would be a good time to get back into the game after months away from it.

Also, American Truck Simulator is coming next month on February 3. Anyone looking forward to that one too? I know it's been a long time coming for that game since it was revealed years ago.
