The show's got a slight flashback structure, as well as pushing forward the ongoing plotlines for various characters, we also get flashbacks to a new character's past life every episode (though not as heavily as something like Lost did).

Aside from a slightly goofy plot-line involving a (supernatural?) chicken, I'm really loving the show, and I'm seven episodes in. Check it out.

Did I mention Kate Mulgrew plays an angry Russian kitchen chef called Red?

Edit: Other things I love: that the nicest guard is by far the most bigoted. He's really, really nice and really, really homophobic. This is somehow hilarious.

Queer and racial visibility. There's a lot. This pleases me.

It's funny. Very much so. Sort of classic Weeds era funny. (Which makes sense, given the pedigree).

Hey, I've actually read the book that this was based on. I'm kind of tempted to watch it and see how they match up.

Was there a supernatural chicken in the book?

I just finished that episode. That chicken is fucking evil.

P.S. Anyone thinking about giving this show a chance really needs to check out the 3rd episode. The pilot's important for setting everything up, but the third episode is very, very good tv.

Just got to episode nine. I take back what I said about Healey. He's fucking creepy.

It's interesting how it's taken the show until episode seven or eight to have strong villains emerge. Christian Meth Girl isn't working for me, she's a bit too Weeds in her villainy. You know, too scary to be goofy, but too goofy to be scary. You know she'd kill if she could get away with it, but she just pulls stupid hazing pranks — not even very good ones — and is generally pretty dumb, but in a scary deluded way sometimes. The only reason she didn't kill Alex in that washing machine was because she didn't think of it, not because it wouldn't have worked anyway.

The other two are frequently quite scary though.

Hoy shit that ending.

Also, completely take back everything I said about Pensyltucky. She ended up being fucking terrifying.

Hmm, should this actually be in New Media, technically?

Anyway, I've watched two episodes, and I'm a lot more interested then House of Cards. Which I just couldn't get into.

I considered that, but it'll get more traffic here.

This series was amazing. I'm impressed by how it manages to humanize pretty much every character and yet make them awful people when they need to be without derailing them. Yes, most of the inmates are basically decent human beings, but they can also be driven by selfish needs and petty grudges and prejudice.

The only exception is Pornstache. I really, really hated him early on, but eventually realized that he was absurdly cartoonishly evil, and he seemed out of place amongst the rest of the cast. By the time the show put any effort into making him a person I'd just stopped caring.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Yeah...the ending got pretty dark. I really wasn't expecting that.

Also, am I the only on that enjoys the little ending tunes? Like at the end of the episode where the Christian Meth Girl says that she's going to get back at Piper: "There ain't gonna be no sequel..."

It just made me stop and blink, because seriously...woah...

Plot twist for season two: Pennsatucky gets a new set of teeth and ends up being grateful to Piper.

Really love the show but I don't think I've ever disliked a group of main characters so much (the love triangle). The real life Piper does eventually marry Larry, so it makes me wonder if they're going to be endgame on the show. I know a lot of watchers dislike Larry.

Yeah apparently Laura Prepon is only going to be in one episode and her storyline will be wrapped up. So any kind of shipping battles will probably be irrelevant.

I really want to see what the fallout will be from Piper's beat down of Pennsatucky.

I find Larry to be somewhat of a douchebag, but part of me still holds out hope.

And so it has returned. I am so excited for this season. I just hate that I have to make frequent stops because watching awkward moments or confrontational moments makes me feel awkward. I have resorted to watching such moments with subtitles only.

On episode 5. They completely threw me for a loop with Morello! I can not believe that. I do not even understand why they trust her with one of the least movement restricting jobs available. And I especially don't get why Christopher would visit her that one time, unless Nicky didn't know who they guy who visited her was and it was just a friend or family member, perhaps also named Chris. I am in shock, just straight in shock. And her sentence seems really lite for what she did. Wow. Just wow.

I was wondering the same thing about Morello. I doubt it was Christopher. I was always under the impression in season 1 that part of her relationship was being made up by her, but I never imagined how far it would go.

Poussey's flashback scenes were the most heartbreaking for me.

I think it was mentioned offhandedly in one episode last season, so she could very well have been lying about who the visitor was or just made the incident up.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.
