Hello, TV Tropers! Do any of you happen to know of any television series or feature films produced in western countries that are either dramatic or at least mainly dark and serious in content? I know of a lot of western animated movies that use this tone in their storytelling like A Scanner Darkly, Waking Life, Rennaisance, Persepolis, Fear[s] of The Dark, and $9.99, but I don't know of very many television shows with such a tone besides the likes of programs like Adult Swim's Moral Orel and Cartoon Network's Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series, all of which were cancelled not very long ago. The intended demographic of the programs or movies don't matter to me as long as they're dramatic and serious in content. I also wouldn't mind if there was a moderate amount of comedy in the writing, like in the series Moral Orel or Monkey Dust, both of which are dark comedies. For the record, i've already watched shows like Avatar The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra. Are any of you other tropers here aware of animated programs and movies than the ones that I listed above that have such a tone?

Well, there go my suggestions.

Maybe try Don Hertzfeldt's It's Such a Beautiful Day. It's a pretty powerful, if surreal, film that's pretty morbid, all things considered. You can order it here if you're interested.

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.

What about "The Gargoyles"? The series is surprisingly dark for Disney at times. I guess you already watched the Batman series.
