So in Japanese high schools, most people join a club, and the ones that don't are said to join a "going home club". But what if there was an official Going Home Club?

Well, we have this show. First episode is already out, so discuss away.

It does a bit too much of that "I'll explain exactly why that is weird" thing that shows up too much in comedic anime. It's funny in small doses (See Senyu) but when it goes through a full episode, it gets old really fast. The Straight Man really does not need to yell why something is odd.

[up] That's not funny though. Brevity is wit. Less is more.

I usually love it when they boil it down to a brief reaction.

Disagree! Straight Man HAVE TO comment everything, even if it means comment about not being able comment. If he/she didn't, it would mean one-way ticket to pure anarchy for all anime universes!

Long rants lean into Don't Explain the Joke territory.

And you are talking as though there's only one way to play this. The tsukkomi may just hit the boke characters to make the point.

In other cases, the audience themselves can be the straight man. And I enjoy jokes that give their audience more credit like that.

And whatever some people might tell you Manzai isn't the only form of comedy.

In any case, with this show I'm not convinced that the straight man is the only problem with the humour anyway. Perhaps their problem is that they've relied on nothing but straight man comedy which has been overdone. In fact we barely get any non-subverted conversations. And when all your conversations are punchlines, none of them have impact anymore.

Yep hiting is also acceptable (though not prefered)form of reaction. And though Manzai isn't only form of comedy it's obviously as valid as any other.

Anyway from all people that voiced their opinion on Tsukomi and Boke routine in KKK one third (me) didn't find it overplayed nor without impact and enjoyed it. So where is problem?

It's subjective. That style of comedy is obviously popular because Senyu and Cuticle Detective Inaba both used it, but not everyone likes all comedy. Enjoy the show, I probably won't follow it.

BTW was Inaba popular enough to set such trend? It was a bit too silly and overblown for my taste.

Sennyu is great though.

Well I, for one, found the first episode very funny. Maybe others didn't, but I did, and as far as personally deciding whether to follow the show or not, I'm pretty sure my opinion is the only one that counts. tongue

Of course, by the same token, I won't be forcing anyone else to watch this show if they did not find it funny.

I agree that some of the rants are unnecessary, but there were some great tsukkomis there.

In any case the gags that made me laugh the most weren't the tsukkomis. It was the fourth-wall breaking ones, my favorite being how they show the rich girl's carefree extravagance by making her blow the animation budget needlessly.

I agree with fillerdude, I preferred the fourth wall jokes. Except in my case it was the early ending theme that got me.

I found the second episode a little better. And it sort of feels like the jokes are bad, but I find myself laughing anyway.

The Durian joke. In hindsight, it doesn't seem funny yet I nearly fell over laughing.

Episode 2: Botan made the episode for me. A girl that gets excited about power levels! And making a pass at the waitress. XD

Someone needs to cut down on the tsukkomi though, because unfortunately she is not Sorata-level.

Episode 3. In which Botan dies.

I think they have about one and a half brain put together. Natsuki has one.

Climbing stairs is Serious Business. So is Karin's cuteness. I find her less cute than at least two of the others, though.

I like Botan. She's also cute in the morning. Actually, I kinda prefer that hairstyle.

The meta-gags work better in this episode.

Too bad the awesomest character won't be in the series anymore. sad

So, I learned some important things this episode.

1. Diaries kill people.

2. Cuteness can bend people to its will.

3. No matter how strong your mental fortitude, there's ALWAYS one thing that will totally destroy you.

Ah... Botan really is broken glass

This show is so amusing, it's fun!

Episode 4. In which they're speaking about episode 3.

Why use hand signals when you can use telepathy? (By the way, I wrote that comment before they actually mentioned telepathy.)

They never threw the ball.

You know, I'd rather believe Botan is the Antichrist who can part fire like that than that she'd actually die from something as mundane as a fire.

This episode is more meta than just about any episode I've seen.

Cute ending.

Episode 4:

Botan's presence is so imposing, that apparently non-sentient things like fire are able to sense it!

The meta level was off the chain! It also provided a nice excuse to change the ending. It was deliciously Botan-centric(and cute).

And then, Natsuki became Andounut.tongue Wordplay is really fun.smile

The discussion about the genre shift is my favorite skit so far. The take that to the creators themselves was hilarious, and I have to applaud the... foreshadowing? I did think the Botan shower scene was unusually fanservice-y. Hahaha.

I really like the cel-shaded style of the mini-segment at the end.

Episode 5. In which stories are mixed up.

Let's use it because we can!

If you look closely, you may spot a Star Wars reference. It's easy to miss, though. It's about three quarters into the episode.

And the best retort to stop the idiocy: Silence.

Awesome use of the line in the last bit of the show proper.

Also, helmet hair.
