It's really nothing at all like STALKER. It's a third person looter shooter.

Gear comes with stat rolls, guns have varying damage and talent rolls, there's crafting, proper bossfights, the whole nine yards.

It's nothing like any other Ubisoft title but don't let the Tom Clancy name trick you into thinking it's got it's gunplay based in realism.

I'd still recommend it. Once you get used to random rioters being able to tank 7.62 rounds with their face it's great fun. Seriously.

Though I wouldn't mind it being like STALKER games either those are some great titles.

Big 1.1 patch rolled out today. Two sets of notes because I really don't know why. General notes. Changes to looting and crafting.

Lots of good changes, some questionable. It's a lot harder to craft things now but every named level 30 or above enemy is guaranteed to drop at least one gold quality item. Plus there are daily and weekly assignments that will award you with money, division tech, crafting materials, and experience.

Also upon reaching level 30 loot starts getting divided by gear score instead of level. If you're familiar with Destiny's light levels it's exactly the same.

No worries, it still feels nothing like Destiny. Quite a bit more fun though.

Since for whatever reason this got posted in the US Politics thread:

I'm sort of wondering whether Massive could have handled the storyline implications better - while there are audio logs and ambient conversation that actually humanise the people you're shooting many, many times, you still have to go out of your way to go find these tidbits. And asides from Rick Valassi and Paul Rhodes, nobody is asking whether or not the SHD's existence is really justifiable. It all seems to be up to the players to go think about things themselves - which judging from the massive shitstorm that has resulted in certain circles following this video and several other articles with a similar subject, isn't really going to happen en masse.

In other news, Falcon Lost... well, the Mobile Cover clipping glitch works (worked?) there, and people are very angry about people cheesing it as a result. Even if the bug has been hotfixed. From what second-hand accounts I've gotten, people were already mad at it being just a fight in one big room full of charging shotgunners and turrets leaving only a small part of said room usable, but the idea of people easily getting the new gear set kit probably put the cherry on top.

Yeah, I think they could have made it more obvious in the story. Even though The real villians of the story are First Wave Division agents.

More conversations with Paul could have helped maybe.

That shit goes out the window when your dealing with people who are BURNING REFUGEES ALIVE.

Yeah, rules of engagement kind of get left by the wayside at that point.

But even the Cleaners are humanized. Joe Ferro is pretty damn charismatic and they've got some audio tapes explaining their motivations too.

If you've got a PC with uPlay and/or Steam accounts, you can use the Rainbow Six Siege free weekend to get the Siege outfit in The Division. Works on every platform as long as the uPlay account you use is the one your copy of The Division is purchased on.

It gets simplified for you really quick when the first time you encounter armed strangers is that they try and murder you and you can witness them executing civilians and unarmed JTF in the streets. Even going so far as to assault or kidnap survivors. The cleaners are nuts, the Rykers will kill anyone and are pretty heavily armed, and the LMB is a bunch of extremist whackos. They may be humanized but they are humanized bastards.

My response to Extra Credits (I actually liked it, even if I disagree with it):

Firstly is a Doylist response: Some of these things are Necessary Weasels for the game to be what it is. The point of the game is to be an elite government agent popping out of the woordwork when disaster strikes, empowered to do what "normal" people can't. Just being a random beat cop who has to follow due process would be a very different game.

I'd argue you're no worse than a Spectre or a good karma Fallout protagonist. Fallout's raiders are very dehumanized "low life savages" who you're encouraged to exterminate en-masse based on little more than what they wear and because your Pip Boy gives them a red marker. Likewise, in Mass Effect you're an agent given absolute authority to do whatever the heck they feel like. I'd argue Division Agents are actually less scary in nature, because unlike Fallout they're given authority from a legitimate state, and unlike Mass Effect they're only being given this power to face a legitimate emergency.

Thirdly: How much of our media arbitrarily holds authority to be evil, just because they're the government or a corporation? In many, many stories, the government showing up causes things to go From Bad to Worse. For example, the Enclave, HECU Marines, ect. Personally, I think it's a bit refreshing to see a story take the side of "order" in an "order vs freedom/chaos" type story.

Apparently to make up for the daily missions not updating for a while and for all the numerous other bugs, Massive is gifting everyone who logs in 150 Phoenix Credits.

That's not exactly a tiny number, go get them.

Patch notes for the 1.2 update coming tomorrow.

For all of the maybe three of you who still care. I've really had a hard time playing the game with the incursion being garbage, the Dark Zone full of griefers and the loot being unusable.

But the loot changes, Search and Destroy missions and the HVTs in the PVE overworld have me interested again. The new incursion also sounds a little better. Real real iffy on that cutting the DZ extraction rope thing though. It's gonna be even harder for solo players like me to stand a chance in the Dark Zone.

The new incursion added is called Clear Sky. The Rikers have captured a SAM site from the LMB and are using it shoot down humanitarian supply planes and helicopters in order to steal the supplies for themselves. Your job is to take care of it.

[up] I spent the other day playing. So here my thoughts. The dz is basically dead. Which is fine. The loot drops are really really sweet now. For about 3-4 hours of play with my group, We found 3-8 piece of gear set items. Over all the PvE is a step in the right direction. As for the Pv P it got worse.

I like the Dark Zone being quieter. The addition of that 200+ gearscore bracket really helped a bunch. No more people who are twice my level downing me in literally three seconds. The Sentry's Call change helped a bunch too.

The loot there is worth entering now and the HVT missions outside the Dark Zone are fun too. I can actually progress with gear now.

So I was talking to a friend of mine about the game and he floated an interesting idea.

What if it's just a simulation? It'd explain some of the more out there things like the bullet sponginess and the UI and the everything else like that. And it'd tie in well to repeated references to Operation Dark Winter. The entire thing could be another test to see if the US could survive any better in the year 2020 or whatever. It might also explain the absence of Fourth Echelon, Rainbow Team, and the Ghosts. And the lack of foreign response or attack.

It's not like virtual reality is anything new to Tom Clancy verses either.

I dunno, it's just a wild idea floated around by two somewhat unsober people.

Well it took me a while but I finally got around to beating the new incursion. Got mostly garbage loot but I did score a much needed chest piece. All I need now is a Predator's Mark backpack and I'm finished.

The incursion itself is real quick if you know what you're doing. Took me and my group like 15 minutes or so. Much prettier too since it takes place outside. I like it a hell of a lot more than Falcon Lost.

Has anyone else beaten the incursions yet? I'm curious as to where all of the three people who play the game here are progression wise.

That would be kind of interesting, buuut "it was all a dream"-style endings are usually frowned upon.
