Is there a minimum size, then?

umm, no. But there is probably a minimum effectiveness. This is meant to be action adventure, which means if you want to play it off as some weird survival horror against giant robot things you're probably not in the right RP. umm..sorry. Maybe the GM thinks differently.

...

So let me get this straight, the problem is the fact that an ACE is just kind of fragile? Like, that's it? That's too weak?

Except... I never said my guy wasn't going to be there during fights of whatever. The whole point was that be being small, fast, agile and alert, he doesn't get hit anyway. o_O;

Like... okay, a scenario. Got a city under attack, big alien robots or monsters. Friendly forces on one side. Using buildings as cover, hefting around giant guns and swords that blow things sky high, the heroes apparently lack satellites and large scale scouting forces despite possessing giant robots etc.

Jake Mustafa, ACE pilot, is not amongst them - instead, because he's about a fourth the size of even one of the smaller mechas, he's hiding out amongst ruins and sewers, skirting the edges of the battlefield, using drones and scans and visors and a sniper rifle with a scope to mark targets/weakpoints/particularly dangerous enemy forces and disable enemy joints and to provide information to the others.

A good scout doesn't need to be able to take hits like a tank, if he's fast and sneaky enough.

basically yes, you're in the wrong genre and the wrong RP for stuff like that. It's a mecha crossover, meaning the mecha pilots fight each other.

Recon is almost always handled via sensor suites and command centers staffed by a variety of Mission Control NP Cs if it's brought up at all, especially since a Super Robot, unlike a Real Robot, is more like a Super Hero and so doesn't even have this stuff brought up ordinarily.

I see...

Dang it, at this point my stomach is hurting. Look, nevermind, it doesn't matter. I'll go and... I dunno, grumble in a corner.

Fighting is also quite liable to take place in grasslands etc. where sneaky tactics don't work so much. Or in the air. So... banking your entire effectiveness on guerilla warfare is not going to work out.

Looking at Robotech: Shadow Chronicles and the Palladium RPG sourcebook in order to see which SC-rendered mecha and vehicles I can use.

A lot of good ones that are cool to use didn't make it to the big screen. Sad.

Um, to be fair, I think Moe mentioned that Bridge Bunnies are perfectly playable as well. So if you don't want a direct mecha role you could go for something like that.

Wait, seriously...? Yay!

Moerin? Moerin? Can I be a Mission Control-y person? (Preferably with remote controlled spy drones?)

Great. Someone's obsessed with armed UAVs.

I don't know if any real robot franchise ever done that, but it could be just a case of not being sure.

Just wait for Moerin to be online and she'll make the final call.

Reapers have shown up in Total Eclipse a few times, mostly as observation and target drones.

If possible, mine would be a bit fancier - more like hovering webcams, or flying saucers with camera lenses, than the tiny robot planes that get used in real life.

Like this, maybe? Or like Tau drones, or something.

Nah! Truth be told, I'm not really bothered about piloting a mini-mecha (though that would be cool) - as I said before: recon, strategy. Anybody can pilot a mecha! I want to be the guy on the sidelines: if that means being mission control, fair enough.

It's worth noting that if we're following canon really close then Yui is going to spend a lot more time in Mission Control than in the Takemikazuchi's cockpit. Since that's where she spent a lot of the series.

It also occurs to me I still have no idea how to spell her TSF's name. >.<

Well, um, from what I understand, canon(s) is/are receiving changes to make things fit with one another, and making the people who pilot mecha pilot mecha more frequently if they don't already is probably just fine.

Hmm...

Speaking of which, should probably work out exactly why one of Earth's pilots is a ten-year-old girl. Unless "she's a child prodigy to a huge degree" works out just fine, which makes things much easier, eh-heh.

Oh, uh, right... Yeah, mission control people are allowed. Would most likely end up at the helm of any battleships we have (and this being SRW, there will be battleships), but... Yeah, that's fine.

Only ships I'm suggesting for inclusions due to how cool they looked in design in Shadow Chronicles is the Ikazuchi-class and the Shimikaze-class.

Will there be minor enemies like pirates? I don't expect them to go "YAARGH!" and "SHIVER ME TIMBERS!" with walking the plank.

Story and world background's still important. Think Moerin's working on the finer details.
