One thing's for sure. As brutal as the Returns K stages are, the ones from Tropical Freeze are even worse. Bopopolis and Platform Problems are a guaranteed method to get an aneurysm.

Perilous Passage was tough, I don't know if I failed it more than Blast & Bounce or not. But it had two things going for it. 1)solid ground, 2) lots of bananas.

What it had against it is forced scrolling, I still haven't found all the puzzle pieces and I'm just going to use Squaks the next time a I play. But I didn't realize bouncing on all those tikis would net a balloon, while I always knew about Law of 100 regarding bananas, and I feel I'm better at platforming than barrel blasting. Blast & Bounce at least had some tire and enemy bouncing to breakup the barrel blasting though, that much I appreciate.

Turns out getting [K][O][N][G] letters of crumble canyon wasn't so bad, it was the puzzle pieces that made me just want to be done with it last time, and that didn't change. I'm going to get the puzzle pieces of Perilous Passage, try the golden temple and then maybe go back for the puzzle pieces of the other levels.

For those who didn't see the Mini Direct, Tropical Freeze is being ported to Switch.

Only known new content is playable Funky Kong, who seems to be an easy mode comparable to Nabbit from New Super Luigi U.

And can't forget the big ape is going to become playable in Mario + Rabbids in a new story DLC.

So between Mario Kart Wii and Tropical Freeze I'm pretty sure it's canon Funky is the most powerful Kong. I think this calls for a Funky prequel.

If Wave Race was still alive, having Funky as a guest character would be a must.

So, are any of you guys going to double dip? I resisted the siren song of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe but I'm definitely going to get this, even if Funky Mode is literally the only thing they add. I love the game that much.

Oh, I am definitely double dipping. Being able to take one of the most finely crafted 2d platformers of all time staring my favorite Nintendo character of all time with me anywhere I go? Yes please!

Plus there's the fact that I really want this game to sell better than it did on the Wii U. Hopefully more people pick it up for the Switch.

I do have Tropical Freeze on Wii U, but as a free Club Nintendo reward, and I only did like 1 or 2 levels. I enjoyed Returns 3DS a lot, but the difficulty + load times dissuaded me from immediately jumping into TF. So I'll probably get this since I suspect I'll be in the mood for it then.

Oof, I can't imagine only playing one or two levels of Tropical Freeze. It's my favorite game on Wii U by far. And I actually loved the Wii U. It's my second or third favorite Nintendo console.

The Switch uses cartridges, so the load times are probably going to be much shorter.

The pitch-distorted voice samples used for Agnes Skinner at the end took it from "lol" to "my sides are in orbit".

That was somehow even funnier than "Steamed Hams but it's Banjo-Kazooie."

And I don't say that lightly.

They're obviously making up for their ridiculous original score.

So, anyone else enjoying the game? It's even better the second time. (I'm playing Original Mode first and I'm definitely going to shoot for 200%).

Also, there's an artist on Twitter doing Retro-style redesigns of the Kremlings. I think those look really great! What do you guys want from the Kremlings, if/when they return?

So on the Wii U I played the first level since I got it for free from Club Nintendo. And never got around to playing more despite highly enjoying Returns 3D. Been slowly chipping away at the Switch version, and it lives up to the hype. It truly feels like a AAA 2D platformer that Mario should be like. Feels easier than the last game (not playing on Funky Mode), though part of that is me understanding the tricks better. Water levels are better than the norm, but still less hype. Vehicle sections are less annoying at least. No idea why there are partners other than Dixie.

Great game. Not sure if I'll go for 200%, but I'd like to do as much as possible.

Cranky and Diddy have their uses. Cranky can bounce higher than Dixie can float and his bounces retain momentum, so he's the top pick for time trials/speedrunning (at least pre-Funky), and Diddy is best for precision platforming, especially in stages like Bopopolis, Precarious Pendulums, and Spinning Spines where Dixie's midair wobble can throw you off. He's also the best choice against the final boss.

It's good to see that Tropical Freeze is doing so well now that it's on the Switch. It's first week, it sold so much better than it did on the Wii U, and it's apperently still pretty high up there in the charts. It really is nice to see that it was the Wii U that was responsible for Tropical Freeze's mediocre sales when it first released, and not the DK brand itself.

That said, I'm really enjoying my second goaround with Tropical Freeze. I enjoyed my first time around with it too, but Funkey Mode really helps me with the most challenging parts of the games. I've finally beaten the secret world and unlocked Hard Mode, for instance!

So, anyone else excited for the upcoming Donkey Kong Adventure DLC for Mario + Rabbids?

Man, it feels so good to have Grant Kirkhope working on DK again, because that rendition of DK Island Swing is fantastic. There's a really great rendition of the DK Isle theme from DK 64 in the game too.

To each his own I guess.

I know Kirkhope's music is really well liked but I always kind of saw DK as a Robin Beanland and David Wise project, and a lot of the games' soul comes from their compositions.

What about Eveline Fischer? She contributed much more to the original trilogy's soundtrack than Beanland did, and yet she's always left out in the cold. Voices of the Temple, Northern Hemispheres, Water World, Enchanted Riverbank, and Rockface Rumble are all classics.

Re: the Rabbids DLC, it looks great! I'm so glad the DK series and characters are getting so much attention.

She's good people too, yeah.

I just think Wise and Beanland have a higher ratio of memorable tracks compared to hers. 3's OST is still great but probably the weakest overall, and it was the one she helmed.

I don't think it's any less good than DKC1's soundtrack.

DKC3 is underrated in general. People say it's the worst of the trilogy, but I'd call it a big improvement over the original in terms of gameplay and level design.

I dunno

1's level design was a little on the looser side but I think that helped keep it kinetic and flowing. It definitely felt like they were still trying to get their bearings with everything so I can at least partially agree that it's on the rougher side.

3 had a strong emphasis of gimmicks and puzzles that slowed things down a lot, which makes it fun to run through once or twice but a lot less replayable than first 2, at least for me, which had a much snappier cadence over all. 2's a pretty happy middle ground between 1's kind of free form, looser design and 3's overly specific one.

I know mine is an unpopular opinion, but I liked Yamamoto's work in Returns. Though most of the OST consisted of remixes, it also had the amazing theme from that musical level in the Factory, the one from Savory Stu's boss battle, and the K level theme. The music from Cliff was catchy as well.

I agree that Wise's music has no match, though.
