I think it all depends upon what (s)he's been placed into.

There's the Orphanage of Fear, and of love, and it depends on whether he grew up in which. On belongings, except if he works part-time, I doubt he'll have fancy gear. Caretakers can't shell out much cash for a single child, since they usually have tens of them to feed.

Is "foster care = orphanage" right here? Because these tropes don't usually deal with foster families.

I assume that the OP means foster families. I dont think England uses an orphanage system.

I have a 16-year old character who has been living in foster care in England for over ten years. As such, I am seeking help on the subject. In addition to general advice on what the character's outlook in life may be (especially with respect the the prospect of having to leave foster care either now or at 18) and how many homes such a child would have likely been through, what I really need is some insight into daily life.
For instance, how much belongings is a child in long-term foster care likely to have? What about stuff like laptops and mobile phones? Would they be able to get them, and if so who pays for them?
