Definitely YMMV, since it's subjective. Just went into more ASMR smile, with some DDLC stuff.
Then I ventured into fallenshadow's channel (NSFW), which is more like voice acting than ASMR (hence the video titles, maybe she(he?) is an ASMR-maker in training?), and contains embarassingly cute videos which are often traps, which is kind of nice since it would feel too ...unavowable yeeshtongue most of the time (little sisters being an very easy way of getting someone's affectivity).

Ahem ! There is a way of getting that kind of voice (from a man's voice), here's an adorable and fun tutorial for it [lol] !

NothingButASupe: I'm a moon, I don't have a throat.
Tosha/VR Trapman: Then how are you talking ?!
People are magical with what they can do sometimes.

Oh [up], and Soble's page 2 folder seems bugged. Cannot open~ sad !

There was a time I would type "asmr" into Youtube's search bar and the people I'd find were Heather Feather, Gentle Whispering, ASMR Requests, Veni Vide Vulpes, and few others.

Now I type in "asmr" and Youtube gives me 5-6 videos from Gibi ASMR, Pelagea ASMR, ASMR Darling, Lily Whispers ASMR, Ephmeral Rift, and usually at least 1 slightly effeminate-looking guy with big eyelashes.

I used to live and breath medical asmr's. There's like 100-300 medicals/physicals/exams now. I'm glad I saved the earlier videos I used to listen to back then.

Boy have times changed from when ASMR seemed like "that weird part of Youtube."

Well, given that I can still find boob thumbnails for ASMR videos maybe they haven't changed that much.

Oh, by the way, I recently discovered that Tosha's training regimen is not the only thing that allows him to have such a flexible voice, so don't break your vocal chords ! Sorry ! He also uses a voice changer.
But it's pretty cool to both have a flexible voice and a changer, they're both important factors to have a believable voice at the end smile.

As much as I dislike the commercialization of ASMR it's lead to some movie-like videos.

As long as the ASMRtists don't shill products in their vids without letting us know:

  • "Let me sooth you, take you away, like Delta Airlines, only $399 to Las Vegas"
  • "Look at the pretty, pretty lights on this RGB keyboard I got on MassDrop, get yours today!"

On one hand it's immersion-breaking if inserted poorly, on the other I appreciate how product shilling in ASMR videos is almost always done as a part of the ASMR. And, y'know, I'll gladly doze off to a 40+ minute Delta Airlines video if you make it soothing.tongue

Kaya ASMR did a video called Unlocking Your Heart - Sci-Fi Locksmith.

In which you hear the best kinds of jingling, rattling, clicking, and lock-opening sounds during a metaphorical "break-in."

Something funny and sad.

  • I just found out one of the ASMR channels I followed off and on is actually called "Cloveress" and not "Cloverless" like I'd thought.
  • I also found out that the channel's creator passed away recently.

Morbid, but the last video they posted was called "just chillin" and it's a livestream... I guess, waiting for the uploader to start up. It's going to be there forever until the end of Youtube I guess.

Eerie.

So, in the process of moving the ASMR Video page from Web Video/ to Main/, the old YMMV and Trivia pages got cutlisted. I've recreated them, but I know they're missing some content. I know there was one on the Trivia page about ASMRtists doing the same video in multiple languages but I can't think of the trope name for anything right now. If anyone can remember what used to be on them, or knows of entries that should be on them, please add them.

add No Budget to the trivia page and the Fan Nickname of "ASMRtist" (for the creators) and "Tingleheads" for the fans of the videos. No budget because a lot of creators are using their own stuff for props or just speaking over footage.

So I have been listening to many different kinds of ASMR, primarily nature and animal ones. Today for the first time I gave eating ASMR a listen.

Oh. Oh god.

This...is THE single most disgusting thing I ever heard. Wow. I can't listen to this for more than five seconds GOD it's sickening.

Definitely not for me.

While you make a fair point: [1] - an article from Wired called "Now Might Be the Time People Need ASMR Most"

It can replicate a sense of being touched, even when there’s no one around. As the world self-isolates, that feeling is more important than ever.

I still need to point out that people are making ASMR videos about the virus[lol]

It makes sense. It's just I've been seeing a flood of "mad scientist builds you/psycho girlfriend kidnaps you/sailor moon/plant shop" RP vids.

Which might say more about me than anything - but it does point to people having a lot more free time to be in their houses.

There's something vile yet pleasing about how - now - ASMR is going to be more popular than ever. Before it was something that some people just didn't get or wouldn't even attempt. Now, yeah, people stuck at home feeling cramped are probably giving it a shot.

It's a good thing overall I guess.

Yeah ! The multiplication of ASMRtists (which isn't only due confinement by the way) and the increase in views over two years, at least for affection-based ones like SkittyKat and LemonLeaf, is symptomatic of how many people are victim of the imbalanced distribution of Eros-based love in the world, but also of the emergence of many people who wish to provide it and make ASMR videos as a palliative to give to all those lonely people.

I don't know how common my situation is, but while I have felt "tingles", it has never been from a video or audio track. Instead I listen to them either as white noise when I am reading, and I find the best are soft ambient sounds like sifting through pebbles, because any talking is distracting, running water is too harsh and even music doesn't quite work. Then when I try to sleep I look for talking videos, but I have to hide the screen (blue light) and it needs to be a very particular type of talk. Too many ASMRtists have voices that are just too high-pitched, and talk with ups and downs that are perfectly natural, but distracting in this situation. I need a voice that is low, soothing and, literally, monotonous. I have found the best are unintentional videos of doctors giving examinations, which have the additional advantage that imagining myself being examined puts me at ease. Basically I listen to plenty of these videos (usually ignoring the video portion) but not for the advertised reason.

Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.

And there is nothing wrong with this. Some people don't get the tingle. Others can "lose" the tingles because of overexposure.

At night, I'm not listening for the tingles so much as trying to get my brain TO SHUT UP.

Every night:

ME: "I am sooo tried" <yawn>

Brain: "..."

ME:"SO.."<yawn> "tired..."

Brain: "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN"

ME:"I NEED TO SLEEP!"

Brain: "THIS IS MAMBO NUMBER 5!"
