Princess Power's Award-Bait Song's music video is out! It's called "Soaring."

I like how stylized the world looks—it's different from every other Barbie movie so far.

Sorry for the necro-bump, but I found this out recently! Mattel; is launching new Barbie TV shows and specials, alongside a new toy series called Enchantimals, and a kids's competition show called The Toy Box. One of the series seems to be a Life in the Dreamhouse type thing!

I'm awakening this thread because I've been binging my childhood and Princess and the Pauper is a legitimately good movie. The graphics are very early 2000's, but the music is fantastic and it's a very heartfelt story. I'm about to start gushing here.

There's a lot of things that I go back and watch, thinking they'll be as good as they were when I was a kid and I end up extremely disappointed. Not so with this. It really holds up for me.

Annalise and Erika are great characters that support each other and treat each other like equals. I love the way they respond to one another when they meet in town. It'd be easy for them to blow each other off because they come from such different backgrounds, but Erika especially recognizes that they're both dealing with very difficult situations and she hones in on the fact that they're similarly unhappy with their lives and are stuck where they're at because of a sense of duty and responsibility to their loved ones (in Annalise's case, her entire kingdom). I'd also say this is one of the few Princess movies where the guys are interesting in their own right. Julian and Dominick manage to have a lot of personality.

This is probably one of my favorite songs from the movie (even if it's kind of silly in that it's about a cat that barks like a dog.)

Erika and Annalise meet:

I want a live action musical of this so bad.

Speaking of, I heard a rumor about a live-action Barbie movie a while back.

I feel like that could be really good or really, really bad. I can't imagine what it would even be about.

[up] The thing about Barbie is that there are numerous ways to make a film. They can do a Life Size ripoff, a tongue-in-cheek film ala Life in the Dreamhouse, a completely serious film based off the characters, etc, etc. These can either turn out very good or very mediocre.

Barbie Vlog is a pretty decent web-series. I'm not fond of Barbie as a teenager, though. Mattel seems to be pushing that a lot lately.

Looks like Margot Robbie might be playing Barbie. Amy Schumer was originally going to play her but dropped out because of scheduling conflicts. I'm...really glad. I don't care for Amy Schumer's brand of humor, and to be honest I don't find her to be that funny in what I've seen of hers. Margot Robbie is a great actress, and I think she can pull of pretty much anything.

...why are we talking about a LIVE ACTION movie in the Western Animation section?

Cmon! I was so happy that someone else recognized the genius of The Princess And The Pauper. The latin american dub is soooooo awesome. Especially Annelisse abd Erika's duet song. It has over 5 MILLION views on Youtube. I love that movie. I used to hate it and found it boring until I finally realized the sheer genius.

Gonna gush about the movie again.. Another thing I love about The Princess and the Pauper is that it's feminist AF and it never feels the need to go "Look at this GURL POWER," it just does it.

The girls support each other and lift each other up. The movie also understands that while Annalise is privileged in ways that Erika isn't, she also has valid reasons to be upset. It never puts Annalise down or diminishes the real stresses that she has over her incoming arranged marriage, or about constantly having to appease officials and put their needs before her comfort and health.

Erika falls in love but choses to enjoy a career as a singer and then accepts a proposal, allowing her to follow her dream and enjoy married life. And the movie asserts that both of these decisions are valid.

Annalise is passionate about her education (particularly science) and enjoys studying—the movie shows studying and perusing education are good, but doesn't feel the need to put down Annalise's feminine aspects to do so.

I could keep going, but damn. I love this movie.

My favorite Barbie movies are the Nutcracker, Rapunzel, Swan Lake, the Fairytopia trilogy, Mariposa, Diamond Castle, Magic of Pegasus, Twelve Dancing Princesses, both Mermaid Tale movies, The Pearl Princess, Secret Door, and Star Light Adventure. I'll have to give the Princess and the Pauper another rwwatch—as a kid I think i found it boring too XD

I need to watch The Three Musketeers one and A Christmas Carol.

I've only ever seen The Nutcracker and the two Barbie and the Rockers specials. Barbie and the Rockers is a surprisingly good Jem ripoff. It's a shame it wasn't made into a full series.

I love the Barbie movies, too! They were also a part of my childhood. I remember at one point, I went on a quest to watch all of the Barbie movies ever released on DVD, by regularly going to my local library and borrowing every single one of their Barbie movies I could find that I hadn't watched.

My library carries a lot of the Barbie movies. ^^ They're really fun to take out, and the ones I really like I buy later!

I haven't seen many of the Barbie movies, but I did watch Barbie: Star Light Adventure out of curiosity with my mom. We both enjoyed it.

Judging from the recent comments, it sounds like The Princess and the Pauper might be worth checking out. Are there any other Barbie movies worth checking out? Netflix has a number of Barbie movies, but too bad it doesn't have all of them. How good are the Barbie movies in general?

[up]I saw bits of some of the Barbie films, but I can't really remember which ones.

I am, however, interested in watching them all (please don't be as much films as the Scooby-Doo Direct-to-Video Film Series).

I will watch them in this December. November's Star Wars month for me to prepare for The Rise of Skywalker.

[up] There's 36 movies total, so there's even more Barbie movies than Sooby-Doo. They stopped being made since 2017 though, I think due to the Barbie Dreamtopia series being made instead plus the upcoming live-action Barbie movie.
