I don't think I would trust any answer that's not "A bunch of white dudes trying to impress their mistresses".
"...An overfed, long-haired, leaping gnome..." - Eric Burdon/WarOr any answer that is "Lives of *oppressed group* improved" History is easy when you know that everything that can go wrong will. Which is also a good way to describe this fort a lot of the time.
The most edgy person on the Internet.European history is quite similar.
honestly quite a lot of history is similar. yadda yadda, doomed to repeat, and so on.
"Power tastes like bacon." "I like bacon."And even if you know history, it's often hard as Hell to avoid repeating it. People generally take the easy way out, either physically or mentally. You have to actually work at it to not just say "fuck it. Let the loop come back around and be someone else's problem."
So can someone give us a count on just how many dead things the fort's history has? A total count is fine, though bonus points for actually counting and giving us a list broken out into "Friend, Foe, Elf, Animal"
why separate "foe" and "elf"?
"Power tastes like bacon." "I like bacon."Sorry, I was switching over to Peridexis Errant's DF Starter Pack. A bit like going from piloting your lil' Cessna to a 727. There's plenty there to make your life easier if you know how to use it,
but it's a lot larger and there's more ways to screw up everything all the time. It's the first time I made a back up of the Fort. I got scared.

"...An overfed, long-haired, leaping gnome..." - Eric Burdon/WarI have made some bad, depressing choices in Dwarf Fortress, but writing up this list really takes the cake. Let's try not to kill off any more dwarves, hokay? :(
The following names, I found, do not have any current dwarves with them. If you want to be re-dorf'd as a specific dwarf, LET ME KNOW! Otherwise I'll stick you wherever it looks like you'll be interesting.
Illus Maximus
Hyokai
Oblivion Mobile
Oscar The First
Snugglesquid
Besserwisser
Azrael341
Tarsen

"...An overfed, long-haired, leaping gnome..." - Eric Burdon/WarHoly crap this fort is a death trap under a very thin gold leaf veneer. ROFL. Still think that volcanoe with easy minerals is all glory now. SUFFER DWARVES TO APPEASE ARMOK!
I am surprised there are no dead Tuefel's on the list.
Who watches the watchmen? We killed three wagons and a ghost and didn't even stop rollin' long enough to notice. I think that this requires !!Science!! - specifically, can we kill ghosts with adamantine weapons?
Because this will be the greatest Dwarf Fortress/Ghostbusters crossover ever.
(Not that Ghostbusters, this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oo0FVs9KvrQ )
"...An overfed, long-haired, leaping gnome..." - Eric Burdon/WarJournal of Oscar "The First" Adstukos Koshdezarut Morul, Lord of Lore and Bookkeeping:
"Our leader has sent a few dwarfs down to me, here in the library, with more than 100 new books that are to be translated and then integrated into myour book collection. The first book to be translated is Hiro Hiko Ara Ki's Ojoj a storybook about the adventures of a family of dwarfs."
Chapter 1: Gud, The In———
Journal of Oscar "The Second" Adstukos Koshdezarut Morul, newly appointed Lord of Lore and Bookkeeping:
"We dug out father from the pile of books today. He had been crushed under the weight of 153 books after they fell on him. Nobody had looked into his study for 2 weeks after the latest batch of books had been delivered to him(he liked it when he was alone) so his death came as a shock to us. A great man has ascended to the afterlife."
"I have been appointed to his old position in the administration and intend to carry on his important work."
"First I have to get a few assistants for the bookkeeping. I will be more active than my father and inspect the fortress myself rather than having someone else do it. I will have to ask our leader for permission to try out all the different jobs in the fortress." "Also, start grooming Oscar "The Third" to take my place if a kobold or vampire kill me."

Shouldn't there be a separate category for dead vihas?
On an unrelated note: I have a bunch of exams, deadlines, and other stuff happening over the course of the next month and a half, so I will have to skip my next turn as I doubt that I will have time to play.
Try to keep the Prince alive, and obey the Eternal Regent Durza as you would the God-Emperor himself (who is pleased with his new epithet in Condorito's list; he was considering Carrion Lord, but Corpse-God works).
Wish I could take credit for it, but I found it that way. :) Armok's Easter Eggs are full of Fun!
That's one reason I'm going so slowly, to give everybody time to get their lives settled. Including myself. I'll keep on regularly updating, so that the killing fields don't lie fallow for long.
"...An overfed, long-haired, leaping gnome..." - Eric Burdon/WarJournal of Azreal the Former Solar King
I appear to have DIED! I'm writing this note from beyond the GRAVE. If anyone is reading this, I'm going to HAUNT you! You son of an elf.
If you do not wish to be haunted, then you must speak the following words to the next Wrestler and/or Mace dorf you see. If their name is Mook they probably won't even be missed.
The words are as follows: "Je ziel is verbeurd! Uw schip behoort nu tot Azreal Du Cain! Naar de hel met jullie, naamloos pion!"
(I'd like to be re-dorfed as a wrestler and/or mace dorf please)
If by sad you mean awesome, I agree with you Conodorito. Your list WAS the saddest thing you've ever done here.
This definitely tops my early list of everyone wanting to be dorfed. By a magnitude of one hundred!
How dare you! I wouldn't call my worst enemy a son of an elf! unless they were an elf.
"Power tastes like bacon." "I like bacon."@Bladebound: YES. THERE SHOULD BE A CATEGORY FOR MY HORDES OF CORPSES. Seriously, we're gonna get a necromancer one day who thinks it's a good idea to raise the entire Kirbonium line and then you'll have a lot worse things to worry about than the Circus coming to town
"'LEEROY, JE- *shot in the head*' - the battle cry of the Viha." — MadnessincarnateYes, and knowing us it'll be a demon diplomat necromancer from the local human civ, who spreads husk dust everywhere and does all this horrible stuff completely on accident. And when we kill him (Maxwell will take care of that) out of necessity, it'll finally start a war with those human bastards . . .
so basically they'll come in and try to open negotiations and the entire fortress will fall apart and they'll just be sitting there going "oh Armok. not again."
"Power tastes like bacon." "I like bacon."Pfft. It'll be more like "Oh Armok, N"-MAXWELLED-
"Oh, Armok, DAMNIT ROTPA—" *Kirb'd*
"'LEEROY, JE- *shot in the head*' - the battle cry of the Viha." — MadnessincarnateAzrael 342 and Oscar the Second, Lord of Lore have both been redorf'd! Welcome back to their extra crispy doom!
10 Malachite, 267:
A giant crow has reverted to a wild state, and started beating the crap out of a haule...erm, farmer! And two more have joined him! The crow killed the farmer to death before anybody could get to him!
One down, three more to go. Giant crows, that is. Not farmers.
The one thing that could be said for Durza's plan to kill us all, is it does make it easy for the marksdwarves to get the monsters roosting in the rafters. A puppy is being attacked - unfortunate, but better than a dwarf. The giant crow rips the puppy in half, earning itself the name Mistygoads. And the ire of an Animal Dissector. Cilob Scarrings, while having his leg chewed on by the Deep Crow, calmly shoots the thing in the guts and causes it to flee to the rafters. If you've never seen a crow that just murdered a puppy vomiting, then you've never lived. After the militia gets rolling, though, it's mostly cleanup. Nobody should feel good about killing crows, no matter if they have names or not. Moldath Onulalod, you will be missed.
"...An overfed, long-haired, leaping gnome..." - Eric Burdon/WarSo is spent most of my Easter break reading through waterburned, beigeknife and this thread so I finally made a tvtropes account to ask if I can be dorfed. I'd prefer as a male siege engineer or mason.
