Nope doesn't alter ores. It alters wood, clothes, and leather oh and drops from invaders. I will see if I can get the save to work with it.

[up]So, does it work by doing stuff like this:

  • Pine, Maple, and Ash wood becomes Wood.
  • Dear, Cow, and Giant Earwig (or whatever) meat becomes Meat.
  • Buffalo, Elf, and Your Grandmother's bones become Bones.

Is that how it works? Stuff like that?

Seems that way. meaning fewer checks there are other under the hood fixes that are not exactly detailed but it runs pretty well to be honest.

As regretful as it may sound, I just might be too bogged in college to do a thing about the succession games in the future, so out of seeing things going wrong in the future if I do hop in, I will kindly request to not be brought in the next cycle or two.

NP made a note in the OP.

Ok today I am trying to get the new mod for the fort working if possible.

Also I got back to work on the web page for the succession games. It is going pretty nicely. Right now the Overseer Journals section for Water Burned works by clicking on a old book cover which takes you to pages of the journal. I wanted a page flipping effect but I couldn't find any free plug ins or HTML 5 widgets and I can't write HTML 5 to save my life.

Nuts. If we wanted to do a Masterwork DF fort we would need to start a new one.

So who wants to keep this one going until disaster strikes and who wants to start a new fort under the mod?

But that's the funny part. No one knows how to play Dwarf Fortress. The only person that might know how to play is Toady, and he spends his days fixing bugs and adding new, more complicated features.

Viha:Its not too hard to pick up. Just remember to use the wiki and check the bay12 forums. There are also some guides online.

Also you can hangout in our forums regular DF thread to ask questions there.

We could always pull a Waterburned and start the second game as a spin off while the first is still going, set up a Masterwork game and continue this one until we run it into the ground.

And yeah, it only streamlines the unimportant parts, like different woods and animal product names. I'm the one who first mentioned the idea, I think. tongue It's also possible to choose for Aquifers to not exist at all. I would definitely disable every flavor feature not involved in streamlining for performance. The game gets . . . complicated beyond DF otherwise.

It does indeed. That sounds like a viable option. Run a spinoff under masterwork while we run "Jawmetal" for as long as possible.

I will wait a little while for the others to chime in before I do anything.

Rather than pulling in the whole of Masterwork, what about just using Modest Mod directly?

Is Modest Mod the part that streamlines things? Cause I could see that working. Meph says that Masterwork runs 25% more quickly than the vanilla game, but he doesn't say whether that's with everything activated or not. If it's with everything on . . .

I can see streamlining alone boosting our FPS by a shit ton.

MW runs faster with all its bells and whistles and its stream lining turned on.

Pthariens: That might be easier let me look into it.

Modest mod sadly does not have the same level of FPS improvement we can get from MW>

Hooo boy! If it runs faster even with the full treatment, we are in for one Hell of a game with just the streamlining . . .

Honestly, I think that abandoning Jawmetal altogether might be the best option. It has too many natural advantages to present a real challenge to run, short of invading hell or trying to get every single civilisation to declare war on us. The evil blood fog made Waterburned a deathtrap, but also interesting.

[up] Yeah, this. Sure, it was a living hell but that's what made it fun. If we're gonna do another game we should embark somewhere that isn't as calm. Games without !Fun! are boring.

They're fine for me, though I'm working to change the challenge. Like doing a very rare minerals world and living on the surface . . . I don't even get iron from my human home civ, though I might manage to get some stuff from the dwarves next year.

Still, a world without Fun isn't worthwhile as a Let's Play for this game. It really has to be crazy to get there.

An MW world with only streamlining should be fast enough to support at least extra caverns if not full-on HFS shenanigans.

I am surprised some fort murdering ass clown didn't pull a lever on a forts lava reserves or accidentally dump lava on other dwarves.

The desert local was pretty decent. The menacing sponges and multitude of hostile beastmen made for some interesting times.

I think we should keep Jawmetal alive and going until we get mega beasts and maybe dragons. No one fort stays happy forever.

A new location for the next fort should be someplace interesting indeed. Maybe a glacier with just a touch of wood on the fringes or perhaps smack bang in the middle of a properly evil biome without raising the dead weather.

I've survived a few years in a terrifying biome with reanimating weather myself, but considering the fact that most of the people here don't have much experience with it, it's not the best idea. If you guys want my two cents, you should find somewhere similar to Waterburned. It was perfect. It had just enough disadvantages to make it challenging, but not too challenging.

Nah not another waterburned clone. More of the same gets boring as well. The other concern with reanimating zones is the hits the FPS as the various "dead things" rapidly multiply.

Well, it took me long enough, but after watching these since Waterburned, I finally made an account on here, and would like to request a turn whenever you all get things figured out. Be aware before accepting though, my knowledge of fortress mode is limited, to say the least.

I think we should go ahead with lethal rain in a terrifying reanimating desert. If you loose the fort, it gets passed on to the next person, who has to then reclaim.

This is a signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Well it sounds like folks want to start a new fort. Jaw Metal survives, for now.

We will start a new fort in an evil biome and see how that goes.
