A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

Well, here's the discussion thread folks. For the sake of a roll call, who's around?

I guess I'm going to be the token human character if the current trend holds up. I know the Rebels are a diverse group, but still...

Anyway, I was thinking about the ship too. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the specific model YT-1300 freighter is necessarily directly associated with the Alliance, at least not in the same way as, say, the X-wing or the Calamari cruiser. I mean, even the Millennium Falcon itself was really just an independent smuggler ship until at least the end of A New Hope. They might raise some eyebrows if they were going into some kind of Imperial restricted zone in one of those, but otherwise they might pass for civilians I bet. In fact, I was thinking part of the reason Arcil would have been chosen for this squad is because of his civilian freighter background.

Actually, I decided to get a YT-1300 freighter after I found it on Wookieepedia as one of the ships in the Alliance fleet.

Although, looking through the Alliance Fleet page, I found a bunch of ships that don't have a good description of them. How about a Corellian Battleship? They have virtually no descripiton, so we can decide what it looks like to suit our purpose.

It's probably also worth asking what to expect once we do get going. Maybe how we're gonna start out, or what people have planned for their characters, if anything.

You guys are most likely going to start off in the spaceship en route to wherever your mission is. You will be listening to a hologram of Bail Organa telling you your mission and destination.

I'm around. No opinion on the ship so far, although you'd think we would be using some kind of civilian craft for the sneaky missions so that we don't attract too much attention. Actually, come to think of it, why limit ourselves to just one ship? We're a special operations unit and we should be able to pick whatever is best suited for the mission at hand.

[up] Hmmm... that's an interesting idea. Maybe Bail could meet you all in the hangar and give you guys the choice between ships?

I was just thinking myself that if we're meant to be a secret squad carrying out covert missions, tying ourselves down to a single kind of ship would be a bad idea. It might work for the first couple missions if the ship was nondescript, but I would think the Empire would eventually catch on.

How about for the first mission, we start off with the YT-1300 freighter and then we'll switch after that and I'll let you guys decide what ship it is. Fair?

Whatever works well for the specific mission I guess. If my character is coming from a fighter pilot background, he's probably used to being assigned a ship before a mission. And on a meta level, I don't care too much about what specifically happens as long as it makes a reasonable amount of sense in context and there's plenty of stuff to do and character interaction to be had.

Yeah, we're kind of taking this a little too far, we can just get a ship for every mission.

Yep, let's not get bogged down in petty details. And, what do you all think about me starting the game tomorrow?

So... how much should we know about the campaign without spoiling too much? Might we get the chance to participate in and/or change canon events?

For the sake of convenience, I'm assuming everyone can understand Grimgrim.

[up]Should we just go with autotranslate, or figure that everyone knows Galactic Basic?

CombatC122 from The Frozen Icebox Since: May, 2011

It'll probably be a form of Translation Convention I'm guessing. We'll write our lines in English/Basic, but I'll assume it would sound like Wookiee language if the scene was actually playing out.

Also, I was sort of wondering if R3-BP could be Arcil's usual assigned astromech as a Rebel pilot.

[up]Sure, Why Not? unless Fantasy's got an evil plot in mind that requires otherwise.

Alright, I'll just go with that then unless there's a good reason not to. Maybe I'll let some other people post before I do though. I figure Arcil's job here is pretty straightforward for now - just make sure they get to those coordinates without alerting anyone.

No, the astromech thing is fine.
