Apartmentstaid - Homestuck/SBURB RP

A continuation of this RP under new management. A 'normal' human kid SBURB session, as in there will be no earthshakingly major glitches that drastically alter the game set-up.

Some Rules:

• No godmodding/adult situations/drama on penalty of removal, the usual warning.
• Classpects definitions will be determined by their player. We will need Time and Space as aspects.
• I am flexible with canon elements. Just discuss any ideas you want to introduce first.
• Rules will be added onto as I find the need.

An Example Sign Up Sheet:

• Name: Maya Hanove
• Gender: Female
• Appearance: "Did you call in sick like I told you to? Yes, I know you're trying to ditch! But you have an attendance record to keep in mind!"
• Personality: A thirty year old woman compressed into the form of a teenage girl (not literally you weirdo). Maya has almost supernaturally developed maternal instincts, and is possibly the single most annoyingly nagging thing any of her friends have ever known. She has her friend's best interests, or what she thinks are their best interests, at heart and she will take every opportunity to harp on them about what they should and shouldn't be doing, morals, their diet, her concern for them, the list goes on and on. She can get quite obsessive about this, and has extensive charts tracking down every bit of information she acquires on them. She's definitely loyal and trustworthy, and assuming one can put up with her incessant need to act like everyone's mother, she's probably the one of the more reliable members of the group.

This maternal complex is rather unstable, given that Maya is still essentially a budding teenager and thus has not developed the actual maturity necessary to effectively handle her instincts. She's prone to being a doormat, not knowing when to say no or enough. She overloads herself with responsibility then shuts down or freaks out under the pressure. She's prone to ignoring herself and being very sloppy in her self-maintinance, which negatively impacts her self-image and self-respect.

She has few hobbies, most of which are related to her exaggerated maternal complex, so the gamut of skills needed to keep a house orderly and running. She only even reads Homestuck because her friends do. Her 'guardian' is actually her sister younger than her and the beneficiary of Maya's care.

This was totally unintentional by the way I just wanted a name that evoked motherly symbolism.

Heh, I know, I just wanted to make the joke.

Anyways, if Kkut posts a character will we have enough people to start? If more decide to enter later on, we could probably handwave it with something similar to the 'separate sessions' thing that happened with the trolls.

Four is a fair number in my books but I'll let the other two call that. It might be too few for them to be comfortable.

• Personality: For the most part Justin's asocial, preferring time to waste away for hopefully a better tomorrow. Though, beneath that he can be awkward and quirky and willing to put up with anything to keep friends. He often plans out but doesn't follow through on actions, and can quickly forget people and things he hasn't thought about or considers unimportant.

That's acceptable. That brings us up to an even four and all needed titles taken.

We should probably work out who's on Prospit and Derse, and who lives next to the frog temple. If we're breeding a First Guardian somewhere along the line, then we should figure out who writes the genetic notebook thing (not sure, but I think it's a Derse girl?) and what kind of thing it is.

Can we consider changing his pesterchum color? Two red typers could be confusing.

Well, since Troy is rather isolated; lives in a cabin in the woods, he can be near the frog temple. he is the space player, after all.

Mm, OK. I think there are a couple inactive volcanoes in Colorado too, so that's taken care of.

And I didn't even plan it!

Name: Dick Cooper

Gender: Male

Appearance: A skinny kid with bushy eyebrows and a big mop of curly black hair. He wears a white Black Flag t-shirt, jeans, hobnail boots, and a tacky Hawaiian shirt.

Personality: Probably the most violent of the kids, Dick was getting in fights long before he ever heard of SBURB. He hated everyone, and everyone hated him, and that was just the way he liked it. He has a thoroughly cynical worldview; to hear him talk, everyone's a bastard on some level and the only difference between himself and anyone else is that he admits it. He enjoys calling other people out on their flaws, and takes great pleasure in ranting at length on exactly what pisses him off about them. He's easily trolled, but he doesn't mind, since he sees it as more of an opportunity than anything. That being said, despite his harsh nature and brutal honesty he's probably the single most noble, reliable and principled member of the team, and his bleak outlook and total acceptance of his own flaws have numbed him to the horrors of SBURB. His interests include punk rock, tabletop gaming, hardboiled detective novels and biology.

Wow...

Is that a good wow or a bad wow?

I think that 'wow' was about how an apparently combative and unfriendly character became friends with the rest of us. Um. It seems like in a game like this where relying on others is important this character might be a bit hard to work with.

Also, what would possess a person like that to read Homestuck?

Well, shit. I didn't even take that into account. I'm new to RP, but not to writing, and I figured the two wouldn't be much different. Still, even Rose had friends. Even Karkat had friends. Hell, even Eridan had friends. How would you change it?

EDIT: And in answer to mrminun, you'd be surprised. I'll confess that the character's a bit of a self-insert. Not in terms of violence, but in terms of general personality. Mind you, I've changed a bit, but it's basically how I was back around the time I was getting into Homestuck.

Troll relationships and idea of behavior are screwed up massively from our perspective and Rose wasn't violently aggressive. She was snarky but she wasn't outright misanthropic or cruel. So, uh, yeah.

I never said the guy was cruel. Though I guess "takes great pleasure in pointing out flaws" is sort of a form of cruelty. Still, is that what you get out of that description? Because I was going for something more along the lines of Spider Jerusalem. Who I suppose wouldn't be caught dead in a SBURB game.

Well honestly I could have seen a character like that working, but I'm probably just too used to troll RP. Go ahead and remake the character if you wish.

Hmm. I'm having trouble thinking of a class/aspect combination. I was thinking I'd probably go with Page for my class, since I want to start out as a low-powered character who lives by his wits, and either Mind, Life, or Light for my aspect. Right now, my character concept is someone with the general attitude, personality and demeanor of Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks, who relies a lot on Indy Ploys, Batman Gambits and Xanatos Speed Chess. Basically, a thoroughly heroic Magnificent Bastard. I figure Mind makes sense for the whole strategic angle, Life makes sense for the flexibility angle, and Light makes sense due to the fact that a character like this really does rely quite a bit on luck. I'm having trouble narrowing it down, though.

EDIT: I'm thinking I'll go with Page of Mind and do away with the Dale Cooper schtick. He is pretty cool guy, but I don't think I'm gonna be able to hold back on the snark. That, and I'd rather not play a blatant ripoff of a TV character. I'll still play Good Guy Greg style, though. Writing up profile now.

Appearance: A clean-cut young fellow with a slightly husky build, Dale is fastidious about his personal appearance. He combs his blond hair back in a pompadour, and frames his sea green eyes with horn-rimmed spectacles. He dresses formally for his age; dress shirts, slacks, waistcoats and bracers are all regular components of his wardrobe.

Personality: Your name is DALE, and you are simply brimming with MOXIE. You live in a mountain manor with your GRANDDAD, and have long amused yourself with the collected works of RAYMOND CHANDLER and OSCAR WILDE. As a result, you speak in a jarring blend of CRUDE VERNACULAR and PASSIVE-AGGRESSIVE BARBS. You like to think of yourself as the height of HARDBOILED ARISTOCRATIC WIT, but most of your friends just think you're A BIT OF A SMARTASS.
