Is this thread about inspirational speeches, or is it about our responsibility towards the environment?
If it's about the former, you might want to re-write or expand the OP.
If it's about the latter, we need to change the thread's name.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur. It's the former. Sorry. Starting up conversations is not one of my strong points.
If Martin Luther King Jr. was still alive, I know he would never have stopped fighting for equality between black and white people. I would like to think that he did help create improvements. But...I would say that there's still room for improvement.
I bet King would have spoken out against the trope Scary Black Man. After all, isn't it better to judge someone by the content of his/her character rather than the colour of his/her skin?
Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee!I can't help noting that it is rather ironic to wonder if his speech, of all people, might be politically incorrect
If we disagree, that much, at least, we have in commonNot only that, but Values Dissonance can really work against what a person says.
That's the thing with inspirational speeches. They sound all well and good...until you start thinking about the implications and all that stuff. I think some people around here call it Glurge.
An interesting bit of irony to point out: Winston Churchill made speeches that everybody ignored before World War II, but once WWII started, he made speeches that everyone listened to! Go figure.
Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee!
Inspirational speeches are pretty interesting to listen to, aren't they?
For example, David Suzuki gave this sort of speech recently. It was about the environment and how this generation needs to do something before irreversible environment damage occurs in one decade or so. That's interesting and all, but it begs the question: what should we do about it? Suzuki didn't even answer that question.
Or...how about this speech? It might come off as politically incorrect, but I would say that it is Fair for Its Day.
