Agender is typically considered part of the nonbinary umbrella, and is thus not cis.

Well. At least knowing biologically born genders is useful for statistic keeping purposes on social healthcare records.

I say they are definitely useful. Now, what I would question is why they must be publicly available. As in, why should the guy over thecounter have to know what you were biologically born? If it was a doctor then, yeah, sure, but otherwise for basic identity cards and such they serve little purpose.

Identification? Knowing that someone has testes but not a penis can make identification of a corpse (for example) easier.

You know. If you need to orient your country's ID cards to making corpse ID easier, you as a government might be having tougher shit to solve than LGBT issues...

Corpse identification is very much a worst-case scenario but it's regrettably necessary sometimes. I can see the justification for having some sort of database with very limited access for cases such as that, as well as medical arrangements.

I'm pretty sure corpse identification comes firmly under medical stuff, which as previously mentioned has good reason to concern itself with your original hardware and modification logs.

Fair enough, it's just a very different sub-section and not what most people would initially think of.

Asian markets will soon be selling transsexual prawns!**

Scientists are giving “sex changes” to prawns so farmers can reap the economic benefits of producing faster growing and meatier males. Just a year after the procedure made it possible, Asian farmers have fully embraced this offbeat method to increase profits.

The procedure requires two main stages in order to create an all-male mob of giant freshwater prawns (Macrobrachium rosenbergii). It all starts with the androgenic gland, an organ unique to crustaceans that produces a hormone that regulates sexual differentiation and the production of male reproductive organs. The hormone is suppressed by injecting a molecule that silences the expression of the gene that codes for its production. This cutting-edge technique is called temporal gene silencing.

This procedure allows scientists to create “neo-females,” essentially prawns that are genetically male but with all the lady prawn bits needed to reproduce. These neo-females are then bred with normal males, which makes all of their offspring male.

The project was developed by a team of scientists at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel. The scientific research was completed and published last year, however Reuters has reported that this new technique is taking hold in the Asian food industry.

Professor Amir Sagi, who heads the research group, said workers can inject around 2,000 prawns a day by hand in Israel, where they are then shipped out to Vietnam, China and India. The prawns can release thousands of eggs each, so over several cycles, millions of male prawns can be produced – although only the injected generation will be affected from the gene silencing. It’s estimated that the development could help increase a farmer’s income by 60%.

“The advantage of this technology is that with using all male with that technology is that we do not have to use any chemicals nor any hormones and it is a non-GMO, saying that it is not genetically modifying the organism,” Sagi told Reuters in reference to the all-male generation that hatched.

What is the hormone suppressant if not a chemical or a hormone?

[up][up] Doesn't matter - the prawns that get the injections aren't the ones being sold in stores, their children are. So, technically, the producers are right, and really I should have made my post start with a different clickbaity line about gay prawns or something.

[up][up][up] It does when the claim is "we don't use chemicals or hormones". It wouldn't if the claim was "the prawns we sell aren't exposed to chemicals or hormones".

Teeheee. A typographical or some sort of other error in the Civil Register of my country allowed the first legal gay marriage between two women.

Nothing good lasts though, already they want to nullify it. Hopefully this will be the spark that brings it up to public discussion and osmething is finally decided...

[up] As pleasant as the news is, official may be to strong a term. These documents are only being issued in Shibuya and are more symbolic than anything else. I'm not sure if its the prefectures or the national Diet that makes these calls, but I don't think its one of the 23 special Wards which aren't even fully fledged towns (from what I understand the Tokyo Metropolitan Government still holds, at least nominally, some of the powers normal reserved for local governments and others that are held by the 23 special wards are only delegated by convenience rather than outright built into their structure)

It's an important milestone, regardless of how official, where it is. smile

Just having one ward willing to do this is a great step. (Although, I'm willing to bet Roppongi-ku won't be too far behind Shibuya-ku. Because the usual reasons. tongue)

So Canada's Prime Minister was photographed last year (while he was just the leader of the Liberal party) with Scott Brison (a long time MP and newly appointed President of the Treasury Broad and probably the most powerful LGBT politician in Canadian federal politics), his husband and their two daughters. LGBT activists have praised this, saying that few other countries would have leaders willing to be so open about this kind of thing.

http://thechronicleherald.ca/novascotia/1321591-photo-of-brison-family-and-trudeau-catches-attention-online

I assume that some leaders in Europe and a few Democratic leaders in the US would also being willing to do this, but I agree with Brison that it will be best when this sort of photo is just seen as a perfectly normal photo op.

Yeah that's kinda weird that that's considered brave. Over here it would be weird for someone to celebrate that, but in fairness Iceland, Belgium and Luxenbourg have all had (or currently still have) openly gay heads of state (the only countries to do so in the modern world), in the UK specifically and Scotland more specifically the leaders of both the Scottish Green Party (legally actually a separate party to the Green Party of England and Wales) and the Scottish Conservative Party (the Scottish branch of the Conservative Party) are openly bisexual and gay respectively.

Hell the UK's First Minister and Lord President of the Council (so effective second in command of the goverment, literally the person who's in charge if the P Ms away) for 2009-2010 (and a ton of other important things before that) had been out since he was unofficially outed by the BBC in 1998.

Yeah gay rights and public acceptance seem to come in weird bounds, you see action and then nothing for a long time.

Take for example the first decriminalisation of homosexuality in Europe and it's spread. See if you can guess (without looking it up) what country was the first to decriminalise sodomy, what other countries it spread to and how it did so.
