So, Red Data Girl. It's the story of an introverted girl who breaks electronic devices she touches and a jerkass guy who was forced by his father to serve her.

Of course, the story's not that simple. MAL has a bit more to say on the premise, if you'd like more details.

Three episodes in and the plot seems to be settling in. Very interested in this school that is presumably for kids with supernatural abilities.

Just watched the first three episodes.

It's got pretty high levels of all your standard Shoujo tropes, but the production quality is very solid, so I'll probably keep up with this.

Oh god, this is absolutely the worst series to use the Three Episode Test on. If you survived that long, though, you'll enjoy the rest for sure.

[up] No, that would be Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon.

[up][up]

I have an aversion to stream-quality, especially for a series which appears to sell itself primarily on art like this one does.

The issue is that the first three episodes feel like Twenty Minutes with Jerks. Thankfully, things do an about-face in episode four.

Episode 4: Character introductions for the Souda siblings and their dead brother, vaguely evil schoolmates, supernatural powers and stuff.

Also "homunculi" isn't probably the most appropriate translation for shikigami.

Well. Episode Seven proves that if you aren't watching this show, you probably should be. The atmosphere RDG has managed to cultivate is easily the best this cour, and the shift in focus to the broader cast gives the protags room for character development without being overbearing like it was in the first three episodes. I'll allow that there's still room for this show to shoot itself in the foot, but this upward trend feels sustainable.

Episode 5:

  • Masumi bitchslapping Takayanagi again and again was hilarious.
  • Romantic tension! Between Yukimasa and Sagara :P
  • Yukimasa's apparently really handsome.
  • Suddenly, the end of the world. Things just got interesting.

Episode 6: Okay, things really did get interesting. Wonder why didn't start off with this.

  • Drunk Izumiko is hilarious. And can keep Masumi company.
  • There's a showdown of sorts going on, complete with judges. Hmm. Mayura is testing Miyuki, to test her abilities and possibly allegiance and probably to get Izumiko to join her team.
  • I want to know what this "world heritage collection" is. I suppose Himegami is already part of that, whatever it is.

It's not really a secret, considering World Heritage Sites actually exist. The difference is that in real life, a person can't be considered one.

[up] That was the first thing that came to mind, but I thought it had a different meaning in-universe. 'Cause, like you said, people aren't usually included.

Well, if people in our world had magic spiritual powers of cultural significance, maybe they'd be put up for consideration too [lol].

This is a terrible question that can receive nothing but subjective answers, but...just how good does this get? I saw the first two episodes shortly after they premiered, was completely bored, and stopped watching. I need a big push before I bother watching the "still tedious" third episode to get to the "better" fourth episode and beyond.

[up] It gets better with each episode, it really does. I'd recommend watching to the fourth, at least. If you don't like the characters introduced in the fourth much better than anybody but the main couple in the first three, I'm guessing it's probably not worth continuing.

[up][up] The third episode is less tedious than the first two, in part because it's a transition to the next, better story arc.

It really does get better, don't worry. I was about to stop watching this too earlier on, but succeeding episodes convinced me otherwise. Watched until ep 9 now, I don't care if it's just a Nico Nico stream, I get the 720p episodes afterwards anyway...

I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.

@Ruise: I initially gave up after not even half an episode. Came back and brute forced it, now I find the rest OK.

Episode 7: It's kinda... I understand it but at the same time I don't. I dunno. It was sort of hard to pay attention.

Well, the later you watch, the more exciting it gets. I think this is like what Gunnerkrigg Court would've been if it's not as long, based on Japanese mythos and stuff.

Same as usual.... Wing it.

Six: The Souda household is super American, barbeques and all. Alcoholism and pretty, glowy lights....And then crap about the judges, Mayura shows her true colors, and Tengu appear. This show is really exciting and good, but I just wish it wouldn't be so mysterious about some things!

Seven: What. The hell. Souda family. Masumi is calling Miyuki Shinkou too now?

Tabi...sad Oh, god. Poor Manatsu.

WOW. What a Wham Episode. It looks like Manatsu doesn't understand death thanks to being able to see Masumi all the time. Wow.

Eight: Masumi was a dragon? I hope he comes back. So Wamiya is communicating with Sagara and helping him out...

Aaaand, I am all caught up! Suzuhara sure learned those hand seals fast. Himegami can seemingly come out at any time now though! And she stuck around for a long time! And she's kind of out there. She's crazy. Damn, this was informative.

Episode 8: Masumi turned out to be the dream of one head of a nine-headed dragon. That is awesome.

Miyuki's also using Wamiya's powers.

Now please explain the judges and world heritage stuff before I lose interest
