I'm done but I'm short of the word count. Fuck.

[up] Did you try expanding your contractions?

[up] I think I'm going to try adding in more descriptions first. Expanding my contractions might make it feel clunky.

I hope I can finish this by the deadline...

Finally managed to finish my first draft. I don't think it needs too many tweaks now, but I'm not really happy with how the ending played out...

Hm hypothetical question, but say I'm under the word count for my entry. I'd get some points deducted from mechanics, right?

What do you mean, "there are only four days left"? T-T

(Argh, I really hope that I manage to sit down and work with the first draft that I have... >_<)

Can I join in this contest.

All I have to do is keep the first sentence and the last sentence the same? I think I can do that. This would be my very first contest, ever.

Or is it too late?

You can still join. Just keep in mind that the deadline is on Friday.

You have to use the opening and closing sentences that are given in the first post of this thread (you can find them under the heading "Theme").

So wait, is it the norm to say you submitted the work? Because if so, I sent it too.

The deadline is the 24th, though, correct?

All right. At this point I'm just editing for style, but that might take a couple days.

That was surprisingly expeditious.

Can I continue quibbling with the last sentence?

That it starts with an and really bothers me and may cause me to completely rewrite my ending. I mean seriously.

Did we ever have a decision from all of the judges on the last sentence? Of the judges listed on the first page, I'm only aware of Nocturna having given a response (in approval, I believe).

Wait what is getting approved? Taking the "and" out of the final sentence?

What I suggested, I believe, was '... the possibility allowing minor changes to the required sentences — "and now" to "so now", for example — and to the ending sentence in particular'.

The original post.

Personally, I would prefer everyone to go with the same sentences because that was the point of the contest. However, considering how close it is to the deadline with some people apparently unable to work the original closing sentence into their story, I'll exercise some leniency.

At the same time, though, I think there should be some incentive to use the original sentences, as they're more difficult to incorporate. To tell you the truth, the last sentence is actually a large part of the reason why I decided to judge instead of enter. So I will probably do some very light point deduction if you change it, but keep in mind it will be so minor that it shouldn't affect your chances of winning; like maybe half a point if it's just something like removing the "and" or changing it to "so" or something minor like that. You'll get more points out of me in the long run if you can smoothly incorporate a modification of the closer than if you use the original one awkwardly.

Unless I'm completely outspoken here, but I personally think this is the most reasonable course of action.
