I need help

I made a character, and I'm trying to remember what Mental Skills are.

Far as I understand, mental skills are mainly debuffings and status afflictions. So the -nda family and things like pulinpa.

@Anura - How do social links form exactly? Can it come from a mutual dislike, or one-side trusting and the other side viewing as a valued toy?

No. Mental skills are an import from Devil Summoner and the original Megami Tensei. It's an element in it's own right, with the spells Psy, Psyla, Psydyne, Mapsy, etc.

As for Social Links, I think they come from mutual understanding. The actual feelings involved don't matter as much, so dislike can be involved, but trickery can't, really.

Well, in P4 Golden you can S. Link with one of the antagonists (both before and after you find out they're faking being a good guy) so I'm not sure deceit can be entirely ruled out. If you turn against them afterwards then their Link breaks and changes into another one.

S. Linking is kinda one-sided in general considering it's usually the silent protag learning more about other people.

Yeah, but in those cases he's increasing the power of his wild card. These ones don't involve the wild card so they have different rules. As for Adachi... well, he was possessed by a god of deceit.

Well, would it be possible, say, to be at different levels of the same link? Example: X is Chariot and Y is Strength. X is at level 6 with Strength because they know a lot about Y, while Y is at level 3 with Chariot because X doesn't open up as much?

Or would that be over-complicating matters? It's already a bit more complicated than the games cause all the links aren't being done by one person.

It does make sense, but it makes things harder to keep track of. Not to mention that they'd both have to be at the required level to actually benefit from the link, so in the above case, the link would be level 3 for practical purposes anyway (Fusion Spell available, but not Grafting).

Hm, so are people going to pair up to S. Link (while still developing relationships with the others) or will it be possible to S. Link with more than one person? I'm mainly asking because the latter choice could get repetitive, while the former would limit fusion possibilities.

Nah, it's good to not have to be the only creative one around here! And I sleep far too late anyway.

I'm going with the latter. There's no need for repetition, though. Links will form from connections anyway, regardless of how they play out, so each one should be different. There's also no need for a given link to be two-way only; Triangle Fusions are a thing, after all. A group of three or more could level up their links to each other together.

I suppose social links would go to characters would go to characters who get the most interaction with one another.

Not really. Ideally, every character should have a social link with every other character. I know that that's not likely to happen, but the possibility is there.

But each person would only have to remember their own; the master list is my responsibility as GM.

Okay-doke. I'm going to imagine it'll mostly be like P3's 'Maya' but with a group rather than 1-on-1.

While we're talking game mechanics, I recall it being mentioned that stats and such were going to be kept vague to prevent too much confusion. I'm guessing that counts for HP/SP too? And will we all be 'leveling up' at the same points so that nobody falls behind in learning new spells?

I'm basically going to refer to the anime as my primary source on things like that. SP is essentially non-existent and HP is fairly abstract. Yeah, everyone "levels up" at regular intervals, which translates to either a new ability or an upgrade to an existing one. I think after every mission should work. Although in my case it'll be roughly every "story" mission, since I have fewer abilities to learn.

Cool. I think that's most of the inquiries I had sorted except for the fighting system. Will we all fight in one big group, split up into smaller groups of 4 or so, or mix it up depending on what enemy we're facing?

Also their way of travelling between sites is reminding me of a similar sequence from Digimon: The Movie

Mix it up. We all know how easy it is to get lost on Tropes, so the trainwreck in this mission will be everyone getting accidentally split up, resulting in Bug having to try and keep track of several groups using tracking abilities and try to reunite them. It'll get easier when he discovers that his type of Persona can telepathically communicate with other Personas, but that'll take a while...

One question. Are you using just the Anime as a source? Or other games. I ask because Persona's tend to differ wildly from game to game.

I'm only referring to the anime as far as fights go. Personas themselves are being interpreted very loosely here; if they can change between games, they can be as different here as you want.

So it would be okay to use weapons held by our Persona's despite it not being a skill? Like a normal attack?

I'll say no. You could use it for a more creative version of one of your existing skills (flaming sword?), though.
